PIC Mosquito Repellent Coils (4 Pack)

Let's start off with price. Pic and Coghlan's are less than 50 cents a coil while the Off brand is nearly a dollar more per coil. Off also doesn't seem to come in large quantities which could help their overall price per unit. Pic is the big winner here.How about the scent you ask? Well Pic and Coghlan's smell just like a regular mosquito coil. The Off brand smells very nice if you purchase the scented version. I really don't think the mosquitos care. Off is the winner on scent.What about the burn time? Well here's what I noted. Pic and Coghlan's not only appear the same but they burn about the same too. These two had a burn time of anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. (It may be wise to note that these burn times for all three suppliers occurred in the humidity range of 80% - 100%). The Off brand only burns for 3 to 4 hours.That's all well and good, but what about mosquito control? I couldn't tell any difference among the three brands here. (Note: I do not have access to a lab where I could do a control with a set number of mosquitos in a given area so here I went solely on my own observations.Here are my results and recommendations along with Pros and Cons.Buy the Off brand if money doesn't matter to you and if the nice scent appeals to you.Buy the Pic or Coghlan's if the scent isn't so important to you and you want to save a butt load of money!Buy the Pic or Coghlan's if you want the longer burn times.My pick is the Pic brand because I can get larger quantities and thus save more money and get the same mosquito control. Yes, the Pic and Coghlan's can be tricky to separate for some people. Follow the instructions on how to separate the coils and you won't have a problem. I haven't broken a single one (once I read and followed the instructions). Another con for these two products is the small slot for mounting the coil. It is to small for anything but the supplied coil holders. If Pic would make this small slot the same as the Off brand, then they would be a six star product and fit into my nicer coil burning plates. Hope the guys at Pic pay attention to this, many of their reviews complain about this very thing and the coils will break easily if forced.Here is my final take on this. The Off brand is convenient and smells nice but at more than 3 times the price per coil and only half the burn time per coil, the Off brand will cost me six (6) times more for the same result with Pic.Sorry Off, I am switching to Pic! I've had a horrible infestation of NoSeeUms in my houses in northern California in the Bay Area, and in Colorado, in the Front Range foothills and plains, northeast of Denver. This Pic product one of the only ones that works on these tiny, smaller than gnat sized, superbugs, at all. At first it seemed to kill half of the NoSeeUms, now, they may have developed some immunity, but that is true of these superbugs. So, I don't see as much of a thinning out of numbers of the evil critters as I did at the start of using these.But, this product is still very useful because it's an attractant, not a repellent. They love the CO2 the incense gives off, and perhaps the campfire sage like scent, so they flock to it, and dance around it, giving me a breather from them, so I can go to sleep. I was surprised to find they like going to it, since it's supposed to be a repellant. No, it doesn't repel the ones in my houses at all, it attracts them. My advice is to put the burning incense coils away from you in the room, at least a few feet, or completely on the other side of the room, from where you are sleeping or eating or working. I set up several of these Pic incense sticks on the metal stands, burning around my bedroom, and then they go there, instead of attacking me, which makes it much easier to fall asleep at night, when these bizarre psycho insects program themselves to attack me and you.This brings me to the point about the scent, I find it very pleasant, and very easy to tolerate, unlike most of these American sold mosquito coil incense products. The others, like Coghlans, leave me coughing, & feeling dizzy & icky after 10 minutes, and I have to discontinue them, & let the bugs attack, as it becomes a matter of survival, with a lesser evil. No such problems with the Pic coils at all, and I find the campfire scent it gives off, with a bit of a sage bush aroma, perfectly pleasant, and very easy to tolerate on my lungs, nose, & brain. So, that part's great. I've been using this product nightly since a huge infestation occurred last October, when they came inside our house, when the weather turned freezing outside (our house is by a creek). It's a great help. The Pic incense coils are easy to break, so one has to be very careful, pay close attention, when putting them on the metal stands. The stands could be better designed, as often the sticks fall off them because the stands aren't properly engineered to hold the stick sizes. So one has to be careful when putting them on, or switch to a different holder you could buy. It's a minor annoyance, and more about being careful when putting them on. Other than that, it is by far the best product of its type that I've tried. Very easy to tolerate, and has such a pleasant smell. All for a very low price, a good deal. I'm thinking also that the allethrin (permethrin like insecticide, not harmful to humans) in the Pic product is a much better, and more effective, insecticide than the other incense coil brands have too. However, I wish it were possible to buy different amounts of percentage of allethrin, because these superbugs are far too adaptable, and that makes me convinced the NoSeeUms were created by a scary Lab somewhere, rather than by nature. Those of you who have dealt with these horrible creatures know what I mean. Anyway, I highly recommend the Pic product. The only reason I gave it 4, instead of 5, stars is due to the not great design of the metal stands, and no option for a higher dosage of allethrin. Other than that, it really is one of the best products to deal with these creatures, and one of the few that actually works and does something, without harming me or you. The only other thing I've found meeting those criteria is 100% orange oil, I buy it online, and then I dilute it with water, into a spray bottle (about one or two ounces orange oil to 16 ounces of water). They hate orange oil on their body & wings, and supposedly, it disrupts their sense of smell they use to fly, attack, etc.. I use the orange oil/water spray bottle, but it only repels them for a couple minutes to up to 10-15 minutes, while the incense burns a lot longer, so the Pic coils are a big help with this problem.

I've been buying PIC coils for years. I found their coils easier to separate in their package. The coils do their intended job .well. No complaints from this hiker / camper.

I was really excited to try this mosquito coil, especially since I spend a lot of time on my balcony in the evenings. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to expectations.First, separating the coils was frustrating—despite being very careful, they kept breaking. This made setup more stressful than it should be. Once I finally got it lit, I was hopeful it would keep the mosquitoes away. But even with the coil burning right next to me, I still ended up with bites.Overall, I was disappointed. It seemed promising, but between the fragility of the coils and the lack of effectiveness, I can’t recommend it based on my experience.

I’ve been buying these for years. They’re ideal for my open air workshop. Not a panacea by any means, but they make the low-breeze environment bearable without the need for a skin applied repellent. No powerful odor. Usually burn 6 hours or more. And they are relatively affordable. The included stands are frustratingly delicate and begging to be replaced by something more substantial. But they are good enough to give the coils a try. Overall great product for my situation.
