Jim Dunlop Black Pickholder

It never ceases to amaze me when something so inexpensive and seemingly simple can have such a big impact. I was forever losing picks. I would find myself on stage fumbling in pockets, or appealing to other musicians in the audience to save me from my disorganization and forgetfulness, but no more! The Jim Dunlop Black Pickholder is stuck firmly and securely on the face of my guitar and now I always have a pick ready to go whenever I need one. it has stayed stuck on despite my guitar almost daily being put in and out of its gig bag. It easily holds the over-sized Clayton picks that I sometimes used, or the small standard size Tortex ones I also favor. I will never be without this pickholder.

These Dunlop pick holders are great, and this new one seems to be as good quality as my old one. I've had the old pick holder on my acoustic for years and it seams as good as new. It holds multiple picks, and the spring-depression plate design make it easy to remove the top pick without all the others trying to come along. This does require you to stick the pick-holder to your guitar with a piece of attached foam tape, so if you are worried about having a permanent object attached to your guitar and it ruining the surface if you try to remove it, this may not be for you. That didn't bother me because my guitars aren't $1000+ instruments, so for me it was perfect. That being said, this holds picks securely enough that someone could potential attach this somewhere on their guitar strap (I can't guarantee the foam tape stick well enough for this, so don't quote me on that) and the picks would still stay put.

I've had these off and on through the years -- they're a great solution to a problem most performing guitarists have. You drop your pick in the middle of a gig or a song, and you don't have the time to go fishing around on the floor to find it. Yes, you'll recover it later, but in the meantime you need something with which to play the guitar. Stick this guy on the back of your guitar's headstock and fill it with your favorite picks. It doesn't hold a ton of them, but I've found I can fit four or five (maybe six?) dunlop .88's in mine, which is more than enough for my purposes. There are other solutions to the problem of pick loss mid-gig, but I haven't found one that I like more than this one. I know where my picks are, they aren't visible to anyone but me (so no issues of theft or whatever), and it's an area of the guitar I'm not going to bump by accident. That's what I don't like about the microphone-stand pick holders. Also, not all guitarists do backing vocals, and not all gigs have microphones. This is a good, low-tech, flexible solution to a common guitar player problem. I recommend.

Better than those cheap non spring loaded pic attachments. has double sided tape and will hold a bunch of pics. Sticks well to the tail end of your guitars.

These little things are great. I have three amps, and I stuck one of them on the backside of each amp. They are small and black and they just kind of disappear when you stick them to the metal on the back of the amp. Totally discreet. But great to know that there is always a stash of picks in your secret spot. The adhesive is good. Bonds tightly. But when I had to remove one it came off easily as well, and didn't leave a residue. Any drawbacks? Not really, but you should be aware that if you want to store more than one type of pick (thickness and size), this won't be very convenient. You'd be better off getting a separate one of these for each pick type. At 2 dollars each, you can probably afford to wallpaper your practice studio with these things. Your pick shouldn't be any bigger in diameter than the standard Dunlop or Fender medium (like those giant triangle picks would be too big), but that's obvious from the picture.

I have one of these on each of my guitars. It's great to have a pick handy or readily stored when you switch to fingerstyle. These are a "must have" in my playing. They're inexpensive and indespensible! Get one! I'm sure you'll agree.

Great idea, great execution. Price is right, feels durable, holds 3-4 large triangle picks (Master 8 Japan Large Triangle, 1.0mm) comfortably. It would be nice if it came in other colors, though, like white, or maybe even clear could be cool.

I have a tendency of getting into whatever song, then dropping my pick and then I end up just fingerpicking the bass until I get to my amp to grab another pick but then I decided to take chance and try one of these and it has changed my world!! Convenience of having a pick stuck on your instrument is priceless! Stick this thing on fill it up some picks and you are good to go.
