rolls VP29 Phono Preamp

Awesome product, and for the price point spot on! Solid construction, small and easy to place anywhere, no discernable distotion, very fucntional!

In my 60 years plus of turntables and phono cartridges and preamp experience.. I have rarely come across such an item at such a low cost to both novices and experienced audiophiles alike. Having said that.. the rolls VP 29 phone on stage is one of those rare gems that definitely twinkle went in the ear of the beholder.It's bright red compact appearance easily distinguishes this little Wonder from others. The connections to the rear of the Red Box are well marked on top indicating both left and right inputs and outputs which just happened to be gold-plated and just happen to make me very very happy that they are so! Use good cables and your turntable will sound even better. Incidentally while speaking of the rear connections there is a ground binding post which is absolutely exemplary! It features a small hole in the HD screw connector which accepts both bare wire and lug very nicely and securely. Kudos to this USA company for designing an engineering such a compact Little Wonder.All of this is well and good but how does it sound? Well I'm happy to report that the sound is absolutely exceptional especially at its price point. I seriously doubt that you could do significantly better at twice the price. The sound quality coming from your turntable will be rich detailed and startling as you will discover new nuances in your favorite records. The dimensionality of the image is a wonderful despite what a few nose up in the air audio files might tell you. Anyone who tells you that it lacks such a quality either doesn't know what they're talking about or have turned a blind eye to such a budget product. The fact of the matter is that this budget preamp Wonder brings an extraordinary amount of detail to the table. You need it especially if you're modern receiver or amplifier Lacks a phono stage input. It is designed strictly for moving magnet cartridges not moving coil ones which have an even lower output so please keep that in mind. As such this turns out to be a strength rather than a weakness for the product as the engineering and circuitry and overall build quality is focused on moving magnet performance. The OUTPUT of the VP29 is significantly HIGHER than the cheapies. Please keep this in mind.In conclusion I would say.. especially if you're a beginner in the hobby.. trying to avoid the temptation to choose a made in China $10 preamp but also avoid the more expensive types made anywhere! Trust me when I tell you this is your preamp and I have been looking at this for over the past 10 years and finally pulled the trigger I'm glad I did! Reminder: This is not a sound enhancing preamplifier for your entire amplifier unit. This is for converting your non-digital turntable signal into a line level signal.And this unit does an admirable job at that. It's totally quiet, which is huge at this price. So many of these boxes rattle and hum until you get into audiophile prices. But it's not really designed to enhance the sound of your turntable like those are, these were more designed to accurately reproduce the sound of your turntable and stylus at a constant line level, then let your amplifier do its thing. And that's exactly what this does, with a little added warmth. No fuss, no muss. Just a nice looking, working man's, nothin' fancy, get the job done, smooth, strong, red metal unit. This was a pleasant surprise.

This preamp is a pretty inexpensive way to get your receiver enough power to play your records. The vp29 is metal constructed with easy diagrams to follow when holing up your turntable to your stereo. It comes with it's own power supply, and it has a standard headphone jack (1/8" as opposed to the larger 1/4"). The only drawback is there is not a way to increase volume on the rolls vp29 when listening to records with your headphones. However, since most receivers have a headphone outlet on them, this issue really isn't much of one. I have found the vp29 play volume to be sufficient. This preamp is a good entry-level pream that makes my records sound fine.

I’m the decades-old owner of decades-old vinyl but had been without a turntable for many years. My wife and kids were kind enough to get me an Audio-Technica LP60-USB turntable and some Edifier 1280t bookshelf speakers. Bless their hearts.I ran the turntable (which possesses its own preamp) directly to the speakers but found that the audio quality, while acceptable, was less than stellar.I’m not an audiophile and have no such aspirations. I just want to enjoy the occasional spin of a platter so I looked for an inexpensive way to get more performance out of my setup.Based on the reviews here I purchased this preamp and inserted it between the turntable and the speakers, then toggled off the built-in preamp.The resulting sound quality was immediately distinguishable. Remembered nuances of the works are audible again and more power of the production comes through. This all made me very happy and while I don’t understand all the technical data I now know better than to run with a budget-grade built-in preamp.Thanks Rolls!

First let me say i am a young 72 years of age. in the 70s i sold and owned many what we referred to then as 'high end'stereo components, i.e., Thorens, Marantz, SME. At one time i had a bi-amped system with 365 watts per channel in a10 by 12 room. My system now is down to Polk floor standing speakers, two turntables, a Connoisseur i bought in '77and a Sony PS-LX3 direct drive i bought recently for convenience. power is a 1994 Onkyo pro-logic receiver running80 watts per channel in stereo. Thought i had a pretty fair sounding system. bought this pre-amp because i was goingto change to an amplifier with no phono stage.upon in stalling the Rolls, i was immediately struck how noise free and transparent the sound was. i first played aCrosby, Stills, & Nash cut of thrift shop LP and was blown away. what quickly caught my attention was the subtilfade on the voices of the reverb on them. also, it seems that the minor pops and clicks were greatly diminished.Next up was Abba's 'Voulez-Vous' Lp. In particular, the cut 'Chiquitta', which has quite a great dynamic range in spots.there is a spot in the song where there is a pause in the singing, and then bang, the girls starting singing at quite avolume. the silence coming off the record was like it was black. the vocals seemingly jumped out from nowhere.i could go on raving about the rolls, but if you have a system to challenge this unit, you will be amazed!

This VP29 exceeded my expectations. I will not apologize for using a modern AV receiver with no phono input b/c I also like to watch HD movies in 5.1 surround. However, my new STR-1030 sounds great with this little red gadget amping my Thorens TD-160. The VP29 provides accurate reproduction to the receiver. In fact the level is as loud as my other inputs which was not the case on my previous phono capable receiver. I can only see a couple of bells and whistles that are missing, the unit does not have a volume knob and you have to unplug it to turn it off. Other than that its a great way to upgrade your system and bring your records along. BTW its made in the USA and looks cool.

For my 40th bday my sister gifted me a 1980 (year I was born) Marantz 6100 turntable accompanied w/ 1980 receiver. I don't have speakers at the moment to complete this amazing vintage system, so, after doing a little research, the Rolls phono preamp seemed to be the perfect fit for my modern receiver that does not have the phono inputs. Now I'm able to play my vinyls throughout my house via surround sound, and it sounds awesome. The only thing I didn't have/forgot to purchase at the same time was a double sided RCA cable so the preamp and my receiver can hold hands. Long story short, great price for the product and it's function!

The preamp is fantastic, but unfortunately the power supply it came with arrived damaged, and i was unable to get a replacement from the seller due to a warehouse issue. I did manage to obtain a replacement power supply and the seller did discount me for the damaged power supply but.

今年、2022年1月に2台目を購入しようとAmazon.com(USA)にアクセスしたものの、メーカー欠品してたためeBayとAmazon.jpを探してたらAmazon.comより少し高価であったがAmazon.jpに在庫があり購入したものです。Rolls VP-29は５万円超以上のフォノアンプに見劣りしない製品だと思います。但し、添付のAC-DCアダプターはチープなため、昔買い込んでいたYAMAHA製pa-6電源アダプターのプラグに極性反転プラグ（センターマイナスに変えて）をかまして使っています。

The unit is simple and works very well. No hum or other noise produced just great clean sound from your turntable. I would point out though that this unit has no adjustable gain. This wasn't an issue for me as my cartridge has an output of 5.5mv. Possibly lower output cartridges this might be an issue. At this price point it is an excellent Preamp.

電源はセンターマイナス（ー）、要注意！　ゲインは仕様上も聴感上も適正。ハム等のノイズは特に気にならない。音質はやや粗く、雑味を感じるが許容範囲。アメリカで評価が高いのも頷ける。手軽に使えて結構です。

Perfect. Awesome sound no humming/buzzing and looks neat. Very small unit, has a ground knob on the back for my older record player. Preamp for my Sonos play:5 and it works awesome.
