“In Down to Earth: Laid-back Interiors for Modern Living , designer Lauren Liess shares how she imbues any space with warmth and energy.” ― Martha Stewart Living Let Lauren Liess, star of HGTV’s Best House on the Block , walk you through her decorating process step-by-step. Lauren takes you beyond the basics and invites readers to incorporate the main components of her familiar design aesthetic: nature, easy living, and approachability. She wants to help you create a home where humble materials and found objects are celebrated, a home in which both style and soul might endure throughout the years. With evocative photos and substantive design advice, Down to Earth focuses on creating a lifestyle that inspires creativity and functionality. Chapters here include Point of View; Timelessness; Something Old, Something New; Nature; and Simplicity. Lauren believes that creating a home means creating the lifestyle you want—relaxed, unplugged, natural, and full of beauty. Here she shows readers how to incorporate six guiding principles in six unique homes: A new farmhouse A classic American historical home A lakeside contemporary house A modern villa A turn-of-the-century American foursquare A cedar and glass house on a bluff Lauren writes, “ Down to Earth explores the key elements of my aesthetic through a collection of homes that I believe embody the natural, relaxed, collected, and easy way of living I’ve come to love so much. . . . I hope this exploration into what down-to-earth means to me inspires you to create your own carefree, easy, and most important, fully present kind of life at home.” Review: if your looking for inspiration this is it! - saw other comments.. about it being repetitious, not "down to earth", etc...&personally i greatly disagree. the first 15 pages or so do have the same home&or rooms shown from more than one angle, but it's because it looks different from every angle. The designs are very layered with A GREAT DEAL of mixed textures. which disapproves the down to earth comment i feel. it's warm, relaxing, the kinda book you can sit&just turn pages slowly to take all of it in, before when reading it. the best part is it's not.. "over the head". not pretentious. She numbers things&describes the vibe intended, as well as what paint was used, Benjamin moore/dove white, etc. i just finished renovating&redecorating my home & told my husband after reading this book i wish i could pick a couple rooms&start from scratch. just for fun! &anyone that's been thru the stress of renovation... knows that statement is insanity. that's how much i was inspired from this book. its not the best design book eeeeeever, but it's for sure one of my fav's! &highly recommend. Review: Down to Earth Decor - I love this book. It is definitely a mix of the different decor styles that I love. Nature with traditional and modern looks. The only thing is that I was hoping it would be the same texture in the pages like in her previous book, Habitat. All the images are just beautiful. This is definitely a book that I will keep referring to.

Love It. On the rich side but can be adapted for Lower Income.
I've recently gone from dark colors into beige and natural tones. (Mostly because my room is covered in Knotty Pine Paneling which makes it super dark. Think of a cabin with only one window.) This book combines the two beautifully and incorporates aspects of nature which i also enjoy! It adds a touch of tropics and lust for travel to every picture. For us budget people it is on the rich side of life. Big house custom art work or vintage items sold at auctions. But with a little creativity you can adapt this decorating style to fit any low income house. In the book she shows a room then tells you how she did it. What color paint, textures, and woven materials were used. The author owns her own Interior Design Firm and was featured on HGTV. So expect the money to ooze out of the pages a little. I did however find her words and pictures inspirational for my decorating needs and incorporated some of her style into mine own. I also added this one and Habitat to my collection of books to inspire me when i get into a decorating funk or start to over think a room. The only flaw and i may be knit picking here, is all the Green Flora is obviously freshly picked for the photos. So if you want that that look to last you'll have to find artificial ones.

Bernie the Squirrel and the Ultimate in Storytelling
Habitat remains my all-time favorite design book. For this reason, I was a little disappointed at first with Lauren’s new book. How could she meet these unrealistically high expectations? But today I had the chance to slow down and take a closer look at Down to Earth and it is sublime. I fell in love with the book when I noticed the inclusion of Bernie, Lauren’s uncle’s pet squirrel. In her elegant and understated way, she casually introduces Bernie in a gorgeous photo of the project she did for her uncle. Talk about down to earth! I love the high end projects that incorporate natural objects and possibly, just maybe, a pair of Ikea plug-in sconces if my hunch is correct. I can dream about owning these spaces and incorporate tiny bits of them into my own home. Unfortunately, I do not think that my husband is going to say “yes” to a pet squirrel. Beautiful work, Lauren!

Great book but crushed at the spine
I bought a few books as coffee table books from Amazon. The books are great. Lovely to read and photos are nicely done. The problem is the packaging really needs to improve cos there’s a reason People buy books in a digital age. It’s for the aesthetics of a book. Amazon doesn’t pack them properly that both of the books delivered have tears / crushed spine as on the video. It’s a shame that I won’t be buying them online anymore. Will just read reviews here and visit the bookstore to buy

Such a brilliant book
I just love this book ! I don’t think I have ever come across a book such as this where I actually like all the ideas & could happily live with any of them. That being said, if you don’t like the casual laid back style you will probably not like it ! For me, it is a book to return to again & again.
