i assume it's auto-open...is it also auto-close? i.e., when you hit the button, does the canopy collapse?

I bought three of these umbrellas and thought that they were defective because if you fail to open the velcro clasp that holds it closed, it will not extend. Once the clasp is unfastened, it extends into a full umbrella with the press of a button. One hand operation to open. Surprisingly, when open, if you press the button the umbrella collapses. But then you need to push it back into the closed position. Pretty cool.

38" diameter, 42" arc measurement ... perfect size, not skimpy, very durable,

how long is the umbrella when closed ?

11" or 28cm. These are much better construction than other compact umbrellas I've had. Enjoy!

How much does it weigh as want to take for overseas travel?

I'm estimating here as don't have anything to weigh it, feels lighter than my block of butter so would say less than 1lb. It's a good umbrella for a cheap one.
