The #1 New York Times Bestseller Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age fifteen, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining. This was supposed to be a very different book. Five years ago, Jessica Simpson was approached to write a motivational guide to living your best life. She walked away from the offer, and nobody understood why. The truth is that she didn’t want to lie. Jessica couldn’t be authentic with her readers if she wasn’t fully honest with herself first. Now, America’s Sweetheart, preacher’s daughter, pop phenomenon, reality tv pioneer, and the billion-dollar fashion mogul invites readers on a remarkable journey, examining a life that blessed her with the compassion to help others but also burdened her with an almost crippling need to please. Open Book is Jessica Simpson using her voice, heart, soul, and humor to share things she’s never shared before. First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about , Jessica is doing the talking. Her book shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture cliché’s — “chicken or fish,” “Daisy Duke,” "football jinx," “mom jeans,” “sexual napalm…” and more. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers. Review: Real, Relatable and Entertaining ... FIVE STARS***** - Real, Relatable and Entertaining ... FIVE STARS***** Whenever a celebrity comes out with a book about their life you wonder how much are they really going to share. These are people that live off their public persona, so they have to be very carful at how much and what kind of stuff they can divulge from their personal life, because those details can very well make or break their career. That's why I loved this book so much because Jessica Simpson is so brave, so honest, and so bold telling her story. She shares it all, and she makes her fans/readers part of the story. She wrote it in a way that it feels as if we are all visiting, and going back to all those moments in her life right along with her as she tells her story. The writing style is very candid, and sincere; really felt like she was putting her whole heart into this book. I was a teenager growing up when Newlyweds was on; I was obsessed with that whole Britney, Christina Aguilera, 98 Degrees, N'Sync Era. Then when Jessica and Nick's show aired OMG, they became the it couple of the 2000's. I remember wanting to be just like Jessica, even in her ditzy blond moments, she was so funny and so happy and highly inspirational. She had it all, beautiful home, gorgeous clothes and handbags, and the most romantic and handsome husband of all times. So I made it a point to follow her career. I watched the show, all her movies, any TV specials, and I would sing her sons (badly), I also always loved and tried to imitate her fashion style. To read this book was like coming full circle into learning about the idol I once followed. Now I'm older and a mother myself, so I wanted to read the truth about her life, her struggles. We all know what has been said about Jessica Simpson in the TV and the magazines but I wanted to learn her story from her own words, and let me tell you she did not disappoint. The truth is she is just like any woman, any mother, any daughter, any friend. Her problems and struggles are mostly the same as any of ours are, the only difference is that she has paparazzi following her, and sharing her every moment in pictures and that perhaps she has way better and way nicer clothes and accessories than most of us. But she too had to fight for her marriage, and fight about money, and deal with toxic relationships, and self loathe and insecurities. Say what you want about Jessica Simpson but she really is an Open Book. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does, and just like I was when I was a teenager, I continue to be inspired by her. This book was super entertaining, inspiring and even a little heartbreaking. No matter what happens in her life, or what people say about her, I am sure that Jessica Simpson will continue to sing, thrive, and will always encourage and motivate others to be the best version of themselves. Truly fantastic book. Review: Fun book - Good book!! I've always loved Jessica's fun loving ways.. turns out now she was just drunk all the time lol

Insightful
I don’t think I have ever read a biography - or memoir - before. On a whim I decided to buy a few and Jessica’s was one of the first. I learned so many things I never knew, and I have a newfound respect for her. I saw a comment on Facebook where someone claimed the book was “right up your alley” if you liked hearing someone brag about their wealth and not give anything to charity. I can honestly say that I don’t believe that person actually read the book and is one of many who just like to hold a grudge against others. After reading this book, I am actually outraged on Jessica’s behalf for that lame, hateful and incorrect “review”. Jessica starts off the book at what seems to be her lowest point and doesn’t pull any punches in telling her story. She doesn’t spin things to put the best light on her and her actions. She outright owns all of her ups and downs. That is what won me over immediately. “Open Book” takes you on her journey of fame, disappointments, first love, heartbreak, struggles, inner demons, success, and finding everlasting friendships and that once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. I felt her pain and her happiness. I am 40-years-old and this book gave me hope that life can still be what you want even after your world comes crashing down.

What a great woman and a wonderful mother!
There's so many things I want to write about this book but I'll sum it up, Jessica grew up in a devout Christian family, daughter of a pastor and a very capable and talented woman, Jessica signed her first contract at 14 yrs old as a gospel singer, she was very insecure about her body especially her breast, she was a well endowed girl and nobody let her forget it, singing in church she had to cover up with vest or something like that, which is stupid but anyway, I got a little angry at Jessica's parents, at times I felt like she was their cash cow and put a huge amount of pressure on a young girl, when nick and Jessica got married her dad sulked the whole time ,like crap, there goes my cash cow but as we all know they divorced after 3 yrs of marriage, after her divorce she acted the same way as any young girl would....she dated ,she saw what was out there. She got her heart broken a few times, one of her boyfriends did like that she drank all the time but he also jerked her around emotionally, then she started dating Tony Romo and on their first date guess who was with them, yep, her parents! I feel like they smothered her , she met her husband Eric by chance, he supposed to be set up with one of her friends but the friend couldn't make it so Jessica and eric hit it off, they were about to welcome their first child into the world very soon when Papa Joe decided he needed some attention and told her he was leaving her mother, I mean, come on Joe, you could've waited ,I found him to be incredibly selfish and a little shady. When she finally had baby Maxwell her dad shows up to her home, not to see the baby but to talk about his problems, her sweet husband told him that Jessica doesn't have anymore energy to give right now. Now back to the pressure, she had been distraught over John Mayer dumping her the day she was singing at a tribute for dolly Parton, she started drinking pretty early that day and when it was time to sing 9 to five she couldn't remember the words, she looked over at her parents asking each other what they're gonna do if this effected her career because after all she was the family meal ticket , this book was well written, easy to read, I laughed a few times at some of the situations she had gotten herself into, but the best thing about her is remaining humble and giving back to those less fortunate, Jessica has a heart of gold and deserves all the success that she has had.

Shockingly Reflective and Beautiful
I don’t know what I was expecting from this book. Maybe something lighter? Something comprised of more “fluff?” I’ve never been more pleased to be SO WRONG. Jessica Simpson is a kind, thoughtful, and loving human being and that shines through in this book. She is also a forgiving human being and there is a lot in this book worth sharing. Bubbly and as adorable as she may be, this woman has been through the wringer. How she came out on the other side of some of these things without being bitter; how she managed to hang on to hope; is a testament to how beautifully strong her faith is. I enjoyed reading about her trials and tribulations - especially with men. I hate that she went through some of what she went through, but having been in similar situations myself, I appreciated her rawness and her unflinching introspection on how she contributed to these unhealthy relationships with men. She really is “just like the rest of us.” (Well...richer and prettier versions of us, but she’s so sweet, you can’t hate her for it!) The most surprising aspect of this book, however, was what I personally gained from reading it. I was NOT expecting to have a pop and country star’s bio give me cause to re-examine my faith and my relationship with God. Reading this book opened something in my heart, brought me to tears, and left me feeling moved to pray more, to pray harder, and to pray for different things; to pray from a grateful heart rather than a worried one; to find JOY in Christ rather than guilt. And the funny thing is, that even if you aren’t religious, her book is STILL valuable. Her thoughts on her experiences with tragedy, unhealthy romantic relationships, family, sexism, body image, anxiety and substance abuse are ALL valuable and interesting to read. I will admit that I’ve always liked Jessica Simpson. I always felt she was the overlooked underdog of the “blond pop singer” era. And I’m a “cheer on the under dog” kind of gal! But after reading this book, I’m a fan for life!

A genuinely good read, recommend.
I became acquainted with Jessica shoe shopping at Macys. Being a bit older than she, all I really knew about her is what I saw in the magazine's at the time she was tabloid fodder. I wasn't familiar with her music or movies. I thought she was a beautiful girl though who sold cute fashionable shoes and a clothing line that was priced reasonably, quality made, and was a respectable brand to wear during a label conscious time of my life. Through time to the present I began to notice pictures of her with Eric and the kids and always thought they looked like such a happy family and that Jessica herself appeared to be a kind, relatable and fun loving girl. It was because of this that I guess you can say I became a fan of hers and bought this book. I thought the book was fabulous and I couldn't put it down. I really felt for Jessica and the things she went through. I also felt the book could give me strength to walk through fear as she would say, as she intended it to for her readers. Thank you Jessica for sharing your story. I really enjoyed it. It was beautifully written. I'm so so happy for you, and glad your dreams came true as you certainly deserve it. I can't help but comment on the guys you loved though before I end this review. Nick wasn't able to deal with you growing to be the strong women you are. Personally, I think he was jealous of you. I can totally see the attraction to Johnny but glad you stayed away. John Mayer is a flat out idiot player, but you know that now! You hit the jackpot with Eric. God bless to you and your family. I hope we hear more from you in the years ahead.

Such an open, down-to-earth, honest account of her life
I'm not always huge on celeb memoirs or biographies generally because they are repetitive or seem to be other-worldly/outside of a typical person's life. This one, however, I am enthralled. Maybe I identify with her. Maybe I feel I completely relate even if our demographics are different. Either way, Jessica Simpson is who she is - honest, unashamed, imperfect, and relatable. She is telling her story, linking our experiences to her own troubled ones without being preachy, and she tells it like it is. I love this. I'm not done with the book yet but I have not once found something redundant (except, ok fine, one description of Nick Lachey). I want to see what happens next. She is respectful while being truthful to those involved in her life story. The cover pages show all the other reviews from professional critics and they are spot on. This book is worth it.

Self-aggrandizing regurgitation of what we already knew from the tabloids
Do I really need to say more than the headline? It's hard to believe that she wrote all of this, and if she did, there is really no substance here, which is shocking to me. There were some interesting facts about decisions she made, and you can kind of see in hindsight where her life was going as she made certain decisions. But there wasn't enough about her relationship with her dad, and what she does say about it doesn't give anyone any real picture of what was there. A lot of covering over transgressions, and feigning forgiveness for things she doesn't really mention. I wish there was more about her relationship with Nick, but the way she writes their "love story" it was as if it was doomed from the start (and in the fact that he never had her families support certainly makes this true!). But it's as if she never really wished she married him - her rising career that just made him jealous? I suppose it's plausible- I'd read his biography to compare for sure! The book doesn't really feel deep or meaningful and I'm so saddened by that - I actually expected more. One thing is for sure I feel deeply for those who don't know the truth about what happens when a person dies. As you can see from her own story, the lies her church has told her have chained her to a deep sadness she can't seem to move on from. It's one thing to grieve and it's another to never move on- she doesn't seem to celebrate Sarah's life, but more be held down by her memory. It's a recurring thought throughout the book. But perhaps the most disappointing part of the whole book, is her blanket forgiveness of all without any details like one might expect from a "Open Book" biography. I already knew her story from following her in the tabloids since I was a teen - I really learned nothing new or of any significance.

Great book
I really like Jessica Simpson, I love her song “I wanna love you forever” and used to watch newlyweds all the time back when it was on MTV, so when I knew she had a book coming out I just had to buy it. This is a great autobiography that details so much of Jessica’s life, I think she shows us her true, raw emotions and draws you into her story. It is funny at times and sad at times. It is a book that I was unable to put it down and I was sad when I had finished it, just because I wanted to keep going. I highly recommended this book if you are a fan of Jessica Simpson. The only criticism I have is that the book does not have any photographs in it.

Great read.
The book is well written. Made me feel nostalgic when Jessica took us back to the early 2000s and the beginning of her career. Overall I enjoyed reading it.

Very inspiring
I was surprised at how well Jessica writes, how open she is, and how interesting her life story is. I couldn't put the book down. I found it very inspiring how she overcame childhood sexual abuse, body issues, and self-esteem issues which resulted in some very unhealthy relationships and her abuse of substances to numb the pain. It is a story of emotional courage and love - of God, her family and friends and ultimately of herself. I wish I had been able to read this when I was young. What a help and support It would have been.
