Years of research lead me to this
I’ve spent years researching different sunrise alarm clocks after purchasing one that was awful. I researched the Philip’s alarm but ended up going with Lumie because of the warranty (Philip's has no backup battery and you can’t replace the bulb if it burns out). I was hesitant with the bad reviews on this alarm because people said it was extremely difficult to set up. I’m 24 and grew up with very simple alarm clocks so I can understand the simplicity of older clocks. This clock is very easy to set up if you take 3 minutes to read the directions. I was actually pretty angry knowing I spent so much time researching the set up issues people complained about just to receive the clock and follow very simple instructions to set it up. I had no issues. I’m assuming the people who are complaining about the set up either 1. Refuse to accept that clocks have a few extra sets nowadays (ya know, considering it has so many features unlike clocks 10/20 years ago) and adapt to new technology, which is fine, but don’t advertise that it is difficult or impossible to set up just because you refuse to accept it takes a few extra minutes. 2. They didn’t take 3 minutes to read the instructions to understand how to set it up and likely tried to do it without even opening the instructions which would obviously be hard since there’s too many features to simply use 2 buttons. It seems like there is a lazy generational gap here. If you are interested in this clock, please do not base your purchase off of the negative reviews regarding set it. My parents are in their 70s, one has never even owned a phone let alone knows how to upload photos onto the computer but they are both able to set the entire clock up in under 3 minutes. It really isn’t difficult. The instructions are right there and there is a YouTube video for people who are visual learners. This is an excellent alarm and well worth the money. I feel refreshed when I wake up instead of being jolted out of bed with my heart racing and nauseated because of it. I’m a night owl and this has completely transformed my mornings and has helped me start my day off on the best note. I couldn’t recommend this enough.

Cute, stylish, a worthy successor to my old Philips. Just wish the bulbs could be changed.
UPDATE: I don't understand why this gets such high ratings. Yes it dims and brightens well and the sounds are good but it's cray-making to set up and if you make a mistake you have to go back to the beginning and start over. PLUS for at least the last two years it's developed thus irritating habit of resetting itself as I'm in the middle of setting it, or just going blank, which means I have to reset it! Which means crawling around under the bed to unplug and plug it. And it's less than five years old!!! I have an old Sunbeam that is about 30 years old that I use as a backup because once or twice this thing has reset itself in the night. I would never buy another Lumie. Original review: I’ve been looking for a replacement for my trusty Philips which suddenly disintegrated after 20 years of trusty service. I love it so far! It’s a little counter-intuitive to set up (why have the selection buttons on the opposite side to the “select” button) but I *think* I’ve done it. I guess I’ll find out as the week goes on. It is very cute and doesn’t seem to wake me at random times the way my new Phillips did. The sounds and the radio are good, too. Also a good bedside lamp, something else I was looking for. And a big improvement over the Lumie 250. You have to bang it pretty hard for the snooze to work.

No alarm sound required
Got this to help wake me up in the dark winter mornings. I really wanted a light alarm that absolutley didnt have sound. The brightness is nice and slowly gets you awake, but I am not a morning person. Luckily for me, it certainly works on my dog. Like a dual alarm system, she gets woken up and then begins pouncing, rolling, and laying on me. The functionality of the clock is OK. I was able to work out most of the features but it is a little clunky to set up. The clock is only in military time which is frustrating as an American and there isnt a way to just turn the light off (that I could find). Overall I do recommend this clock. Especially if you opt into the puppy pounce expansion.

Good wake-up light alarm clock
I preface this by saying that I have owned the Philips Wake-up Light alarm clock (2 versions). Both alarm clocks function similarly and I don't see a significant difference between the sunset/sunrise functionality. However, there are a number of things that I do like better about the Lumie alarm clock, that for me, make this a better alarm clock: 1) Overall shape/appearance -- The Philips alarm clock is much bigger. I like the size of the Lumie and it looks more like a normal alarm clock when placed on my nightstand. 2) Display -- While you can reduce the intensity of the display lights on the Philips light, the Lumie is not as bright and does go to "sleep" and the display turns off to avoid continued artificial light. I like this feature. 3) Buttons/settings -- I think it is much easier to find the correct buttons and set the time, etc. on the Lumie as compared to the Philips. In partiular, my main compaint with the Philips is the snooze button and off button. They are small buttons along the rim of the device and I have accidently turned it "off" when I wanted to have it "snooze". I wish that the750 version of the Lumie wake-up light was available in the US (I couldn't find a retailer that would ship to the US), because I would like to be able to sync it with a phone app and be able to play my own wake-up music. But in general, not a deal-breaker.

Not worth it.
I am shocked this is so bad for this price. You cannot change it out of military time. I had it set to waves and my husband asked “what’s that?” He even tell what the sound was. The speaker in the alarm sounds very cheap and the display looks cheap. The menu in the alarm I found is very confusing. You really have to study how it works to use it correctly. I don’t really need an app to use an alarm but the way the buttons function on this is not great. I will be returning. I feel it should not be priced as high as it is for what it does.

Alarm works well. It's bright enough to wake me up ahead of the alarm actually going off. If you read the manual, setting up the clock is easy, despite what other reviews say. The 24 hour format is appreciated.

Very cool clock. Not easy to use at first but if you take the time to understand the buttons, it will be well worth it. The sunset mode is really cool and quick to activate, plus the ambient sounds are plentiful and very calming

the light is very bright, and imitates the sunrise very well. the audio select is very good as well. My only complaint is, it is a little complicated to operate and takes time getting used to.

Beaucoup de fonctionnalités, fiable. Le bruit des oiseaux est superbe.

Lumie have managed to create an alarm clock with a fancy tap snooze sensor (on the lamp) which functions so poorly that after repeatedly hitting the lamp you will have woken up (annoyed and agitated!) defeating the object of snooze. The button position on the face of the clock means you are pushing horizontally and the feet do not grip sufficiently to prevent pushing the clock off your bedside surface - which is probably the best option for this clock.
