I researched several rice cookers on this site, and I read every single review for this Zojurishi before making my decision to order it. I was aware of the warnings about the sputtering, but I decided to take a chance on it anyway. I'm very glad I did. I've been using it for months now, and I'm incredibly happy with it. It cooks rice wonderfully, and it's the perfect size for a small family (there's three of us). Taking the recommendations of previous reviewers, I follow the directions on the package of rice as opposed to the cooker's instructions, and it's worked quite well. I've used it for jasmine rice and sushi rice and both have come out great. Had a little trouble with brown rice. I have had the sputtering happen once, but it was because the cooker was too full, and now that I'm aware of that, I haven't had the problem since. I definitely recommend the Zojirushi rice cooker to anyone that needs a small, easy-to-use, reliable rice cooker that can stand up well to frequent use. July 9, 2009 - Nearly three years after my initial purchase (September 2006) of this rice cooker, I just had to come on here and add that I'm still using it regularly (several times a week most weeks), it's in great shape, and still cooks rice wonderfully. This has been one of the best appliance investments I've ever made - it was more than worth every penny. I might eventually upgrade to one of the fuzzy logic models, but this serves my needs perfectly for now. January 8, 2014 - Over 7 years, and we're still using it, and it's still in great shape. It's just recently, in the last year or so, started to toast (not really burn) the rice a bit on the bottom of the pan, but that can be attributed to the non-stick coating on the bottom being a bit scratched up after 7 years of use. I might replace the pan, but I have no reason to replace the cooker itself. We even got a fuzzy logic model about a year ago, and while we do use that one regularly, this one still gets used frequently as well when we don't plan ahead and need the rice done more quickly (the cook time in this one is ~20 minutes, the fuzzy logic one takes ~50 minutes). There is not any noticeable (at least to me) difference in the quality of the cooked rice other than the toasting issue already mentioned, which doesn't happen in then much newer one (understandably). While I love the options my fuzzy logic cooker offers, for basic rice this little workhorse is still great, and will be in my kitchen until it dies (at which point I will probably buy another one).

I had an Aroma rice maker that was fine but got moldy due to the design. I got this to replace the Aroma model. I’ve had it a week and made rice 4 times. The rice comes out perfect every time and the rice maker is super easy to use. I like the simple controls. The nonstick coating on the cooking pan is perfect. No rice has stuck at all and is easily removed with the plastic scoop. The price was great for the quality of the cooker. The design is well thought out; I’m not worried about this model getting moldy like my old Aroma cooker did because the cooking pan seals off the heating element and the glass lid is extremely easy to clean. I’ve only made 1 cup and 2 cups of rice so far, so I can’t speak to the 6 cup capacity. Also, like others have said, when the rice is cooking, the water does bubble up and does come out of the cooker a tiny bit. I just put it near my sink and there really isn’t much of a mess to clean up so this is a minor issue. It mainly just bubbles up on top of the lid and doesn’t overflow everywhere. The cooker is compact and easy to store. I hope it lasts a long time like the other reviews say because it is a phenomenal rice cooker and the rice comes out perfect every time. Also, it cooks the rice quickly, maybe 15 mins or so. It’s quiet also. I highly recommend this rice cooker for anyone who likes perfectly cooked rice at the flip of a switch.

Everything I have made has turned out great and much better than in other conventional rice cookers I have owned. I love my big Zoji but this is so much quicker I use it most of the time. The 6 cup rice capacity turned out to be the size I needed and was purchased because it was the smallest with a warmer. Most types of rice cooks quickly in approximately 15 minutes, but tastes better if you let it sit for at least 10 minutes before fluffing. For speed and quality in cooking, a definite 5 stars but took off a star for the pot being really thin. After only a week of heavier use than usual to test it, the pot is slightly discolored but it does not affect the non stick. No problems with sticking. Brown rice was a real test but isn’t one I cook very much. First tried it without soaking and it was messy without overflow but needed to be carefully monitored. Soaking it for approximately 20 minutes made a difference. The lid and the main body of the cooker are well made and heavier than usual for this type of rice cooker from other makers. Overall it seems to be the usual Zojirushi quality and should prove to be well worth the money spent. The steamer tray is well made but a bit disappointing in the area to remove it from the bowl. It isn’t that easy to get out quickly. Tiger makes a steamer basket that doesn’t transfer flavors to rice and is easy to remove with a slot to put a fork in to lift it out. ///// Oct 2025 update: watch for big prime sales as this was almost $20 less now than when I bought it. Price is now a no brainer for this Zoji. Basmati rice is my favorite and this cooks it perfectly every time. Even at the higher price, no regrets.

This rice cooker is awesome! It cooks rice perfectly every single time with almost no effort. The operation is simple—just add the rice and water, press the button, and let it do its thing. Listen up rice people (not like that, you know why you’re here). I did exactly what you did to get to this point. I googled “best rice maker 202x” and found this and a few others on almost every list I could find. I chose this one for price and one button ease, probably something you may or may not also be interested in. I have several children I have to feed and when they’re screaming and running and throwing things and hanging on to my leg as I’m trying to cook a dinner that our ancestors in the 80s would call 5 star dining since it’s not microwaved or filled with butter. The first time I used this, I GROSSLY underestimated the cook time. I was still ankles deep in my pasta sauce when this puppy clicked, my last rice cooker from the early 2000’s would have taken 2 hours and a cigarette break to complete. Anyways, rice was…. Not sticky mush with a burnt layer at the bottom. (Yes I wash my rice you goons). I couldn’t believe it. Best bowl of rice I’ve had since the weird waiter at Yen Chings caressed my shoulders and told me the “rice is special here” when I was like 8. Today, I didn’t have the ingredients to make traditional Spanish rice and opted for “let’s dump a can of rotel and some seasoning in this pot and see what happens”. Going back to my old rice cooker. If I even thought about doing something like that with that old thing it would have exploded and taken out me and my loud neighbors house at the same time. My god. Not only did it not explode, the rice came out…. GOOD. And cooked right. Doesn’t get better than this fam. 5 stars. Buy this. Stop looking.

This is the first rice cooker I've ever bought and honestly, I don't know why I waited so long. I read reviews for some of the lower priced cookers and found that they were good, but not quite as good as the Zojirushi. I happened to get it on sale and absolutely love it! So easy to use and the rice comes out nice and fluffy. So much easier than standing by the stove and so much better quality and taste than microwavable rice. Just measure your rice, add water and turn it on. This one has an automatic shut off and stay warm feature which makes it even more convenient. It's small and easy to store. So glad I finally got one!

This is a magnificent rice cooker. I love how simple it is to use and the very easy, descriptive instructions. This is definitely worth the price tag. The rice comes out tasty, fluffy, and sticky every time. I am so happy with the purchase. After using it, my partner and I talk about how amazing our rice is after every single use. 10/10 would buy again.

owned this for like almost a year now, use it weekly. replaced an older, high end panasonic. I like that this is smaller in diameter but taller. I like the glass lid. I like the removable cord. Have never had an issue with over cooked rice. would recommend.
