DEWALT Mechanics Tools Kit and Socket Set, 1/4" & 3/8" Drive, SAE, 108-Piece (DWMT73801)

I’m extremely happy with this DEWALT mechanics tool set. Right out of the box, everything feels solid, well-made, and professional quality. The chrome finish is clean and smooth, the sockets are clearly marked, and nothing feels cheap or flimsy. The variety of sockets included is excellent. Having both 1/4” and 3/8” drive sizes with shallow and deep sockets covers almost every job I run into, especially for automotive work. I’ve already used it for basic maintenance, engine bay work, and interior repairs, and it hasn’t let me down once. The ratchets are one of the highlights. They’re smooth, sturdy, and have a nice tight mechanism that doesn’t slip under pressure. The direction switch is easy to use, even with greasy hands, and the grip is comfortable during longer jobs. The extensions and adapters lock in securely and feel just as strong. I also really like that this set includes bits and a screwdriver handle. Wow! such a beautiful set of tools, and I got them at a great price. Imagine going from some no name branch of sockets to these, like I did. It's a game changer. The quantity of ratchet teeth make it feels so much smoother than the old set I had with maybe half the quantity of teeth. That old set also had a ratchet direction switch that is plastic, and had recently broken, causing it to seem to be even less responsive when ratcheting any bolts or screws...so I am now feeling like any future socket tooling needs are going to be "fun" versus a chore. I know that sounds exaggerated, but I am actually looking forward to using them whenever possible. In fact, a recent garage ceiling rack that I put in using that old set, which made me feel the need even more to get this new solid set, I went out and tightened all the nuts/bolts with this new set just to try it out. LOL. It was like doing a "Home Depot dad" board game. It was a DIY guy's version of a little bit of fun. Silly, but true. One other thing, with my old set, it had a basic tool box that barely and very loosely held the sockets and the wrench in it, so they always fell out. With this Dewalt set, it it a lot more secure to hold each piece, BUT I can tell that pulling a piece or two out does loosen some of the other pieces very randomly, but not so hard to notice that and push them back in place before closing the tool box. It's not perfect, but it's a LOT better than my old, basic set.

I bought this on sale, first off. After receiving it, I went through it, and must say it's a really nice set. Comes with both Metric, and SAE sockets, and has both in Allen type hex wrenches as well. The storage container is ehh, but the set is perfect for my RV tool kit. It also comes with a screwdriver, and bit set. Overall it's a pretty nice set. My only, petty issue is the labeling of sizes. It makes them hard to see without taking them out to read it. Minor though, it's an issue for me.

Ordered this set for use on my vehicles. First project was replacing a water pump on my 1996 Bronco. Used the 1/4” and the 3/8” ratchets and shallow and deep wall sockets plus extensions. Removed and replaced everything from hose clamps to large bolts, and this set performed flawlessly. Feels good in the hand and has what you need. A big plus of this set is that the sockets are 6 point, as opposed to 12 as my old set was. The 6 point does a much better job of contacting the bolt head and allows for more force and less chance of rounding…a must when removing old bolts. Only nitpicks are there is no 1/2” deep wall for the 3/8 ratchet, and some of the pieces are very difficult to get out of the blown plastic case. The case is of decent quantity, however, and I’d rather the pieces stay in firmly than fall out when closed. Overall 4.5/5, would recommend.

I have been slowly replacing my older tools with DEWALT brand and the latest addition is 108 piece mechanics set which is exactly I need. I was looking for something compact that could cover wide variety of task including vehicle maintenance, household repairs and weekend projects without having to use multiple tools or sometimes reaching out to my neighbors. The set arrived neatly organized in the carrying case with two ratchets, 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch drive sockets, deep sockets, extensions, adapters, hex keys, and a bit driver set. I'm really impressed with the design because every piece has its own dedicated location. When I move the case around the garage or even turn it up side down, the sockets and tools stayed where they belong instead of scattering all over the place. Using the ratchets is straightforward. To attach a socket, I simply match the correct drive size, align the square opening on the socket with the square drive head on the ratchet, and press it into place until it seats securely. Removing it is just as easy especially the heavier/bigger drive, just press the button(not a button though) and the drive will simply fall out. The ratchets include a direction switch that allows me to change between tightening and loosening without removing the socket. The smaller 1/4 inch ratchet works well for smaller fasteners and tighter spaces, while the 3/8 inch ratchet provides more leverage for larger bolts. The included extensions are useful when a fastener is recessed or difficult to reach. The adapter also allows me to use different socket sizes when needed. I recently used the set for replacing a battery on my vehicle and replacing a garage door opener(there is a horizontal beam above it making it impossible to open few nuts) and having both SAE and metric sizes saved time compared with trying to find individual tools. My only minor complaint is that the plastic case feels lighter than the tools themselves and some pieces can require a little effort to remove because they are held tightly. However, I prefer this over a case where everything falls out during transportation. Overall, this DEWALT mechanics set has become a must have for any DIYer or a professional which provides a wide range of commonly needed tools in one organized case.
