Is the ehaust port 8"? I need to know how big of layflat ducting I'll need.

It is 7 1/2. An 8inches duct would work as long as you have a clamp.

We have massive fires in our area in Colorado, would this unit be good for taking airborne smoke out of the interior of our homes?

i have not used it to treat smoke. however, it is a very powerful unit and it takes paint smell out of the house completely the same day that i painted. i can only assume that it will remove any smell. good luck.
