Best ice cream maker
I bought this for a gift for my daughter and she loves it. We tried this one and another brand side by side and this one worked faster and froze the ice cream better. It is easy to use, and simple to clean. I would totally recommend. We make ice cream a lot more often now because it’s so quick and easy. It shuts off by itself when the ice cream is done. It makes about 2 quarts of ice cream. For larger groups, just make it ahead and put it in the freezer. It stays pretty scoopable.

Top of the line in quality products and absolute best ice cream
Quality, well made, and beautiful and oh, so simple. We got it because we have diabetic friends who can't eat normal ice cream made with sugar. So we made ours with yogurt, whole milk, 1/2 cup xylitol, and pistachios, all of which are fine for those with diabetes and now they can join in. The taste was wonderful, aside from the way too much 2 T.s vanilla extract, and too much sugar for our taste buds. I poured them into 1 cup glass cups, lidded them, and put them in the freezer for later and they were the best we've had. No fructose corn syrup, no real sugar, no gums and odd gelatins and ingredients; organic yogurt, xylitol, and chopped pistachios. Not thinning exactly, but wonderful tasting and good for your health ice cream. I would strongly recommend this to all those who like the best ice cream.

Like a pro in a few minutes. ;)
Received this ice cream maker about 3 hours ago.In anticipation, I had already prepared 4 different flavors of frozen custard. However, it was still about 130 degrees and still cooling in the fridge. Not to be deterred, I liberated my new toy from its box, skimmed the directions, cleaned the bowl, dumped in about 6 ounces of still hot coffee flavored custard base ( I wanted to see how well it would make a single serving of ice cream) , turned it on, and waited. I watched the silky surface of the soon to be deliciousness as it churned. Mesmerized. My daughter asked if it was a good movie. I said it was good and did not have any commercials. She said, more like one long continuous commercial. Hint taken. I went to socialize. Seriously, just 27 minutes later and we were in ice cream glory. (ok, about 37 minutes if you include the liberation, reading, and cleaning.) From hot to frozen...lickety split! She got to have fresh made ice cream over her lunch break. She quickly assessed the recipe for what ingredients she needed to drop off to make more ice cream. I am guessing that is for ME to make her more ice cream. It took about a minute, or less, to wash the bucket. Then I dried it and replaced it in the machine. Wow. No ice. No salt. No mess. Tears of joy!Obviously, I am a novice with the machine since I have only had it a few hours. I can say that ease of use is phenomenal. Set it on the counter, clean the container and dry it really well before replacing it so it does not freeze in place, pour in ingredients, put lid on, and turn it on. Then wait. But not for long. Clean up is also a snap. It is very compact compared to what I had expected. I had visions of a monstrosity setting on my counter. It is big, but not obnoxiously huge. No more of a foot print than a kitchen aid mixer.Pros: has 3 settings1- making ice cream2- holding it at a cold temperature3-mixing ingredients for non cooked recipes (eggless ice creams, sorbet, margarita, slush,....etc.)quick set upuser panel is fairly intuitiveremovable container for easy cleanupnot terribly loud - also comparable to using a stand mixer noise level, not as loud as the ones with ice/salt neededable to make even a single serving -- I have glass jars with the flavored base ready in the refrigerator waitingable to make 2 quarts for when you need/want moreno foreign objects in my ice cream....the last time I used the salt/ice method, either the ice or salt must have had something in it and I coveredthe to top of the bucket with ice, salt, so I don't know, but all three flavors had shards of glass or plastic in them. Was not too happy. Allof my utensils and containers were metal. I am guessing the culprit was either the ice or salt. The end product did not taste salty, soprobably the ice. No idea. Or maybe the plastic paddle was chipping off. Just....grrrrrrrr. I have been glaring at that old churn fornearly a year and just decided the heck with it.cons: not sure yet. will use it a few times and let you know. I am interested in the design so far as cleaning up if your freezing container over runs.edit 8/2019 : if you make more than two batches in a row, it gets iced up. I now make two and then let it set for a couple if hours just because I do not want to risk breaking something. Better safe than sorry.hints: if you have a high powered blender, toss all of your ice cream ingredients in the container ( like making blender soups ) at once and blitz until you have a thick enough consistency. no scrambled eggs. no fuss. I just set my container on a scale and dump and tare as needed. Then I blitz it and pour into a jar and keep in the fridge. Or just pour it in the machine and make it right away.Have had this for a few weeks. LOVE it. The churn is not super fast, therefore the overrun is not particularly high. The end result is a nice, creamy texture for your final result. Clean up is super fast. I have not had any batches that have spilled into the cooling chamber. You would need to spend a bit of time cleaning that up since that chamber is not removable. Advice: don't do that.I generally do not care for things like chocolate icecream and chocolate cake. I find the flavor to be subdued and bland. Today I made some chocolate icecream that reminded me of a scoop I had in a historic area of Indianapolis when I was younger. All I need is some fudgey brownie chunks and it would have been perfection. It is super creamy and almost has the flavor of a dark chocolate pudding. I am sharing the recipe with you here. Note: I make all of my icecream using a vitamix. Super simple.Fudgey Chocolate Ice Cream4 egg yolks4 Tablespoons dark chocolate cocoa1 pinch sea salt3/4 cup white sugar1 tablespoon vanilla extract (imitation)1/8 teaspoon butter flavor1 cup heavy cream1/4 cup whole milk3 tablespoons corn syrup1/2 teaspoon unflavored gelatin powderPut all in Vitamix. Let the blender run until the ice cream base is steaming and just beginning to look like custard.About 7 to 9 minutes.Mix in fudge brownie crumbles after done churningEither spin the ice cream right away or store/chill in the fridge.Makes about a pint of ice cream.update 8/2019 : Still loving this item. We use it less often, but I still get short notice requests for icecream because everyone knows how quick it is to do now. Have made frozen coke, slushes, sorbet, and lots of icecream with this. Still a big thumbs up!Update: 3/2025Machine still going strong. Just made a batch if vanilla and a batch of chocolate. No commercial store bought icecream can come close to what you can achieve with this machine. So far my only bummer is that after two batches you need to give it a rest because it gets too cold. The metal bowl gets stuck frozen. Other than that, still loving this icecream maker after all these years. Today's batches are silky and just divine.June 25, 2025This machine is getting a workout. I have been doing 2 or 3 batches almost every week. What I have learned is that if you leave it on the chill setting after it completes the cycle, in just 20 minutes you might have hard pack icecream. LolSo the deal is we got a Creami. Love it. But, if you want ice cream right away this unit is a better choice. With the Creami you put the container in the freezer over night. Now....having said that, I take advantage of having both. When I have time I make the base and then just freeze it for the Creami. But what has been super handy is to make icecream with the Whynter and pack the leftovers in Creami containers. The combo is ridiculously convenient.

Very happy with ice cream maker
I found this machine by searching for something that I could use for more than just occasional ice creams, and I'm very glad I did. The machine is straightforward to use and works very effectively. I also appreciate the company that makes it (see below).Pros:- The 2.1 quart bowl easily handles 1 qt starting bases, so I don't have to stop the churn to avoid spill over.- I was able to start with a 1 qt recipe at ~60 degrees, and it completed churning in about 45 minutes.- The paddle can handle mix-ins without crushing them. I added broken up chocolate cookies and they mixed in without being broken into crumbs.- Easy to clean.- No complicated setup required.Cons:- Read the manual. There are some non-intuitive things that are clearly documented. For example, when running in any of the modes, you can return to the menu by holding the menu button for 3 seconds instead of hitting the power button twice. There was a problem with the machine when it arrived that caused the cooling to not work. The company stood behind their product and customer service worked with me to find a solution. I'd happily come back to this brand the next time I'm looking for this type of machine.Pictured is dark chocolate with chocolate cookies that my kids say turned out wonderfully.

Great product, delicious ice cream
I made my first batch of ice cream the day it arrived. Because it has a built-in compressor, not having to freeze the parts the night before is super convenient, allowing me to use the product whenever I want. The instructions were very clear and detailed, and therefore the product was really easy to use. It also comes with a recipe book for whole bunch of different ice creams and gelato. The set time to churnis 60mins and it’s actually a lot quieter than I thought. After 60mins, the ice cream comes out a bit soft but the machine has an option to freeze without churning. Compared to store bought ice cream, it tastes so much better - it’s creamier and smoother. Im excited to experiment with different ingredients in the future.

Works great, but not forever.
Right now the best combination of affordability and quality on ice cream makers. The main caveat is that I have found that all compressor ice cream makers at this level last about 2 years before their freezing ability slackens to too great an extent, including the Cuisinart, which is more expensive right now and was a previous purchase for me. In that time the container for the ice cream usually starts to leak, as well, regardless of what you do maintaining seals and tightening screws. I had the Cusinart for about two years. Done. Then this exact model for about two years. Done. Done like it only makes slush if you freeze for two cycles in a row done. But up until that time, this makes great ice cream! That time period makes sense for me so I keep buying. Cheaper than buying ice cream, and if you are sensitive to gums and thickeners, it is almost impossible to buy ice cream at the store. Of note, this unit (or similar to the one available when I bought it before) now has a stainless steel bucket inside, where previously it was aluminum. Theoretically aluminum should conduct better, but I haven’t noticed much drop off in speed, if any. And I would imagine that the bottom part will avoid leaks longer with this version, as steel is more durable than thin aluminum. I would love if these lasted forever, but I think it is well worth it even so.

A Game-Changer for Homemade Organic Ice Cream!
I recently purchased the Whynter ICM-200LS ice cream maker after growing tired of the expense and limited options of high-quality organic ice cream with clean ingredients. The lack of flavor variety and availability in stores pushed me to explore making ice cream at home, and I'm so glad I did!The built-in compressor is fantastic, especially for someone new to homemade ice cream like me. There's no need to pre-freeze bowls or plan ahead - I can make ice cream on a whim. We tried it out with a chocolate recipe, and I was blown away by the results. It far surpassed even the best commercial ice creams I've tried, both in texture and flavor. While we've only made chocolate so far, I'm excited about the possibilities this machine opens up. We're looking forward to experimenting with different ingredients and creating a variety of flavors that aren't readily available commercially. The control over ingredients is a huge plus, allowing us to keep everything organic and tailored to our preferences. The 2.1-quart capacity is perfect for us. We're only two people, but it certainly makes enough for us with plenty of leftovers. The LCD display and controls are straightforward, making the process easy even for a novice like me. Clean-up is also a breeze, which I really appreciate. One thing to note: when the ice cream is first done, it has more of a soft-serve texture. To get that true ice cream consistency, we put it in Anchor Hocking Glass 2 Cup Round Food Storage Containers and freeze it overnight. This extra step really perfects the texture. While some might consider the price a bit high, I see it as an investment in quality and health. We're actually saving money in the long run by making our own organic ice cream instead of buying the expensive store-bought versions. Plus, the joy of creating our own flavors and knowing exactly what goes into our desserts is priceless. If you're frustrated with the cost and limited options of high-quality, organic ice cream, I highly recommend giving this Whynter model a try. It's opened up a whole new world of dessert possibilities for us, and I'm excited to keep experimenting with new flavors and ingredients.A couple of small nitpicks: I do wish the paddle was metal instead of the current material. It would be a nice upgrade for durability and performance. Also our unit did not include an ice cream scoop. Despite these minor points, I'm still thoroughly impressed with this machine. In short, this ice cream maker has been a fantastic addition to our kitchen. It's perfect for health-conscious individuals or anyone looking to have more control over their ice cream ingredients without sacrificing taste or texture. Happy ice cream making!

Fast and easy frozen treats!
Love this machine. Simple plug in play use. Makes great ice cream. Kids enjoy making their own creations. I love being able to control ingredients. Easy clean up. Fun for parties. My only issue is that the can freezes to the machine and you can't get it out after chilling. I sprayed veg oil on the outside of the can which made it possible to remove. This original purchase didn't work/power up. However, I contacted the manufacturer. Their customer service was above and beyond. Made it right, No hassle, Highly recommend.

So happy with my purchase!
After almost a decade of using the freezer bowl style of ice cream maker, this machine is a delight. Heavy and bulky (as expected for something with a freezing unit in it) but quiet and effective. Noticeable improvement in the quality of the final product. Easy to assemble, use, and clean. I love being able to make multiple batches at once for layered or swirled desserts.Only downside is the paddle is annoyingly shaped and hard to scrape off completely. Lots of tight corners. But I think that's the case with most modern ice cream makers.

Definitely an Upgrade!
I used to have a cheap ice cream maker, the one where you put the bowl in the freezer and have to wait a whole day to make ice cream and that’s if you remember to put it in.This ice cream maker is a dream! Just literally make your base, set it to ice cream and press start! We made Coconut Ice Cream. It was so good, great texture and good recipe. If you’re thinking about an ice cream maker, this one will sure not disappoint.
