Two & Three Part Inventions

I loved his playing, since he is my favorite pianist for Bach; however this CD has annoying background noise, not his humming which I am used to hearing in his other performances. What is that noise? Possibly LP was copied to CD?? That is the only reason I give one star!!!

Gould shows these tradtional pieces played by every serious piano student can be interpretted more than one way. Some that are usually played very fast, he plays slowly, and some that are usually played fast, are played really fast - as though with super human ability. He uses legato on some that often are played stacatto, and others that are usually legato are played stacatto. An old recording that is still fresh and imaginative.

Glen Gould, eccentric, introverted, unorthodox in every way, was one of the world's premier interpreters of Bach's keyboard works. His Goldberg Variations (both versions) are legendary in the history of recorded classical music. This album of Bach's Two and Three Part Inventions is no less remarkable, for the crystalline precision of the execution, the warmth and feeling Gould conveys, and the superb sound quality of the recording.

I have been a Gould listener for many decades. The artist never disappoints. Something about Gould's interpretation of Bach is timeless and unmatched. I also have a fascination for his quirky personality, the multiple postmortem theories about his talent and alleged afflictions/peculiarities. It was said of him "That genius is a nut".

It doesn't get any better than this!

I'll have to check my music for tempo but a couple of these inventions are played so quickly they are but a brief flash of perfection.

One can tolerate Glen Gould's grunting and groaning throughout, as his interpretation of the Bach inventions is outstanding. However, despite Sony's reputation the recording is flawed. The first track (Invention 1 in C major) has a "tic-tic-tic" for the first few bars that is unacceptable. Amazon very kindly replaced the disc free of all charges, including freight, but the replacement had the same flaw. I noticed that the disc played OK on my computer so I tried burning a copy. Lo, it was fine on my hi-fi gear so that solved the problem. But take care; why should we have to go to the trouble to make allowances to fix a technical fault when we are paying good money for a faultless one?

Delightful Bach and Gould in all regards despite some small retakes which ads to the authenticity of the great Bach interpreter - will he ever be matched?

輸入版と日本語版でこれほど値段が異なるとは！私は新品を購入したので綺麗なのは当然ですが、輸入版には新品でも破損があると思ったのですが、無くてよかったです。内容的には申し分ありません。ただ、順番がインベンション→シンフォニアの同一調で進んでいきますのでインベンションのみ、シンフォニアのみ、を順番で聴きたい人は操作がやや面倒かもしれません。

大人になってからピアノを習い始め、バッハに憧れ、このCDを購入しました。グールドのピアノをきちんと聴いたのは初めてで、みずみずしくて、素晴らしい。思わずニンマリしてしまいます。

LPのジャケットをCDにも用いている２００７年発売のGOULD JUBILEE EDITION に属するもの。音質は大変立派なもので、クリアーで、低音、中音、高音のバランスが取れた自然な音で、中高音から低音へ音の幅が広がった感じの、弾力性のある柔らかい音である。国内盤の高機能録音など全く必要なしのハイレベルな音質。演奏は、聴衆の為でなく、まして演奏者の為ではない。作曲家の魂の再現というのが一番近いと思う。グールドは、この練習曲を、曲の順番を変えたりして、実に静謐で芸術の薫り高い演奏である。グールドはこの演奏で、最早バッハの魂としか語り合っていない。一音一音に魂が込められており、祈りのようでさえある。他のバッハの曲もそうだが、この曲では特にそれを感ずる。そこには、コンサートを行わなくなったことと相通ずるものがある。グールドの演奏は、淡々と弾いているようでいて聴けば聞くほど味わい深く、自然で温かい音である。一番の美点は、どんなに美しい曲でも甘ったるくならないということである。甘ったるい演奏は聴くに堪えない。グールドのバッハの中でも名盤中の名盤で、この静謐さと芸術の薫りに溢れた演奏が大好きである。これも、グールドの天才的な運指と繊細なタッチによる明瞭な音とリズムがあればこそであり、他のピアニストの及ばざるところである。ちなみに、グールドのバッハはみな名演奏であるが、敢えて、私の好きなベスト４を挙げるとすれば、「パルティータ」「イギリス組曲・フランス組曲」「インベンションとシンフォニア」「平均律」である.
