First time GoPro User but pleasantly surprised
My wife and I purchased this camera just a few days prior to a motorcycle trip to the Black Hills so as to capture our trip on film. Probably would have been better to get it much sooner to learn more about the camera and all its functions. But, out of the box we were able to set it up for what we wanted and were able to take some really great footage of our trip. Pros: Great video, high resolution and lots of options Comes set up with a few preset video and camera settings that worked well. Awesome video stablization Cons: I would expect better battery life as we only got about 45 minutes per battery. Luckily we had purchased a spare. Camera gets pretty hot during extended use. Thought that was an issue but after reading several online reviews and articles I see where it is normal for the camera. Microphones pick up the slightest wind noise so unless you are going to over dub sound, its best to get a wind cover to get rid of the annoying wind noise Now that we have had it for a few weeks we have learned more about the many features it has and have tweaked the settings to give us more battery life and make it easier to use.

Great Action Camera!
A lot of the reviews I see here are from previous GoPro users who are unhappy with their upgrade. I am a first-time GoPro user but come from a family of photographers and professionals. I personally can say I absolutely love the hero8. Stabilization from hypersmooth 2.0 is really near gimbal quality at this point. I've already tested the underwater aspect of the camera without a case and it performed beautifully! I've had zero issues with SD cards, freezing or really anything else. My main gripe is with the GoPro app... not a fan! but doesn't matter because I'm exporting everything to Adobe premiere pro anyways. To sum it up, for an action camera the image quality really is incredible on the GoPro Hero8 and I am perfectly pleased with my purchase I can't wait to really push the limits of this camera!

Quite a bit better than the 7
Well, they fixed my main gripe I had with the Hero 7 black. Now the screen doesn't dim down to 10% after 60 seconds of continuously filming making it impossible to see the screen outside in the sun. The video quality and stabilization have improved a little bit. Colors are slightly more earthy and warmer. That stabilization just keeps getting better and better. Can't wait for the day when you can walk with the camera (not run, but just walk) and it looks like you have it on a dolly track. I like how you don't have to put the camera in a case anymore to mount it. Those new feet that pop out are an improvement. Although, I still would much prefer a 1/4 tripod hole. I don't mind that the lens is a fixed piece of glass, although that seems to bother a lot of people. My only complaints would be 1) you still can't take a picture in 16x9 format. WTF????????? The door to get to the battery is harder to open than on the 7. The screen on the back is just too small. I wish the whole camera was like 1/2 inch bigger to allow for a bigger screen. Or keep it the same size and make the font bigger. Trying to cut the camera on or off can sometimes be ridiculously frustrating because of the water proof rubber seal around the camera buttons. I wish this camera came in two varieties. Waterproof and Water resistant. That would make the buttons a lot easier to press and allow for a better microphone. I'm still gonna give it 5 stars cuz this camera is amazing for the price.

Best action camera in 2019/2020
This is my first GoPro and I am super-impressed with the quality available in such an easy to use and rugged little tiny camera. It is just so "pocketable" it is insane how you can just pop it in a pocket and pull it out anywhere and anytime and suddenly start capturing super smooth hi-rez video with decent sound quality in seconds. Actually better than decent sound quality, everything except maybe hurricane-level winds sound awesome with very low/none wind noise at all. I did invest in some accessory mounts and can easily attach it to my mountainbike, electric scooter, helmet, or even chest mount or simply hold it in the hand while riding my Ranger X2 eskateboard and capture near-pro level footage in moments. Great action cam!

GoPro Hero 8 Black: w/UPDATE !!!
How did GoPro ever release this POS??? First time I used it for any length of time (at a local winery where our favorite band was playing), the damn thing crashed and locked up with the screen freezing... MULTIPLE TIMES!! The power switch will NOT function, nor does the start/stop switch. AND, it then gives an SD card error (SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro Micro SDXC 275MB UHS-II Class-10 U3 4K), telling me that the ONLY WAY to fix the card is by FORMATING, which will then erase ALL data! WTF GoPro??? Not wanting to loose all my data, I disregarded the FORMATING requirement, removed the battery, removed the SD card, then re-inserted both and voila... the Hero8 came back up WITHOUT formatting! That is until the next THREE TIMES this POS camera locked up again!!! Each time it locked up, the recording I received was a completely frozen still image, while the audio kept recording (and the audio recording is FAR INFERIOR to my old Samsung S7 phone!) PLUS... this camera has ANOTHER GLITCH... when held perfectly steady with the selfie stick's end set directly on our table, the damn thing will FLICK LEFT to RIGHT about one time every 10 seconds for NO reason (no movement of the stick occurred). What a mess. Go figure... Until these serious problems are (hopefully) solved, this camera is seriously a DNB (Do Not Buy). Hopefully, I will have a future update that solves this problem, or the Hero8 and ALL the accessories I bought (three extra "Hero8" Batteries w/one Dual Charger, lens protectors, storage case, SANDMARC Pole and more = $800+), will be returned to Amazon. What would YOU do??? PISSED OFF in SoCal... 11/15/19 UPDATE: As it turns out, for proper camera performance, you will need to update the original Hero8 camera's v00.15 software that's loaded from the factory which came with my Hero8, to the latest v1.20 to function properly (supposed to eliminate the Left to Right "image shake", and image Freezing/Lockup I experienced). It's a manual update that is very easy to do, and is easily downloaded from the GoPro website. If needed, simply "online chat" with the GoPro people and they will walk you through this required software update (which they did with me). No idea why my new Hero8 wasn't already loaded with v1.20, but that seems to be the case with most all of them (I suspect too early of a release). Ok... "so far, so good", and my rating goes from 1 star to 4 stars (if Amazon will let me increase my rating). The v1.20 software update seems to have eliminated the Left to Right "image shake", and image Freezing/Lockup problems I originally experienced. I performed a full one hour recording (one full battery), and there was NO image shake, NO lockup and NO image freezing. Seems all the Hero8 needed was this new v1.20 update and it was good to go. GoPro could have eliminated a LOT of complaints had they shipped the Hero8 with the v1.20 update, but as I said... this latest update may not have been available at the time of first release. Regardless, I feel the 10/31/19 release date should have been held back for a week or two until the original v00.15 could have been replaced with this new update. In any event, all seems well & good for now... until I get more recording hours on it!!!

Best GoPro I own
This is the best GoPro camera I own. I like it better than my GoPro MAX at this moment. The video's are smooth as they advertise. I put it on the El Grande pole and extended it out about 2' and the video comes out super smooth. It has taken some very good pictures too. I do not need a second one right now, but I will not have any problem with getting one again. I am not sure about the battery life as I just film 3-5 minutes here and there during my outing and the battery held up good for me.

This is NOT a scam product!
The GoPro Hero 8 Black is definitely the best GoPro out there on the market. The image stabilization in boost and even just normal is unbelievably superior to my iPad air's stabilization. The battery life, despite common misconceptions, lasts for up to ninety minutes after a full charge. I LOVE the way videos turn out and even just photos. The only cons to this camera are that it doesn't come with a micro SD card and it misses the mark when recording in dim light.

Full Featured Action Camera.
Quite rugged, this small camera has lots of needed features. The battery life is a little lacking but the camera will function with an external power source for those long slow-motion and time-lapse shots. Also, lens and screen covers are needed but not supplied. One of the best features for me is the ability to pair the camera to my smartphone with the free app available from GoPro. The phone can remotely control all settings and functions, including start/stop recording, firmware updates, and shutting down the camera.

Great little camera!!! Completely water proof. Battery doesn’t last much more then an hour. It’s a good idea to buy an extra backup battery

excelente câmera
Eu tenho a 7 e estava relutante em adquirir a 8, pois pelo que eu vi não tinha tanta diferença assim. Mas a câmera me surpreendeu. No geral estou adorando.
