After the notorious outlaws Amaranthe and Sicarius helped overthrow the corrupt faction controlling the empire and brought in a great war hero to lead the nation to prosperity, they finally earned their pardons—and some time off. A tropical vacation cruising around in a private submarine? Perfect. But their trip is interrupted by a summons from the new president: they're needed back at home. Trouble unlike anything they've ever dealt with threatens to destroy the capital city and throw the fledgling republic into chaos. The follow-up to The Emperor's Edge series, Republic takes place a few months after the events of Forged in Blood I & II. It is a complete 210,000-word novel. Review: it just makes me happy - LOVE LOVE LOVE this series! I hunker down and binge-read through the whole series every so often and went back to the beginning (all the way back to Encrypted, which I consider to be the beginning) to re-acquaint myself with my old friends...and I'm never sorry that I go back. Anyway, this book: it's a bit of a masterpiece! Several clearly and cleverly written POV characters...the POV is never confusing and switches seamlessly throughout the book without backtracking the story arc. Very well done! I REALLY liked the book, but I'm not certain I would enjoy it as much if I hadn't already been invested in the whole gang. I'm sure it'd still be a GOOD book, but maybe not a FANTASTIC book. It's hard to pinpoint something to call my "favorite" part, but I want to point out the ending: it left off with a feeling of a contented sigh, deeply satisfying, lots of loose ends pulled snugly close, but also a fair number of new starts and hints of possible future stories. I follow the author's blog and hugely admire her attentiveness to fans, work ethic, and creativity--I know she's got several projects that are also close to her heart and it seems she might not be certain what direction, if any, this series will take next, but I trust her and know that any direction she chooses will be the right one! (I like the other series, too, but this is my favorite, by far.) Review: Another excellent addition to the emperor's edge universe - I am a huge fan of Lindsay Buroker and was naturally excited when she produced another novel in my favorite universe. This book brings back all our favorites and answers the question of what happens when you are starting a whole new government. I loved the plot of this book because it really allowed us to hang out with all the characters and flesh them out some more while still providing an entertaining adventurous backdrop. It was almost like going to a party with all your favorite people :) This adventure is one of my favorites of her books and has all the normal hallmarks: adventure, romance (light and very sweet), shenanigans :) She does such an excellent job of portraying healthy relationships even when one of them is with an almost emotionless assassin that it is immensely satisfying to read and appreciate her characters. I hope everyone will love this as much as I did! Not a book that should be read without reading the others simply because it cannot be appreciated given the seven book (and multiple short stories) history that it is built of off. If you haven't read any; you are in for a treat and go right now and read The Emperor's Edge (you can get it for free from Ms. Buroker's website:[...]

Treat for EE Fans
I have been a fan of this series for a while and was thrilled to discover a new book, especially one that is a meaty 600 or so pages (I read this on the Kindle app and page numbers can be a little fluid). Six hundred more pages with characters I love? Yay! At first, though, I wasn’t sure I would make it through the whole thing. The premise of a giant plant taking over Turgonia was a bit 1950s B-horror movie for me, and that particular plot point didn’t hook me at all. But I knew I had enjoyed the other seven books for good reason, so pushed on. After a few chapters I was able to get into the story, thanks to the strong characters and a conspiracy-driven sub-plot. More than once I had to force myself to put the book down and go to sleep, already. There is a lot of head hopping in this book, and it is done very well. It was never confusing and each viewpoint helped the reader see nuances in the events that may have been otherwise missed. It was also nice to engage with beloved characters by spending whole chapters inside each one’s head. If you are a fan of this series, you probably already have the book. If you are here as a newbie, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning. This isn’t really a stand-alone piece but one that rewards loyal readers and hopefully leaves room for more volumes down the road.

Rip-roaring adventure and fun!
Lindsay Buroker never disappoints. I was a little leery about the 6 POVs that she mentioned leading up to the release of Republic, wondering if the book would be choppy or awkward. No need to worry - the strong characters and even stronger plot lines hold your attention to the end. The world she creates is so vivid and engrossing and you soon find yourself heavily invested in the characters and rooting for a satisfying ending, which I'm happy to say she provides. I was torn between reading the whole thing as fast as I could or trying to hold off on finishing just to make it last longer. Fantasy and steampunk, adventure, humor, a little romance, characters with depth and a vivid fantasy world- what more could you want? Do yourself a favor - read the book. Also check our her blog - it's worth your time.

An epic, engaging swashchuckler fantasy romance
This review is for all 8 books in the series. I hesitated to start it, as I am not generally a fan of fantasy. But I was glad I did, though it started out rather slowly for me, and picked up speed as I went along. The principal characters are very well developed, and the various story lines intriguing and reasonably complex. The series has echoes of Star Wars (without Yoda, Darth Vader or The Force), Star Trek (in its adventuring and a couple of the characters), and Little Shop of Horrors at one point. And too many others to mention, especially in the names of places and people. But it is unique in itself, and if you like strong female lead characters, as I do (I am male, by the way, and old), I think you will find many hours of reading pleasure in the world of Amaranthe and Secarius. I also felt Ms. Buroker ended the series at just the right point. Some authors who write a series cannot seem to end it, or to end it in a satisfying fashion. Ms. Buroker did not fall into that trap. Kudos to her for that and this series.

Not Lindsay's best, but still an enjoyable and amusing read
Oh boy! Back into the Emperor's Edge world with Amaranthe and Sicarius. I love these guys. I truly do. I didn't think I could get enough of them, but the length of this book did start to drag a little, especially with all the hoo-haa about the plant. It seemed a bit excessive. I loved the story and most of the little plot twists and turns, especially some of the more personal hurdles the characters had to overcome in this one. It was a bit of a nice change from all the blowing up and madness that usually follows Amaranthe and the crew. I also love the cross over between Lindsay's Forgotten Ages series and I'm looking forward to the final book in the series. This might not be one of the best in the series, but it's still enjoyable and amusing as well as entertaining and engaging for the most part. One thing I noticed: 69% - "All (delete all, add Are) you all right?"

Another Good Series
I was particularly relieved to find that this author gave us a final book to the series instead of stopping with book 7. Book 7 left way to many questions and unsettled issues for my liking. I have been an avid follower of Sicarius since his introduction in the encrypted series. He was mysterious and intriguing in his reaction to Admiral Starcrest in that series. I was glad to see that Ms. Buroker continued on with his story in Emperor's Edge. I found this entire series worth reading, although I had a difficult time 'liking' Amaranthe. She was just a bit too self-centered in the beginning and was always putting other people in unnecessary danger while at the same time professing to care about each of them. Over time, she seemed to mellow somewhat and became tolerable from my point of view. I did enjoy watching Sicarius develop during the story. The story presented people with all their flaws and you could either like them or not depending on your own standards of behavior and sense of right and wrong. Even Tikaya still had her selective sense of right and wrong. She is supposedly a 'peaceful' person and totally non-violent a harsh judge of the Turgonian people. However, her façade slips drastically when someone she loves is involved. Then her ideas of non-violence do not stand the test and she is just as eager to do harm and anyone else.

Excellent
Excellent finish to an excellent series. You can't help but want more, and at the same time you can feel satisfaction by the time you finish the 8th book.

Love love love this whole series! As with the rest of the books, it's fast paced and hard to put down! I was slightly sceptical
Love love love this whole series! As with the rest of the books, it's fast paced and hard to put down! I was slightly sceptical about so many different point of views at first, but it worked and blended really smoothly. I really enjoyed getting Tikaya's point of view again and love that she and Rias are just as sparky as they were when we left them 20years ago. Honestly, I could keep reading about Sicarius, Amaranthe and the crew forever! The storylines and characters are simply brilliant. The huge bonus is that every other series I have read by Lindsay Buroker so far have also been extremely well written & hard to put down (tooo many sleepless nights lately but so worth it!); funny; cheeky and just downright entertaining! Thankfully I still have book 9 to read and the R&R series, oh and the latest Dragon Blood instalment so I have plenty to keep me occupied. I don't know what I'll do once I've read everything.....probably hang on every word Lindsay releases on FB & Twitter in hopes of the next book release date hehe! Keep up the brilliant work Lindsay!! You are easily my favourite author!

Best book in the series so far
Best book in the series so far. Non stop action through out the entire book and a very enjoyable read. It was great to see all of the characters again, and how everyone's doing. Figures crossed for more.
