Schwalbe Marathon Wired Tyre with Greenguard

Love how they have it in 27" so I can put nice puncture-resistant tires on my vintage road bike (Raleigh Grand Prix made in the 1970s) after the old gumwall ones started cracking. Most varieties of tires are only available in 700C so the best tires I can find for my 27" are these. My only gripe is that they only come in 1 1/4" which seems a bit too wide. They're heavier than other tires I've seen and I do notice an increase in rolling resistance but I'm a commuting cyclist, so I'd rather sacrifice speed for reliability and confidence. These give a good grip on the road under most conditions and offer puncture resistance to ensure that I won't get a flat and become stranded in the middle of nowhere. They're not as quiet and smooth as the Serfas Survivors I've had before but they're more cushiony. The reflective siding makes me feel better when I ride home at dusk. The tyres are very tight, hard to install but I think they're worth the effort. These feel durable and I think I won't have to take them off for a long long time. Wish the other Schwalbe puncture resistant tires come in the same size. 3 month update: I haven't repumped them since installation and I'm happy to report that I haven't had a single flat! Granted, most trips I make are <3 miles and on well-paved surfaces but I think being able to survive for that long with no mishaps is a testament on its own. I love these tyres!

I'm going into my 3rd winter season with this tire now. I can't recommend it enough. I ride throughout the winter, often in some of the worst weather conditions. I used to take a lot more falls on my bike before I had these tires. I've hit some slippery patches, but I don't think I've actually fallen off my bike at all since I started using these tires. As far as flats go: I've had these tires on my bike for more than 2 years now (which is a pretty dang long time for a single set of tires), and I've gotten 2 flats. One was from glass. I could tell when I changed it that the piece of glass had taken a while to work its way through. I also found a lot of other pieces of glass in the rubber that never made it through the liner (spent some time picking them all out with tweezers, just in case). The second time was a nice sized staple in the road. You can have all the liners you want, but something like that is definitely getting through if you hit it at the wrong angle. I fixed it both times, and the tire has gone strong since then. Other tires I had in the past would get flats all the time. I even tried adding a liner between the tire and the tube in an older set of tires. Glass still got through, and it just made the tires heavy. These are pretty lightweight. They won't protect you against every flat (if you start riding over nails, they're gonna make it through), but it can protect better than most. So, in summary, I've gotten very good traction with these tires in slippery conditions (still gotta watch out for that black ice, but I've been surviving so far!), and have had pretty good protection against flats. After more than 2 years, they're starting to show some wear, so I'll probably be buying the same ones again! :-)

I bought these tires after 5 flats from the gum wall Kenda tires after 200 miles on them. I know they are expensive compared to cheap tires, but you get what you pay for here. Flat prevention liners, highly reflective sidewalls (see photo), pretty good street tread. I use this bike as a car replacement. I am a city rider with all that entails, plus I pull a cargo trailer about 30% of the time. Yes, this is an ebike about 65.lbs, 260 lbs. with me on it before cargo. These tires are heavier than standard, I can feel the difference. A little less nimble than before. Schwalbe tires are worth every penny, for flat prevention, durability, and yes riding comfort. Most of all, peace of mind. No, I'm schill for Schwalbe tires, I went through 4 sets of cheap and not so cheap tires in the last 1.5 years. I don't give good reviews unless it's a very good item. These tires were harder to mount than the more flexible sidewall brethren. If your not comfortable with installing them yourself, take to a shop.

I had two flats on an urban ride recently and decided I needed more puncture resistant tires. I did more research on trekking tires than I should probably admit, and I whittled down to the Marathon HS and the Marathon Mondial. I chose the HS and I am very happy with them, especially for the price. They roll well and seem to be bulletproof. The trade off for this extra flat protection is increased weight, which was immediately noticeable when I changed from the Maxxis tires I was running. I have these on a steel 1990 Trek 970 that I use for urban rides and to pull a child trailer, so I’m not too concerned about the added weight, but if you are counting grams, look elsewhere. While I am satisfied with these tires, I will probably buy a set of Mondials to try just because I am curious to see if they are worth the extra money.

The tire performs well in rain and dry riding. I ride hard and I'm 200 lbs and the tire wears well. I don't seem to have as many flats with this tire, however I did have a small piece of rock pierce the tire and green band and cause a flat and broke two of the tire cords. I put in a new tube and hot patched the tire on the inside while waiting for a new tire from Amazon and the tire only lasted 60 miles before coming apart and bulging out and I wasn't able to ride for a few days until my new one came in. I was suprised that the tire came apart so quickly? All in All this is a good tire, I see no need to upgrade and spend more money. I rode 2800 miles in the last year and only had two flats and ruined just one tire.

I use these on my tadpole trike. Easy to change....20".....not sure why others are having issues as I didn't even need a tool to mount them. Getting them off the rim does require some technique.....I did bend a single metal tire lever! But these have good puncture resistance and good rolling resistance. Not as puncture resistant as the marathon plus tires, but not as stiff and they ride well.

I tried out the two new tires and work uphills and climbing. I can speed 20 mph per-miles now. I recommend to this tires to anyone

I rode several more miles after noticing the green rubber tread-wear indicator showing through on these 5+ year old Marathons. That made it an easy decision to replace them with the same model. The price I pay for these tires is well worth it and the peace of mind that comes from the green wear feature makes them even better. I ride a recumbent tricycle on pavement and gravel and never need to think about traction. I also love the reflective banding on the tires that compliments the theme of retroreflective tape I use to decorate my ride. It looks super cool at night and stands out to keep me safe. I also have the 26" Marathon on the rear, as you can tell from the pic.

Have used these in several vintage Raleigh cycles over the years. Not only do they closely match the original Dunlop’s thin whitewall, they are a superior quality tire with puncture protection and last for years with proper care. Invest in them.
