How well does this umbrella hold up against strong winds?

It works pretty well, much better than regular umbrellas because the wind doesn't get up inside and flip it. Out with our dog this morning, heavy rain, heavy wind, and a lady walking by me had her umbrella flip ("that's what I get for buying a cheap umbrella") was her comment and this umbrella held up really well.

when the rain dries is it all spotted?

Yes. But it never blows away and keeps you very dry. Worth the spots.

When it is fully opened the umbrella is approximately 30" wide. An average sized man and woman can stand under it in a "cozy" fashion, in other words, if he puts his arm around her shoulder. As far as umbrellas go, this one feels much sturdier than others. If it's taken care of, it should last a long time. Allow it to dry before you close it up. There is no such thing as having bad luck from opening an umbrella indoors. If it's very cold- from being in the car- or, if it has been closed for a long time, the vinyl will stick to itself, so peel it open with care. You can go on the Totes website to find out more.
