Period.: A Girl's Guide [Loulan, JoAnn, Worthen, Bonnie, Quackenbush, Marcia, Dyrud, Chris Wold] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Period.: A Girl's Guide Review: Exactly what I've been looking for..... - This book will be perfect for my 9 yr old and I to use as we discuss her next few years. It is so clear and written at a level she will surely understand. I have read MANY MANY books but they all mesh this topic in along with topics which are too old for a 9 yr old. However three of her friends have already started so she needs to be informed now. As everyone has mentioned the text and drawings are very clear. I was afraid I would have to sketch things out for her - but not now since it's all here. The more teenage topic is quickly referenced on two separate pages in this book - but if she asks I will just say it's for a later discussion. I will be using this book along with Nancy Rue's "The Body Book, It's a God Thing". Both of these books are very well suited for a 9 yr old. I passed on "The Care and Keeping of You" and "Ready, Set, Grow" for adding in too much information that young girls don't need at ages 9 or 10. Review: Period: a girls guide - I enjoyed reading this book it was informative and written in simple easy to understand style. My 10 year old daughter also liked the book because it was uncomplicated and they broke down this very complex period of life into words and illustrations that she could both relate to and understand. We both read the book together which assisted in our mother/daughter relationship as it was something we could share. I also like the fact that the book looked beyond periods and talked about overall wellness and health of the pre-teen. I would encourage any mother with a child about to enter puberty to purchase this book for their pre-teen. Wanjie

Great Book for Girls and this Subject
This book was perfect to give my daughter to help her understand the changes that are happening to her body. She has asked questions about his subject in the past but still wasn't sure how to ask some of them so I felt this book would be help to her and it was. She read it in a day and soon after she was asking questions and talking about this subject openly with me. I highly recommend it...especially since it doesn't approach sex-ed like the other books I researched do.

Good, but not as fun to read as others
I purchased this book for my 12 year old daughter. It is an informative book with some monochromatic illustrations. I also purchased "Ready, Set, Grow". My daughter's opinion is that "Ready, Set, Grow" was an easier reading style, more colorful and more fun to read. I have to agree with her. I also enjoyed reading the other book more than this one. I would recommend this book, but if you're only going to buy ONE book, I'd recommend "Ready, Set, Grow".

Perfect book for my daughter
This book was perfect to introduce changes in the body to my 9.5 year old daughter. It was very carefully written for a young audience/reader and it explained everything in a way she could understand. What I enjoyed most about it is that sex was not mentioned, so it was very appropriate. I recommend this book to all parents who want to discuss hormonal and puberty changes with their daughters.

Good book for preteens
This is a wonderful book. Tells a girl everything she needs to know without going into the sex stuff. (There are great books for that later) I gave this to my niece and she went right into her room shut the door and read it. Same thing happened when I gave it to the 12 year old daughter of a friend.

Book review
My 9 year old read the whole book the first day she got it. It was a wonderful way for me as a parent to begin a conversation that I was not ready for. I gave her the book to read first, and after she read the book, the two of us began our discussion. As a parent, who was not sure how to start a discussion about the what happens to a girl as she matures, the book was an excellent resource.

Good for all ages, well written, well illustrated
The information is accurate and written in an easy-to-understand format. The line drawings are interesting without being distracting or confusing. The book sticks to one topic, and one topic only. This reassuring and informative book can be enjoyed by girls of any age. Since girls are maturing early, and need this information at such a young age, I appreciate how this book could be shared with a young child without introducing sexual issues that the child isn't ready for.

Daughter loved this- read it in one sitting on a Sunday morning sat in mums bed. Asked questions and felt at east. Book was good and I could add more biological things where needed. Good level without being too in her face

Really good for a young girl preparing for her first period. Age-appropriate and uncomplicated. I would recommend to all mums and grandmothers and aunts to give to their girls. Knowledge is power, and it takes the fear out of it.
