Odies Oil WORKS on ButcherBlock!!!
FINALLY!! After using several different products on my butcher block countertop, Odies is the only one that actually finished it!! I tried mineral oil, that was a mess and didn't last a month, I tried a few popular oil/beeswax blends, that didn't last more than a couple weeks either, and it did allow mold to grow under it. It took me quite a long time to sand that down enough to bleach out the mold/mildew stains. At that point I was just completely disappointed and felt I had made a mistake getting butcher block. I really didn't want to use one of those varnish type finishes due to my heating vent being directly over the counter, and having a dog. I didn't want a countertop with dog hair stuck in the finish. My last ditch effort after completely sanding down the countertop was to use Odies Oil. I personally don't care for the smell, but it dissipated in about 2 hours. It's easy to use, but you do need to put some elbow grease into it. Worth the effort! I followed the directions carefully and was rewarded with a beautiful finish that still looks today, just like it was the day I applied it about 6 weeks ago. Pic 1 was the night I finished applying Odies. Pic 2 and Pic 3 are today, Water still beads up! It really does harden up with time. It leaves a nice sheen and let's the beauty of the wood shine thru. It doesn't change the color much either. I hope it darkens with time to match my cabinets better. I figure with continued use of my countertop, I may have to re-apply a coat of Odies, but I'm fine with that. There was plenty left over after 2 coats. I used less than 1/4 of the jar. Great product!

Use sparingly. I used scotch pads on my orbital sander instead of rubbing it on by hand.
I have always used mineral oil on my serving boards. I wanted to try something different. I read some of the reviews for odies oil and decided to try it. It works great, easy to use. A little pricy. Boards are silky smooth. If you buff them just a little the next day they are even smoother to the touch.

Fantastic product.
Had to write a review after using Odies on two of my spoons. Just an incredible product that really makes your wood projects pop. Next level ingredients and superb quality. Smells fantastic and applies great. Doesn’t take a lot and the jar will last a long time.

Give this a try!!!
I made wooden countertops out of pine and maple. I work a lot with wood and different sealants/ lacquers/ waxes. This product is amazing!! I stained the wood with an oil based sealer. Went back and forth with what finish I wanted. I’ve read numerous posts on Reddit on how great this product is so I decided to give it a try! It’s been a year since I’ve applied it and I do not have any wear spots! It still has a shine to it, water repels from it and does not damage the wood. This is the best product I have used on wood!!!

It’s not cheap, but it’s worth it
I’ve tried other hard wax oils (like Rubio and Natura) but I’ve been Odie’s curious for a while so I gave it a shot. I’ve used it in a few projects and the results have been great. I really like that there is no 2-part mixing and that it’s safe to get on your hands. (Though I can tell you that it dries pretty sticky on your skin so I do wear gloves) Application is a breeze with a white scuff pad, then leave it for 30 minutes and wipe off any excess. In my experience, it’s been safe to handle the next morning. It says to give it a few weeks to fully cure before exposing to moisture but my projects don’t really get wet so I don’t have experience there. Two usage notes: the product doesn’t have much of a sheen, it’s similar to using a satin poly or lacquer. I’ll probably try some Odie’s wax in the future to give it more luster. Pictured is the result of using this on hard maple, like most products it gives the wood a slight amber tint. Overall, I’m really happy with the product and plan to continue using it. It’s not cheap but it looks like a $55 jar could last me a year or more.

Pleasantly good for bare wood, adds shine on top of Danish oil
I've used Odie's on both new wood and old wood surfaces that were already coated with other products. On new wood, this gives a very similar look to Danish Oil: It darkens the wood color and provides a smooth slightly waxy feel. On old wood surfaces, it provides some minor shine and makes old wood look lively again. I used it on two pairs of speaker cabinets from the 1970's with good results. Be warned that this stuff is REALLY viscous. This is the biggest problem with Odie's. It is about as thick as cold honey. The label says that a little product goes a long way, but it's so thick and slow to work with that it's difficult to spread a small amount over a large surface unless you heat things up. However once you do work it, it gives good results. Also be aware that the label gives some vague guidance about how long to leave it on before buffing it off. Typically I leave it on 12 to 18 hours before wiping it off. This seems to give it more time to soak in, but that's just a guess. Due to the thick nature of this product, I can't imagine it would be ideal to apply it in cold climates because it would be even harder to work in,slower to soak into the surface, and slower to 'dry' or cure or do whatever it does when exposed to air (if anything). I suspect this product is a blend of mineral oil, beeswax, and perhaps orange or lemon oil. It has a pleasant vague fragrance that is hard to describe but may be beeswax. I like having this on hand to rejuvenate old wood, however I am not sold on using this on new wood because i just prefer other products. However if you wanted to go "solvent free", this product would work well. One final note: I used Odie's as the final coat over 4 coats of Danish Oil. The results are amazing. The Danish oil finished with XXXX steel wool looked great, but as a test I applied a layer of Odie's. The Odie's moved the satin finish to an attractive semi-gloss finish and gave the wood an even more glassy feel. This is a great combination and the surface could be easily re-coated with Odie's or a similar product after a year or two.

We used Odie’s Oil on a live edge table we made, and the results are absolutely amazing! The finish brought out the natural beauty of the wood, and the table looks stunning. So far, there haven’t been any stains, and the product itself smells great, which is a nice bonus. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to protect and enhance their wood projects!
