EA FANBOYS need to chill
I'm reading a lot of "I'm going to definitely switch to Live this year." I've yet to see a legitimate gameplay footage to date, so I don't know why there's so much hype. I want to point out that I've been a Live fan up until 2007 and never looked back. Let's face it, if EA didn't monopolize NFL rights, they wouldn't last in football either. Now that I got my rant out of the way, I want to point out the obvious changes in nba2k14. I hear people complaining that it's the "same" thing as nba2k13." I hope everyone knows that in terms of graphics, this is the best current gen consoles are going to get. It has totally maxed out. With that said, these graphics are no slouch. In terms of gameplay, defense has been the biggest difference. Shot blocking, as advertised, has been improved drastically this year. Chase down blocks are more realistic relative to the player's ability. Interior defense plays a huge factor as well. Not as many easy uncontested lay ups under the basket. One thing I did notice right away was that transitions buckets did not come as easy. Man defense has definitely improved as well. It is much easier to shadow ball carriers and play tougher and intense defense. I didn't get much of the whole stagnant players sticking together. One thing that bugs the heck out of me is the ball sensitivity. I feel like every time I dribble into the paint or traffic the ball is constantly bouncing off other players' feet or bodies. It gets really frustrating navigating in the paint. I felt players lose control of the ball easier as well which is irritating. In terms of offense, one thing that I had to get used to was getting back to the shot stick. Spin layups, hop steps, and euro steps are all done through the shot stick. The euro-step and floaters/tear drops are no longer automatic. I'm not a huge fan of the "flashy" pass feature. I felt it was unnecessary and cheesy. It was not realistically accessible. I caught players doing behind the head passes all the way back to mid court and cross court. I would've like for 2k to somehow allow full control of bounce passes. It was not as easy to dunk. Because of the improved defensive mechanics, many players would adjust for layups instead of the dunk over the top, which I liked. So no more LeBron trucking his way to the basket dunking everything. All in all, it's a different game. It is not nba2k13 with new rosters, as every one is saying. The sooner people realize that 2k is focusing on the next-gen, people will appreciate NBA2k14 much more.

Not bad
Receiving the package? - The game comes in a nice regular shipping box. Once you open it, there is bubble wrap or from other reviews, something to hold it steady so nothing gets damaged. The game itself is brand new, just like if you were to open any other new game. Playing the game? - The game its self is really good. The game play flows thoroughly which makes it a lot of fun. It loads great in the beginning. The game modes are great. If you like to play offline, Association is pretty good. My player is always fun because you just make your my player better by playing and adding his stats. And then there is LeBron. If you like LeBron, playing his story mode is fun. If you don't like him, I still suggest playing it because its interesting - If you like playing online, Team up is fun if you play with friends. If you don't, it is not as fun if you do not get the ball. Head-to-head is fun, you just have know how to play. And blacktop. That requires a My player. If your player is not good enough, you might not like it at first. But it is all about making your My player better. Overall.... - Everything is great depending on your likes. It does not freeze, And if you have a bad connection, It will frustrate you online. Overall, it is really good. 4-5 stars*

Great game - not perfect but a lot of fun...
Pros: Good Graphics - sweat looks like sweat, skin looks like skin, the game looks like the actual game. MyCareer - Although the voice options are limited (I don't want to sound ghetto or ghetto-er), I actually kind of enjoy the silly dialog. The game is a lot more immersive due to the random convos from players and coaches, as well as your agent. Offense - Once you figure out the controls you can do pretty well, even with an entry level player with no VC spent. If you drop some $ on VC though it makes the game more enjoyable... which is also a CON. I am sick of paying for a game and then feeling compelled to pay more money to get the most out of said game. Gameplay - This game succeeds at making sure you play the game as it was meant to be played. Don't try and be the only man on the court or you will fail. If you distribute the ball and play smart, you will get plenty of chances to shine and will gain the respect of your teammates. Over all this game is extremely fun, and I have a hard time putting the controller down. Cons: Defense sucks. Normally not peoples favorite part of the game, 2k isn't helping things at all. It's hard to maintain position, and guarding even 'sucky' offensive players can be challenging. They could take me to the rack 75% of the time. The offensive players feel like they have a forcefield around them and they are covered in vegetable oil to boot. The best option is to play the lanes but don't sag off too much because they will drain the open shot. The only plus side to defense now is steals... they require some thought now and are much more rewarding. Assists - Maybe it's just me but my shooting guard gets twice as many boards as he does assists. It's an ongoing joke that my passes actually lower my teammates shooting % because even though the pass could be right on the money, they still find a way to miss the shot. Even layups. Even open layups. But... they will then proceed to get their own rebound and jam it or lay it up. I'm just sitting there like "wtf man, my assist." I could have 12 passes leading to points and only 3 assists. It happens regularly. Defense again - Who the heck designed the little coverage arrow thing? Transition defense sucks because it will literally tell you to guard everyone on the opposing team, depending on who is furthest away. This affects your rating because no matter who scores it was YOUR MAN and you ALLOWED INSIDE PASS and you also ALLOWED PLAYER TO SCORE. "wtf man, my ratings" Sorry it's international caps day. It's just frustrating playing the best you can in a given situation and then getting punished for it. Illegal Screen - Anyone who played 2k14 will know what I mean when I say that Illegal Screen is the new Kicking... It gets called at least 8 times per game on 12 minute quarters. There are plenty of cons, but don't let that fool you. The Pros outnumber the cons by a long shot, I am just too lazy to list every little thing. I would buy again.

LeBron James has terrible taste in game music
Essentially NBA2K14 is NBA2K13 with new rosters and UI Graphics. And a terrible soundtrack filled with slow songs that are better for a high school couples dance than a basketball game. There are some marginal improvements in passing and some new Signature Skills, which forces you to re-learn many of the commands that most players are familiar with in NBA2K games for the past few years. This was problematic at first but with time you become more accustomed to the new layout. MyCareer starts on Superstar mode instead of Pro. This ups the ante and makes it seem a lot tougher than it has in years past. Pass interceptions seem to be tuned up, so no more averaging 20+ assists by face rolling your controller. The new passing interface is still a little tricky for me but I'm seeing some cool features. Online Association no longer allows coach mode. Which is great for players, but bad for some types of hardcore sim leagues since those servers for prior years games go down so soon after the release of a new title. And no keeper mode was included, which would have been nice. MyTeam has moved to a booster pack only system of accruing new players. Either buying players on the market has been disabled in order to front load VC purchases, or this new system will be persistent. You cannot make money buying low and selling high like you could in NBA2K13. As of today, October 3rd 2013, its a pay to win gameplay component. LeBron's Journey Pre-order Gameplay is basically situational gameplay, like reliving the last quarter of the Finals against San Antonio, going through free agency and then playing MyCareer mode as LeBron on a new team. The animations they made for cut-scenes looked like they were procured from some kid in a garage hired on Craigslist. MyCareer: No more Doris. (Doris is now back as of patch on 10/4/13) No more coaches comments. No more 3rd quarter review. No more end of game highlights review. New scouting reports on your cover guy before you enter the game. New interface for grading is terrible. Thin pinstripe progress bar is hard to see and not as satisfying. You also get called for blocking if you force the ballhandler into a backcourt violation which really chaps my hide. Ball security is super highly important unless you like being pawed like a stripper at a full nude dance club. In all honesty, I play NBA2K probably 90% of the time I play on my console. It's like my Call of Duty, Madden or HALO. I really do not feel this title is worth the $60 I paid. I'm just one of those guys that needs to have his NBA2K and pre-orders the second it is available. If you play this game casually, wait till it drops to $30 and then pick it up. No use rewarding 2K for re-skinning last year's game and calling it "new".

Great Game
This game is crazy fun. My MyCareer file corrupted which was the only downside because I spent a lot of time making him unstoppable. The LeBron Path to Greatness was a great addition to the game but the Rally The Troops game is a little bit too hard and extremely frustrating. Player ratings aren't really "updated." How is Derrick Rose like a 92 but Steph Curry is only an 89? Kevin Love has a lower rating than Kyrie Irving? It's a little inaccurate. MyTeam was something I never got into but it is well made and fun if you can get a decent team. Overall you're probably gonna have the most fun with MyCareer and LeBron PTG so play those

Don't listen to haters who can't handle the new controls
And for those of you who don't like the controls, you can go back to the 2k13 control scheme if you want. But you do that, you'll be limited to the things you can do with the new control moves. I admit. it really was hard for me getting it down. But after about 3 games or so, I was doing my spin and crossovers in no time. The game feels so much more polished than 2k13. The blocking, the rebounding, everything feels so much more organic and stellar. I have no regrets spending 60 bucks on this. Any self righteous fan of the NBA can't look away, get this game now. It's the best sports game on the planet. It's only downer is the missing legends and no Team USA or Dream Team. Also missing like in 2k13, like Jabar, Webber, Dr. J are still missing and there are no new legends. Barkley is also missing from the game. Fans of classic players will be missing them.

just hold on to your 2k13.
This is a really poorly made game. Too many times computer players will HOLD the ball until 2 seconds left on the shot clock then throw it up for a basket. Other times computer players don't take advantage of wide open shots, passing opportunities, etc, all because they rather stand there & hold the ball. This creates a situation where the opposition team can score a whole 22 points by halftime...on All Star difficulty. LeBron mode is creative but a letdown. Added European league players but couldn't update gameplay. Players still act like they're on skates instead of shoes. Oh, and the dunk contest in association mode? If you enjoy guitar hero, you'll enjoy it. If you enjoy basketball videogames with a dunk contest, you may not like it. I've been playing this series since 2k8 but I imagine this will be my last. If you can get this game for under $30 it should be ok, but $60 is a bit much.
