Sidekick Multi-Tool, Spring-Action Pliers and Saw, Stainless

This is the thing you bring everywhere for any job. You wouldn't believe the amount of times I needed pliers to reach something I couldn't, how much I wished I had a screw driver on me, a knife that people won't give me looks for, something able to clip it to my pants, and needing a bottle opener. I will openly thank Reysu for showing me this. Its absolutely expensive, but you get three knifes, everything I listed up above, a file, and ruler with this thing. It fits nicely in my pocket, I don't feel worried someone will have a problem with it because I just say its a multi tool. Which makes me feel more at ease that its not a problem if questioned about it. Haven't had any issues cutting anything with the knifes. Its very pricey, but worth it. I think they have a variant that comes with scissors? I wish I had that version. Only issue I have, is its very hard to get the screw bits out. The file/ruler had a nub to press onto to bring that out.

Short version: met all my expectations. nice knife. very easy to open, functional blades. screwdrivers get the job done, although not great. Pliers are handy and strong. Long version: I looked around a little bit before buying this about 6 months ago. A couple of things I was looking for were: 1-easy to open knife, 2- quality made, 3- saw, pliers, and basic screwdrivers, 4- belt clip or lanyard ring... In fact it all started like this. About 15 years ago a friend of my father's gave him a Leatherman supertool as a gift. Since that day, it is his togo tool where ever he goes and at home too. I grew up with it. I don't remember an occasion where there was something to be fixed and he didn't pull out his leatherman first. His 1974 CJ-5 is broken, and he pulls it out... He needs to change the faucet and he pulls it out... That is the first tool he reaches for... Most of the time the only tool.. The knife lasted amazingly, the pliers are still functioning great. I grew up with it. I am 30 now, he is 60. Now, years later... fed up with cheap chinese made stuff... I was looking for buying to buy myself a multitool to take with me on outdoor trips. Something that I can rely on when I need it. that is simple, durable, and gets the job done. My needs were clear. So where did I look first? Of course Leatherman. That is the tool my father uses. It had to be good. I looked at the current models and found out that this one has everything I need and the price is reasonable. So, I went for it. After using it for 6 months, I must say that I am satisfied. My only concern is that while the body looks great, it feels (I don't want to say this) cheap(er). I guess that is how everything feels nowadays, compared to what we had 15 years ago. Engineers are trying to trim off every ounce. I have no doubt that it will last for a long time. Still, it hasn't got the feeling of the Leatherman I grew up with. Here are a few things I like/dislike about the tool: * The blade is on the outside. Considering the fact that the knife is what I use most, this is a huge plus. why would I have to unfold the entire thing everytime? and you can open it single handedly. The same goes for the saw. * I made a little paracord lanyard and tied it to the ring. I keep it there all the time. Once, I needed to tie up something and it was there for me, hanging from my knife. It also looks really nice hanging out of the leather carrying pouch. * The ruler is mostly useless. * The screwdrivers are a little too big for fine jobs. Normally, I carry a bike multitool with good screwdrivers, allen keys, and torque keys. So, it is not a big issue for me. If you are looking for basic functionality you cannot go wrong with this one. If you are looking for something a little more advanced, check out the other models. cheers.

Has spring loaded pliers which I find to be really useful. The wire cutters however don't overlap like you would see on most pliers. They kind of just squish smaller gauge wires instead of cutting them. Fine for me, as I don't cut wires too often. The screwdrivers, especially that kind of 2d phillips head, are surprisingly really good for a multitool. This also has a saw, a file that won't work on your nails (seriously don't try it), a small serrated knife and an old school can opener. The blade is really big and pretty sharp. Well, I live in an area where pocket knives are generally illegal or at least frowned upon so I don't have much experience. This is a lot less threatening, especially because I don't need a dedicated pocket knife. For all practical purposes I can get by using the small pen knife on the Victorinox Classic but I won't deny that this blade has come in handy. The other day, I used it to cut the top off a frozen Gogurt. :D The blade locks in place, it's ground on both sides and it's straight edge all throughout. I bought this as a gift for my dad, while I was gifted a Wingman also by Leatherman. I'm a little jealous because his came with this nice leather pouch and a solid carabiner that has a bottle opener. The pouch is just a pouch with lanyard holes. Not meant for belts. I wanted the wingman because of the scissors but they're overrated. I would definitely choose this over the wingman because of the carabiner and the straight blade. It is important to note that this is a budget tool, but it's really really well constructed. There isn't any play on any of the tools, and though not all of the tools have a lock, they will stay in place as you use them. Look hard at the tools included in this thing, and decide whether you can get by or you would benefit from a higher end Leatherman tool. I would definitely buy Leatherman products again if their higher end tools are anything like this.

After years of not carrying a pocket knife, I decided that it was time to carry again, but I was looking for more than just a blade. I wanted it to do everything. After talking to several friends who are avid leatherman users I decided that it was time to get one. My needs were as follows: ability to open main blade with one hand, not too big to go into a pocket, light enough to carry but not so light that it feels like a toy, good wire cutters, good saw, basic screw drivers. After doing extensive research on every leatherman made, as well as gerbers and several knock offs, I decided to give this one a try. I was not disappointed. This is a great little device. It feels great, the weight is perfect, and has almost all of the tools that I need. I liked the Sidekick so much that I also bought a Wingman (similar product but with scissors instead of a saw). There are only two things that I don't like about the product: The blade does not hold an edge very well I broke one of the flat heads trying to use it as a pry bar (not really how it is meant to be used). To be fair leatherman would fix or replace it for free, but I have not sent it in yet. I now use the wingman as my EDC because I get more use out of the scissors than the saw, but this one is in our junk drawer and is used at least weekly. Is it as well made as a surge or wave? Well no, but it is also 1/3 the price and 2/3 the size. For a light duty multitool that you can put in your pocket, either the sidekick or the wingman is a great choice. One last note: Leatherman should design a make your own multitool. Flat price for the empty shell, then varying prices for tools. I don't need a bottle opener so it would be great to be able to replace it with something else (like the package opener found on the wingman). If I could replace this blade for the one that comes with the TTI and get rid of the bottle opener, I would gladly pay $100. Until then, this is the best out there.

**UPDATED 2025 - UPDATE AT BOTTOM** At this price point, there are three leathermans to choose from: the Sidekick, the Wingman, and the Skeletool. The Sidekick and Wingman are nearly identical, the main difference being that the Sidekick has a saw, and the Wingman has a pair of scissors. The Skeletool is much lighter and slimmer, has a carabiner, and doesn't have the same number of tools as the Wingman/Sidekick. The Rev is lower cost, but the pliers aren't spring loaded, which greatly limits the functionality in my opinion. The picture is of my Sidekick after 2.5 years of near constant use. I have dropped this thing in both fresh and salt water while fishing (it is the PERFECT knife for fishing), use it around the house for any sort of project, light construction, assembly of furniture, etc. If someone asks for a pocket knife for a gift, get them this instead. Multitools are just so much more useful than normal folding knives. And Leatherman is really the best of the best at the $50-$60. In conclusion, buy this--or the Wingman. Either one with suit you well. Everyone I know who does any work with their hands has one of these, and no one I know has ever regretted buying one. UPDATE 2025 - it is now May 2025, six years after I wrote the original review for my Wingman--two kids and a global pandemic later. I still have the same Wingman, and I still use it all the time. It's just as good as it was six years ago when I wrote the above review, and just as good as it was when I bought it 8.5 years ago. I also use my Rev fairly often, and I still don't really like it--mainly because the thumb stud/hole in the knife blade is in the wrong place, which makes it awkward to open with one hand. I keep the Rev where I open packages and that sort of thing, but I never take it with me anywhere. Full disclosure, I don't work with my hands, and mostly use the Wingman for around the house stuff and fishing/outdoors stuff. But I got a Wingman for a good friend of mine (laser engraved with his initials--look into it, it's not too expensive) who is a professional carpenter/home builder. It was his first Leatherman, which surprised me. Anyway, about a year after I got it for him, he told me that it is now basically the only knife he ever uses at work, and he uses it every day. I really can't say enough good things about these. I would probably recommend you stick with the more basic versions, because they have everything you need in a small package. Leatherman makes some like $200 deals that are impressive, but unless you're in a really specialized industry, you probably don't need it. If fact, the tools I use most, by far, are (in order) (1) the knife, (2) the pliers, and (3) the screwdriver. Accordingly, I'd probably be able to do 95% of what I do with the Sidekick with the Skeleton, which is smaller and lighter (and presents a bit more like a traditional pocket knife). I lost my Skeletool in a field years ago and have wanted to get a new one, but I can't really justify it because my Sidekick is still going so strong after all these years. But if you're looking for something simple and light, I'd strongly recommend taking a look at the Skeletool first. I know there are way, way cheaper options out there with multi tools, but I promise you, if you buy one of these, you won't regret it.

This has been an almost E.D.C. tool, I say almost because I took it out of my rotation a few times only to find myself going back to it after I discovered I needed it and didn't have it. I do not use it everyday, generally I use the correct tool for the job/task at hand so a multi-tool has limited function in my life. I do however love the saw and it works very excellently, being an expierenced hiker, camper, and hunter I am in the forest a ton, and it seems the knife is just a little to thin/small/weak for most bushcrafting especially when processing wood, the saw however is very aggressive and useful fitting into all but the most impossible of spaces. Pliers, ehh, useful on occasion in the real world but as of yet have served zero purpose in nature although I could see them being handy for certian applications that I have yet to require. Now that I have had these for some time I will compare them versus the much smaller Victorionox Huntsman I just ordered and should recieve next week which has everything the Leatherman does except a Phillips head driver and Pliers, but has a couple features the Leatherman does not. Look for my review on the Swiss Army Knife soon, and I will aslo update this one if I discover any more or less usefullness of this package after several excursions using the new Swiss Army Knife. The serrated blade has not been used on this knife as I NEVER look for them as a positive selling point, I consider serrations as a minus or useless feature, a properly sharpened blade will cut as effeciently and is not wasted space in prime real estate. The file on the tool is also useless, however the pocket clip and profile of the tool is very nice. The spring action of the pliers is a big plus, as is the included carabiner. The leather pouch was an interesting touch that is overall not a good way to store the tool but has since joined my survival kit along with some 2' sections of surgical tubing to serve as a survival sling-shot. Overall I am decently happy, it is made in AMERICA, and is of very sturdy build quality. Compared to the other knives of it's class in my collection I would give it a real rating 0f 7.5/10

My first Leatherman, and I love it. I didn't think that I would use it as much as I do now, but after I got it, I found myself finding it very handy a lot of the time. The overall quality is great, the knifes, saw, and the file are sharp and hold and edge well, tools lock open solidly, pliers spring open nicely, and you can really crank on the pliers with very little give at all in whole unit, and without hurting your hands. One of my favorite things is you can unfold only one side of pliers and use a tool like the screwdriver and use the other side basically a longer handle that is quite sturdy, compared to opening a tool and then folding the halves back up. Only thing I don't like so much is that the tools are a little hard to open with your fingernails, and a slight side to side play in the pliers of a 1/16" at most. The sheath it comes with is ok, but the tool also has a pocket clip, and a lanyard/carabineer loop, of which I use the most and doesn't bend after yanking on it multiple times out of a backpack pocket, connected with the nice carabineer included in the box. Good value for money, and would recommend for someone that likes to be prepared more than the average person, or who needs a handy Sidekick! Sorry for the dad joke, ha!

Fantastic, good-quality multi-purpose tool that's easy to carry and use. The main cutting blade is accessible without opening the pliers - this was my biggest reason for purchase. The overall size is quite reasonable, so I can keep a wallet in the same pocket as the tool without difficulty. It's stood up to a couple years of daily use with hardly a scratch, though the blade will dull eventually.

size not too bulky

Súper contento, excelente calidad y precio, totalmente recomendado, la navaja tiene bastante filo y los alicates son muy útiles. El único problema es que en la descripción dice que debe de venir con una funda de piel (si buscas en YouTube veras reseñas en las que enseñan esta funda, que por cierto es muy bonita), pero sin embargo llego con una funda de nylon, que aunque es de buena calidad y se ve muy resistente, no es igual de atractiva y bonita que la de piel. A pesar de esto no le pongo una calificación baja, porque la calidad de la herramienta en sì es excelente.

In my opinion this is the best bang for your buck. My favourite things about this tool are the pocket clip and the knives being accessible with the pliers closed. These two features alone are worth the purchase. Also Leatherman uses the same quality metal on this product as some of their higher ticketed items. This is the second sidekick I’ve owned. The first I passed on to a friend. If I had an extra $70 to spend on a multi tool I would still buy this one. Only complaint is the Philips screwdriver is a little lame.
