Easy to Apply with a Bright, Glossy Finish
I received this paint recently and have had the chance to try it out. I used it on a few painted wood surfaces indoors where the existing finish had become dull and marked, and I was looking for something that would freshen them up without the strong smell that often comes with traditional gloss paints. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to work with. The consistency is thick enough that it doesn't run easily, but it still flows well from a good quality brush, making it straightforward to achieve an even coat. The non-drip formula definitely helps when painting skirting boards and edges, as there was far less mess than I expected. Being water based also makes cleaning brushes much easier once you've finished. The finish dries to a bright, glossy white that looks clean and modern. It became touch dry fairly quickly, which makes it much easier to complete a job in a single day if a second coat is needed. The coverage was good, although darker areas or heavily worn paint may still benefit from an additional coat to achieve a completely uniform finish. Once dry, the surface feels smooth and appears durable enough to cope with everyday knocks and regular cleaning. Build quality, if that's the right term for a paint product, seems good in terms of its formulation. It mixes well, spreads consistently and didn't show signs of separating in the tin. The low odour was another welcome feature, especially when working indoors where ventilation is limited. My only minor criticism is that, because it dries quite quickly, you need to maintain a wet edge while painting larger areas to avoid visible overlap marks. Taking your time and working in smaller sections gives the best finish. Overall, I'm pleased with it and it has done what I expected.

Brilliant paint
This is brilliant paint, goes on so well and easy, no streaks and drys fast and has a nice gloss finish, not really shiny like oil based gloss but a nice subtle shine. Biggest bonus is virtually no smell, with the windows open there's justva very slight distant paint smell. Im really sensitive to chemical smells, normally have to vacate the house or be struggling with my chest and needing my inhaler, with this paint im able to be in the same room and be comfortable. Of course with windows closed the smell is a little stronger but no way as many fumes as normal gloss. Highly recommend

Good paint with quick drying time
Like this paint as it drys quickly and has no smell, it’s a little on the runny side so unfortunately you need more than one coat

Good paint!
I got this to touch up skirting boards - amazing coverage, the colour was perfect. The application was amazing, very durable. The odor wasn’t that bad, and aired out lovely. Would definitely recommend, I got this on sale so was an amazing price!

Use a quality brush to avoid brush marks
I bought Johnstone’s Gloss Paint thinking I’d “freshen up the woodwork.” Three hours later, I was standing in the hallway staring at a doorframe so shiny I could see my entire life’s decisions reflected in it. This stuff doesn’t just cover — it announces itself. One coat in and my skirting boards went from “tired landlord beige” to “brand new show home that nobody is allowed to touch.” I accidentally leaned on the wall while it was drying and briefly considered just leaving my sleeve there as a permanent feature because, frankly, it bonded better than some DIY I’ve done in the past. Application was smooth, no drama. It glides on like it knows what it’s doing (unlike me, who had to Google what a dust sheet was halfway through). The finish levels out beautifully — no weird streaks, no sulking patches — just a solid, confident gloss that says, “Yes, this was intentional.” Also, fair warning: once you’ve used it, everything else in the room will look shabby out of spite. I now have to repaint the rest of the house because the doorframe has set unrealistic standards. Durable, great coverage, proper classic gloss finish, and it’s still looking sharp after the usual daily abuse of keys, shoes, and questionable DIY enthusiasm. Would recommend. Just be prepared for your woodwork to outshine your personality.

Not that amazing.
Retired professional house painter reviewing this. It's ok but not that great. The key to getting good results is all in the amount of prep work you do. Sanding, filling and undercoating well will give great results if the paint is good enough. In this age of acrylic and low odour, it's hard to get a good finish with out having multiple coats (unless it's white on white) as it just does not give the same level of finish as oil based paints. I very rarely had to do 2 coats of gloss as oil based doesn't have as good opacity as the undercoat (Dulux was the best) was really opaque. This Johnstone's gloss is thick as yoghurt and you have to push it rather than paint with it. You can't work it too much as you get streaking very easily. I really don't like no-drip gloss as I was trained to use the real stuff and you could achieve a very high level of shine from it and no runs if you know how to apply it. It has very low odour, dries quickly and is ok at this price point (which is really good)
