Vac/mulch works great!
I used the B&D blower/vacuum/mulcher today for the first time, to clean up the leaves in our back yard. Our yard is roughly 1500sf and we have two big trees that dumped about 2/3 of their leaves that I needed to pick up. The wind was very strong last night, so it took care of gathering the leaves into a few main areas in the yard so I just had to vacuum them up. I did not use the blower function this time, only the vacuum/mulcher. It worked great! I was so pleased with the suction power, much more than I was expecting. I did use it on the high seeing the whole time. It was able to make quick work of piles, as well as picking up the leaves that had been walked on and smashed into the grass. It comes with a strap that clips onto the machine so you can put it across your shoulder/chest so a lot of the weight is on your shoulders and not on your arms. It's easy to maneuver and lightweight to start out. However, as you vacuum up the leaves, the collection bag gets heavy, so you then start to feel the weight. Nice thing is, the collection bag is very easy to snap on/off, and the zipper to empty it makes it easy to do so, as frequently as you need to. I picked up all the leaves in the back yard, emptied the collection bag 5 or 6 times, and it all mulched down to fit into a 40 gal contractor bag. Awesome! Thank you to another reviewer who warned of the dust from the collection bag. I heeded that warning and wore a mask, and it was very much needed. If you don't wear glasses you may consider wearing some goggles or safety glasses too, to keep the dust out of your eyes. Fair warning, you will get very dirty running the vac/mulch, so just plan on having to change your clothes and shower afterwards. A small price to pay for this machine that does a great job. I would highly recommend this B&D blower/vacuum/mulcher.

Powerful, effective and smart
I just purchased this blower/vac because my trees have been dumping leaves into my ivy and other plants, as well as my lawn all fall. Now that it is winter I want to clean the place to make room for new growth. It arrived and I immediately put it to work...for an hour of vacuuming leaves, twigs and spike balls. It was powerful and effective. I quickly filled the bag, emptied the bag, filled the bag, emptied the bag, etc. until my city trash container was full. Each time I emptied the bag it was easy to push the button that disconnected the bag from the tool, unzip the end, and dump the leaves. Sooo easy! As I was nearing the end of the job, the vac just stopped! Nothing I did would get it going again, even checking all connections. I was sooooo disappointed that this amazing tool died. I read the manual that was tucked inside the box and a remedy listed was to wait 15 minutes.... What a smart tool! Sure enough, it started right up after I waited the suggested amount of time! Smart that it has a built in shut-off so it doesn't get overheated and really die! I love this tool!

Mulches to small chunks!
I moved somewhere with a lot of trees and my property is positioned in a way where it creates a bit of a vortex. Combine that with frequent strong winds and I end up with huge piles of leaves in just a few hours in the fall. I had leaves up to my knees in my basement walkout area! I wasn't going to have a repeat of my first winter here last year. Besides mulching leaves on my lawn with my mower, I raked and filled several contractor size bags last year. It was ridiculous and I knew there must be a better way. I then found this vacuum and mulcher, which I didn't even know existed until I started searching on Amazon. One feature on this vacuum model made me choose it over others by Black+Decker. That was the metal mulching blade. I was worried a plastic mulching blade would not hold up to small rocks being sucked up, which does happen from time to time since I have small lava rock in planters. I occasionally hear the sound of small rocks bouncing off metal blades and I cringe. I try and shut off the vacuum, but the small pebbles often make it into the bag before I can get to the power dial. I kind of wish this just had a power trigger that I could quickly release, but it is not a big deal since I like not having to keep pressure on a trigger. The power dial is also convenient if you need to dial down the suction. I go full speed all the time and just raise it up a bit higher if vacuuming over rock. The first time I used this vacuum I was immediately pleased with my purchase. Once the bag got a bit heavy, I opened it to see that the leaves were mulched to very small pieces. I spread this mulch over a dirt area at the top of a retaining wall so it can breakdown over the winter and hopefully prevent weeds. I then plan to spread more wildflower seeds in the spring. I was also able to sprinkle it over my lawn and have it fall between grass blades. Free fertilizer by next spring. The one thing keeping this vacuum from getting five stars is the bag. The shoulder strap is terrible. It is thin, not comfortable, and does not stay on my shoulder very well, and too short to wear like a sling. I mostly wrap the shoulder strap around one of my hands instead of putting it over my shoulder. Some reviewers recommended getting the trash can attachment, which I may do next year. I am a little hesitant because I need to move around the house and go into my basement walkout area. It would not be convenient to drag a trash can down there. I love this vacuum and I have not bagged or even thrown away leaves this year. I also have one of the cleanest yards in the neighborhood. I find myself vacuuming up leaves off my neighbor's property since I want more mulch (and I don't want the wind blowing the leaves into my yard).

Good tool
Bought it to replace my old one that died. Seems to have the power to do the job on leaves this fall.

Great Blower Vac but....
This thing work great as a vac, blower is ok but I already have another blow that works a bit better. If you use for drying cars off it works great for that. As a vac this thing is awesome, it sucks up leaves and sticks, and leaves the rocks alone. It will also suck up loose dirt. I don't recommend using on wet leaves though because it starts to get pack in there but cleaning it out is easy. The only pain about this is after using it a while and the bag fills up it gets heavy so long term use can be straining but If they made a back pack style bag that would be awesome. It mulches wonderfully as well. Talk about some quality mulch hell yeah brother

Ran for 5min. Dead.
Leaf vacuums are as a class, garbage. If you need to vacuum leaves, you will get far better results using ANY other kind of vacuum than a vacuum supposedly design for it. In 25yrs, this is the 3rd one I have been blessed with. Someone trying to be helpful gifted it to me w/o asking first, because they know I process a lot of leaves each year. (Have a lot of mature maples.) Already have a fantastic cordless blower so maybe this can at least be a decent corded backup blower. Then I decided this spring it could be used to (hopefully) remove and mulch debris where the mower can't go. Gave it a go jutst now and it was just as pathetic as past "vacuums" have been. Have to pick thing up by hand and spoonfeed them into this things maw. Should just use the shopvac or blow the stuff out into the yard ... And then, after less than 5min, it dies. I checked the power, I check the cord, every thing's fine. AS vacuum that can't even suck also m,anages to have crap internal wiring. YGBFKM. It took longer to smash this thing and separate it into scrap and recyclable materials than it ran. TL;DR ... don't even bother, even if it's a "gift."

This country girl LOVES this thing
I own a small retail shop that sits in a cut-out of a mountainside, literally. There are bankings on three sides with about five feet of flat ground around the store on the sides and rear. Leaves pile up in there, sometimes two feet deep, and trying to rake them out, all the way around to the front was such a pain. I borrowed one of these from a friend in 2018 and was amazed at how it picked them up and mulched them, making it easy for me to carry and dump them out of sight in the woods. I loved it so much that I bought one in 2019 and am so glad I did! It weighs nearly nothing when the bag is empty, sucks up even damp leaves, and mulches those buggers down to quarter size pieces. With the click of a button, the full bag detaches and has a carrying strap so it's easy to lug off into the woods. Unzip it, dump it, then click it back on and you're ready to go again. I bought a 100' extension cord and was able to do all around my building, keeping it neat, preventing wood rot, and reducing the fire hazard. I'd have liked a larger mulch bag originally, but after I'd been working for an hour or so, I realized that it was feeling pretty heavy when full of damp leaf mulch, so I decided it was a good size after all. If I were working with dry leaves, a larger one would have been nice, as it would have reduced the number of times I had to stop to go dump it. But really, that's very minor. It performs well.

Black and Decker leaf suckers along with Amazon's lack of ANY directions.
ALL SUCK AND NO BLOW: Please read this if you are buying a refurbished machine. Returning a machine is not my modus operandi. THAT SAID, my title is not meant to offend anyone. I'll state that again: No offense, period. I was in the yard business for 35+ years, and Black and Decker leaf suckers were my machine of choice. A hard-working machine that Shop-Vacs could not equal. I've had several of the above and a multitude of bags. Machines are good, but bags are not good (made in China?) OK: A refurbished model that had all the features that I wanted. NO directions at all. The fan release assembly was installed for blowers and not suckers. Once I set up the machine (I have 3 now), I use it as I have previously set it up. Due to the fan blade assembly, no directions, and a fan release button that barely worked, I got the machine working in 1/2 hour. Everything is copesetic now after my 1/2-hour assembly time. Review: B and D leaf blower + 4; B and D metal impellers + 5, as they used to be plastic Past use of bags a 2 or 3 depending on the manufacturer. Lastly, the set up was not perfect, thereby allowing dust to emanate from the machine, but I fixed that. Yes, I do wear a respirator and hearing protection all of the time.

Excellent mulcher
I set up the mulcher parts and found if I took the bag off I could use it as a blower - not as effective as the blower tube but handy. I ran oak leaves through the mulcher twice and then used the mulch directly on my Rhodos and camellias. This makes a much finer mulch. The machine will slow down if the bag is full as mentioned in the instructions. Caution- it will also slow down when the bag is not full if the area around the blades is clogged with a kind of leaf paste and/or pieces of wood. In that case itโs an easy fix to push the black button under the top handle and to use a stick or screwdriver (UNPLUG the power first) carefully around the blades to clean the inside.

Works well
Item came right on time. Have only used it once but good so far. We have a huge maple tree and our climate is very wet. Blower worked great. Like the concentrated nozzle accessory for a more direct blow. The vacuum did pick up and mulch the wet leaves but I wouldn't expect it to do all the leaves. Think it would over heat for the amount we have.
