I’ve been working on home wiring projects for a while now, and this Amazon Basics Self-Adjusting Wire Stripper quickly became my favorite tool. The first thing I noticed was how solid it feels in my hand — the build quality is impressive for the price, with sturdy metal jaws and comfortable, grippy handles that don’t hurt my hands during longer sessions. I think one reviewer said not well built for a contractor type work. Maybe so but I found it to be well made, sturdy and easy to use. I had a very small and fine wire that had been chewed through. I had to cut, strip and then splice them together. Using the tool it was easy to adjust and stripped the small wire perfectly. I think it is a great buy.

I have used every function these strippers have to offer and I'm really happy with it. My one gripe is that it seems to slip on some wires which requires me to hold the gripping jaw closed with my free hand. This design allows you to strip wires quickly, and the guide allows you to quickly set the depth. I do worry about the quality of the red adjustable stopper because it's plastic and sometimes it gets in the way. That can be resolved by unlocking it and extending it outwards. A few times, a piece of insulation gets stuck in the inner workings and stops it from functioning, but you can tip it over and the loose piece will fall out. Otherwise, the build quality feels great. It's sturdy and the handle design that includes various sized crimpers has proven to be handy. I can't attest to the longevity of the blades, but I'm sure they'll last a while.

I'd never used a wire stripper in my life, had to pop onto YT for a super short tutorial, this worked exactly as it should. Easy to use, of substantial weight. Great tool. 4 stars, because it did fray the wire a smidge when stripping and it took a bit of fiddling to get it adjusted just right, but it wasn't a big deal!! Easy to do!

The crimping don't work because the two handles are folding or sliding past each other instead of cri.ping towards each other. The actual jaws for stripping doesn't grab the wire, you have to push them down manually from the top in order to force them to grab the wire.

Why anyone would use the older style wire strippers is beyond me. Easy and reliable.

Auto wire stripper seems functional and will definitely be adequate until I decide I need a nicer one(coming from a LOT of use on some *ok quality normal-type wire strippers). The crimp tool however is awful in some situations. Writing this review a couple days after receiving but the first crimps I did turned out fine although they were a little awkward but the ones I attempted today were painful and are still not proper, even after multiple tries. The crimp tool shape seems less refined/maybe weaker materials compared to my ENGINEER PA-20(used for crimping much smaller wires) but in short, I purchased this tool because my big-wire crimper was cheaply made and didn't perform well and now I still need to purchase another crimp tool for bigger wires.
