Is the door able to be shut after installing?

In most standard doorways the door can be closed with the bar installed. The brackets are 2-1/4" wide, you can verify that you have enough space for the bar. I hope it helps.

What is the weight limit of the kids bar and rings?

It’s up to 220 pounds. I needed to know that too as my niece is 175

My kid loves this, but swings very high/fast and has hit the doorframe a few times. any ideas on how to keep the straps centered / cushion door frame

My husband suggests putting automotive heavy duty nylon tiewraps around the bar where the straps sit -- where you don't want them to slide sideways. Tiewraps can be purchased at an automotive supply store or even possibly Walmart.

what are the dimensions of the mounting bracket?

The mounting brackets themselves are 2"x2" square and the the bar can be mounted anywhere from 24" to 36" apart although we noticed that the farther apart they are the more the bar will bow in the middle.
