Very durable and easy to operate.
Already trapped injured community cat. Excellent trap. Love that feeding tray area has up and down gate: makes transfers when needed much easier. Very sturdy, solid cage build. Easy to operate and simple for users. I have been told by more experienced trappers that many veterinarians will accept for TNR only True Catch traps.

This is by far the best trap I've ever worked with.
I cannot recommend this Tru Catch trap highly enough. I had been using the silver spring loaded traps that are made by another reputable company. The silver ones are a quality built product, but the LOUD spring-loaded design snaps shut hard enough to injure a kitten if it is caught in the doorway when the mother triggers the trip plate. The silver snap shut so loudly that it scares the cats in the colony. This really slows progress when one is attempting to mass trap. I also had a few larger cats escape those regularly enough to prevent me from being able to TNR a large tom who will not go near a trap now. A TNR expert in my area recommended the TruCatch trap and I was able to see her use it before I invested in it. The advantage of this trap is that it operates quietly and it won't injure a small animal. The quiet function makes it easier to deploy and fill multiple traps in a night. The variable trigger can be set to trip easily, or to require more weight to close. I only have two of these, but these are my favorite traps to work with. I have never had a feral escape when I'm working with these. The rear door is easy to operate and secure, which makes it ideal for baiting and for releasing the animal. If you purchase the trap cage dividers, it makes it possible to clean the trap safely without having contact with the animal or worrying about it escaping. (There are videos demonstrating how to do this safely.) The veterinarians I work with have told me this trap is easier for them to work with. If you are comparing both the silver colored traps and this one, this one is worth the investment. This trap has almost the same exterior dimensions as the silver traps, but the animals have much more room inside because there is no spring loaded trigger mechanism to take up a large portion of the interior space. As far as trap covers go, I find it helpful to purchase a twin size sheet and cut the length in half with pinking shears so it won't unravel later. I use the pinking sheers to cut a slit to fit over the handle. This permits me to easily camouflage the trap and covering the feral or wild animal after trapping calms it immediately so it won't struggle and injure itself. WalMart and some on-line vendors still sell single sheets. For making your own trap covers, I recommend the twin size sheets because the end product is larger than trying to squeeze 4 trap covers out of a single king sized sheet. If you TNR ferals, this is the safest and easiest trap to work with and I've worked with most of them. (I have no affiliation with this or any other trap manufacturer.)

Works really well
The Trap - The TruCatch is very well made, sturdy, and safe. While I thought it was pretty expensive, I can see now that it will last as long as it is well cared for. Once I located the bar that props open the door, it was very easy to set and it worked perfectly. I put a thin, reusable pee pad in the trap, mostly for comfort and that worked fine, just make sure it doesn't obstruct the trigger plate. I baited with tunafish. While a bit awkward to carry because of its length, the trap was lighter than I expected, even with cat. It was not a problem for me (small, relatively weak, middle-aged) to handle. Trapping - I bought the TruCatch to TNR feral cats in my neighborhood. I started by putting some regular food out right next to the closed, un-baited trap so they would get used to its presence while they ate. After a week or so, I baited it with tunafish, set it for trapping, and went to bed. Sure enough, there was a male in the trap the next morning. He did bloody his nose a little bit banging his face against the door, but I don't think the trap can be blamed for that. Once he was released, I put the trap back in the same corner. I put a towel over it this time (rather than waiting until a cat was trapped). After a couple more weeks, I baited and set the trap about 6am one morning (I was worried about trapping the raccoon or fox we'd been seeing overnight). I figured my chances weren't good since they have to be at the vet by 7:30, but a female entered within 4 minutes. While she did try to get out, she was much calmer throughout. 2 down and 6 to go!

Best!
The best cat trap I’ve seen. I have no fears that this trap will trap my fingers! Easy to set and effective in trapping feral cats for TNR.

Easy to understand and use trap
I bought two different brands of trap years ago and could never figure them out. I stored them, tried watching videos, was still unsuccessful, so just threw them away. So, when I was shopping for a new one, I was trying to find one easy to understand and chose the TruCatch. This trap is amazing, I love it! There's a rod on the side that makes the thing the animal step inside go up or down. To set it, you open the door by lifting the metal circle things, then balance that rod. Before you use it, you might want to watch a 5-minute video or something, but I promise, once you get it, you'll think oh my goodness, that's super simple! So, a feral cat had kittens on my patio yesterday and I couldn't get near them. Last night I set up the trap out there for a few hours. I didn't catch her, but I think the reason why is I only put food at the very end. Today, after going back to the instructions, I placed a little food at the entrance, then a little food inside, then more food at the very end. I caught her within 30 minutes. The door closes quickly but it doesn't slam down with such force that it would hurt the cat. This would be ideal for catching them and taking them directly to be spayed or neutered. However, this is not that situation this time as she has 5 kittens, so I brought them all in and set them up safely in a room. At least, they can be safe, cool (I'm in AZ and it's 117 degrees outside), and have plenty of food and water. Although, some people claim ferals can't be socialized, I've had luck with it in the past. I'm going to try. Even if I fail, at least all those kittens will be very well socialized to humans and I can adopt them out and get mom spayed after they're weaned. There is NO way I would have been able to catch her without this trap. I would highly recommend buying this trap!
