2012 debut studio album by Hawkwind Light Orchestra Stellar Variations showcases Hawkwind founding member Dave Brock, long serving stalwart Richard Chadwick and sharp, bright blade Niall Hone's collection of music forged as a by-product of the tyranny of distance. The material features typical Hawkwind themes of otherworldly splendor and strange, glistening, aural landscapes. There are futuristic prophecies, animalistic war chants, stellar peace hymns and an ongoing self-referential opera. Stellar Variations is the sound of three music-nauts firing on all cylinders and is an essential album in the Hawkwind canon. Review: This is Hawkwind.. - While they are calling themselves Hawkwind Light Orchestra, it must be only in respect to the amazing Mr Dibbs not being on the credits, as this is as much a solid "Hawkwind" CD as the previous three. Highly recommended to all fans of space, rock and spacerock. Don't be put off by the band name,, this is the real deal. Review: Excellent Listening - This is an excellent listen and completely different from ONWARD and BLOOD OF THE EARTH (both of which did not really do much for me). This is more down the line of the Dave Brock "Solo" efforts and of course his White Zone by Pyschedelic Warriors. A must for fans!!

Great reminder
I thoroughly enjoyed this album. It was a great reminder of the Hawkwind I used to listen to quite regularly. I will have to dig out all of the great albums they have done and get into them again!!

Hawkwind Rides Again
A good standard Hawkwind, you can hear echoes of previous musical themes, with new ventures mixed in. This one seems to take the idea of 'visitors' with a jaundiced eye. Not something I'd pick for someone who's never heard Hawkwind before; but for those who have, a good piece to put in your collection.

Hawkwind Light Orchestra great Hawkwind album
Great Hawkwind music but still fresh sounding without being retreads of older songs. I've enjoyed Hawkwind since the first album and continue to enjoy them after all these years.

A forgotten jewel?
This is a strange and otherworldly album. Sometimes there seems to be a theme about post-humans and the abandonment of a ruined Earth, and sometimes there are inspired electronic soundscapes that could be about anything or nothing. The use of synthesizers is astonishingly accomplished. This album just might fill your head with miracles, so, if Hawkwind is your thing, it deserves a proper listening-to.

a mix of classic psychedelia and space rock
At last the hawks have given us the a mix of their old style and new, the latest albums have been very synth based and tech compared to the old heavy space rock of years gone by tho to be honest i like 90 percent of their material and this is no exception. very very acid rock in places and could probably tip some poor sod over the edge and into orbit never to return.....especially cities of rust...excellent...love it.......whoever mixed this track knows psychedelia and those little sounds that set the mind racing into F.T.L. drive........only a few hawk members on this so dont expect tim or dibs on this...............bloody brilliant.onward flies the bird.
