A tough, ridiculously lightweight lock that cycle tourists may want to consider
So the original TiGr lock, elegant and tweezer-shaped though it was, absolutely turned me off--it looked overkill for my purposes and cost way more than I cared to spend on a bike lock ($175 or so). But everything about the TiGr mini fits the bill: it's super portable, costs almost half as much, weighs less than a pound, the mounting system's solid, and it's a great conversation starter. (It's also made by a small foundry in the USA, so why not?) I've been using the TiGr mini for almost two months now and the best thing I can say about it is that because it weighs so little, you're never tempted to leave it behind on even the most casual ride. You hardly notice it's there! As a part-time cycle tourist, this thing has brought me peace of mind... I could never justify bringing a beefy four pound U-lock on a tour when I'm already carrying forty pounds of gear, but the TiGr mini lets me have the security of a mid-grade U-lock for the weight of a traditional cable lock. It's the best of both worlds. Just a warning for prospective customers: a lock is only one piece of your security apparatus. You also have to consider where you park your bike and how long you leave your bike unattended. When you spend $100 on this lock, you aren't getting bomb-proof security, you're simply getting a ridiculously portable, lightweight lock. There is absolutely NO lock on the market that will let you get away with leaving your expensive bike locked up in a random alleyway unattended for a week. If you're gonna do stupid things like that, then you might as well just get the $10 cheapie U-lock and get it over with, 'cause at the end of the day, when someone steals your bike, at least you won't have to spend another $100 to replace the beautiful titanium lock they just destroyed. Just sayin'. ;)

Expensive but worth it for me.
I did a lot of research before buying this lock and it was the best choice if I wanted something secure and lightweight. Pros: .9 ounces. Titanium U-lock so it’s going to be a pain to cut through Beautiful design Conveniently mounts to bottle holder space Comes with two keys. Cons: It’s small. Because it’s titanium, it’s flexible so you can part it quite wide to get it around whatever you are locking it to but then you have to push quite hard to get the two ends back in the lock ring. (In hindsight I may have purchased the new version which is much wider in the u-shape but it’s $35 more which is quite a lot considering this lock is already $100 plus tax) The coating on the lock looks spotty and uneven. I’m not sure how long it will last. If it comes off it will definitely scratch your expensive bike. The plastic mount doesn’t feel that durable. It feels like the tabs that snap it into place might break apart pretty easily. The mount, even tightly screwed in, has quite a bit of give when you push it from side to side which worries me. I wanted to keep the two bottle holders for my water bottles but there’s no real good place to mount it with a bottle cage adapter anywhere else on bike due to shape. As with any u-locks, you can get it around one wheel and the frame but the other wheel, seat tube and handlebar is still in danger of theft. Perhaps you might want to buy something like the pinwheel locking skewers system to protect that. From all I read I would use this for quick coffee breaks or somewhere where I can still see my bike if it’s a longer period but I wouldnt leave it around overnight. Update: this company has excellent customer service. I had a problem and they responded within an hour and fixed it all up. You got a loyal customer for life!

I bought a $100 bike lock for a $200 bike, and I don't regret it one bit. This thing is amazing.
I bought a 100 dollar bike lock for a 200 dollar bike, and I don't regret it one bit. This thing is amazing. It is lighter and harder to break than u-locks, and it is beautifully designed. Just holding it in your hand makes you feel good. Who knew the features of a bike lock could be so impressive? ## The locking mechanism This seems so much harder to break (or pick) than anything I've seen - and you don't have to lock it when not in use. This doesn't seem like a big deal, until you realize that it cuts out half the time you spend locking/unlocking the thing. And more importantly, you don't have to dig to find your keys to lock it up - just arrive, place the lock, push in the locking mechanism. ## Keys These are solid, it would take a lot to bend or twist them, and they would also be very difficult to copy, not sure how they could be improved any further. ## Mount This is the perfect balance between flexible and sturdy. I'm never afraid that I'm going to snap the plastic, nor that the lock will fall out. At the same time, it isn't difficult to snap the lock in and out. Installation was easy. In full disclosure, the $200 bike is a 1987 Bianchi, and would be very hard to find a replacement. That said, if everything got stolen, I would be sadder about losing the Tigr lock than the bike. I don't see any reason that I wouldn't keep this bike lock for life - making the $100 a bargain.

A nice little lock--if it fits around your frame
I really wanted to love this lock as much as everybody else, but it falls short of perfection for my needs in two crucial ways--one I could probably have predicted, and one I couldn't. (EDIT: See update below) First, the positives: - It's a super lightweight lock with a solid and convenient frame mount, so I can just leave it on my bike at all times without feeling weighed down or worrying that it might fall off the mount (both of which have been issues with my Kryptonite U-locks). - The locking mechanism is elegant and convenient: Rotating the key within the barrel releases the "button" (which pops out from the remainder of the barrel), allowing you to squeeze together the outwardly-biased arms of the loop portion and withdraw the loop portion from the barrel. Pushing the button back in locks the loop portion to the barrel. Thus, you don't need to use the key to lock it--you can just carry it in the unlocked configuration (i.e., button out and loop portion still in barrel) and lock up to a bike rack without having to reach for your keychain. - The style factor is a plus. It looks sleek mounted to my bike, and I've had strangers remark on how cool and unusual the lock looks. I do dig the look. Now, the reasons I wish I'd chosen a different lock: - The loop size is a bit small. Yes, I recognize that this makes the lock harder to break, but it really limits my locking configuration options. With quick-release skewers on the front and rear wheels, I generally prefer to run a U-lock around the frame and front wheel, which I can't do with standard bike racks (at least, not with my Cannondale Synapse). Running the lock around the rear wheel and frame is a bit more feasible, but is still awkward at best and requires a rather cooperative bike rack. So, I usually just run the lock around the frame and the bike rack and hope for the best. I think this difficulty is largely due to the triangular shape of the lock; if the rectangular-shaped TiGr mini+ had been an option when I was lock shopping, I probably would've chosen that one instead. To be fair, I probably could have foreseen that the size constraints would be an issue, so I shouldn't fault TiGr for this. Far more frustrating and unpredictable, however, is: - The lock mechanism is sporadically sticky/faulty. Specifically, when the lock is locked, sometimes I cannot for the life of me get the key to insert fully/turn within the barrel, preventing me from retrieving my bike (or locking it up in the first place if I'd carried the lock with the button pushed in). This happens maybe 40% of the times I try to open the lock, which feels like way too often--It's hard to describe how uniquely frustrating it is to wrestle with the lock for literally five or ten minutes (with nonplussed onlookers offering words of encouragement) before the barrel finally decides to accept the key and open. This has made me late to work and to dates. In fact, it looks like the keys are becoming worn down from my exasperated attempts to find the right combination of pressure and angles and torque that will coax the lock into basic operation. I'll try applying some graphite lubricant to the tumbler to see if it helps, but frankly, I feel that I shouldn't have to endure this sort of frustration with a hundred-dollar lock. If not for my difficulties in unlocking the lock, I'd be satisfied with this purchase, though I'd still probably opt for the TiGr mini+ if I were buying again today. And the lock difficulties are, in principle, a solvable problem--the graphite lubricant is worth a shot, and I could always just buy a replacement lock cylinder if I felt like shelling out another $40 on a gamble that the new cylinder would be better than the old one. But for this price point, one expects not to have to deal with these frustrations. I want to love this lock, and this brand, but I'd want some assurance that this issue had been identified and addressed before I could comfortably recommend buying one. __________________________ 9/19/17 Edit: I'm updating this review to reflect the excellent customer service provided to me by TiGr, who addressed my locking cylinder difficulties promptly and generously. I'm upgrading my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars--I do feel that I can now recommend this brand without hesitation, and the lock is indeed solid and lightweight and convenient, but I do still feel that the size of the lock limits its versatility a bit. (For my purposes, it was a 4/5, but it may be a 5/5 for yours.) Having had the opportunity to compare the TiGr Mini to the slightly larger (and barely heavier) TiGr Mini+, I'm now entirely sold on the Mini+, which I'll review separately with photos comparing the two locks. In short, even though the lengths and widths of the bows on the Mini and the Mini+ are nearly the same, the rectangular shape of the Mini+ allows you to actually *use* that full length. By contrast, in my experience, the relatively sharp bend of the Mini had a tendency to pinch the bike frame or bike rack, making it difficult to close the bow and secure it with the lock cylinder. Again, these issues may have been unique to my bike geometry, and other users may not have this issue. But given that the Mini+ essentially eliminates this problem with minimal size/weight penalty, that's the lock I'd recommend for maximal versatility for most users.

Love this lock
Love this lock. It is the first lock I have seen that I would leave on my bike all of the time. All other high security locks are too heavy and too bulky for use on a high end road ride. My bike is a custom bike that would cost me nearly $10,000 to replace. So when I am riding it, which is several times per week (I have averaged over 8,000 miles per year for the last 8 years), I worry when I stop at local coffee shops for my favorite drink. If mother nature calls, I may have to leave the bike unattended for a few minutes. So I now have a lock that is always on my bike so I can make needed stops with out having to worry about someone walking off with my bike. Now I would never leave it unattended for hours but this lock will keep it very safe for the short amount of time that I will be away. I would not say that the lock is perfect for everyone, it is rather small and is sometimes hard to get it around larger poles and such. But I have never been somewhere where I could not lock it to something. It is large enough to get around the seat tube, rear tire and a pole, but sometimes I just lock the frame alone to something. One thing I was interested in was the mounting options. It comes with a mount that is designed for mounting on one of the water bottle bosses. I did not want to mount it that way as I often carry 2 bottles for warm days or longer rides. After consulting with the makers of the lock, they suggested a strap-on water bottle mount. The one I settled on is made by Twofish unlimited (weird name), but it worked perfectly for my needs. I mounted it to the top tube so both of my water bottle cages were still available for bottles. I included 2 pictures. But all in all, a great lock.

I like that this lock is light weight
It's not theft proof. Nothing is. Make no mistake that with enough time, this lock can be beat. It did for me and I lost my $800 Trek Bike from my parking garage. I like that this lock is light weight, has a bike attachment, and probably deters some theft as it's no a common lock. But alas, still lost my bike with this one. So sad.

User Experience Focused
After purchasing my first fairly-expensive bike, I wanted to make sure to protect it more than the others I’ve had in the past. It led me on a research adventure where I learned about the best and worst bike locks available. (Yes, I am a millennial). There were some hilarious videos, including one from the London Police where they hired a guy wearing a face mask to cut through as many locks as he could using whatever tools he wanted. I live in Charleston, so our bike theft game is not near as intense as New York, but again- expensive bike I want to protect. Kryptonite locks were well known and highly reviewed, but appeared to be overkill. I didn’t want to carry around something that was 8 pounds and looked more like a weapon than a bike lock. Next was TiGr, a beautiful solid bow of titanium. I loved the strength while still being lightweight; and the added bonus was it mounts directly on to the bike-something Kryptonight was desperately lacking. Lastly was Abus, an interesting lock that unfolded like an old fashioned ruler. Many videos couldn’t break it and reviews praised its ability to be indestructible. Again, I loved how it coiled up to fit into a convenient holder on the bike, but it gave potential thieves a lot of room to work if they were going to try. The decision came down to TiGr and Abus for me. I had concerns TiGr would scratch the frame because in all my research I didn’t know there was a clear coating on it (they need to sell that more!), but what really became the deciding factor was design. As a designer, I was instantly drawn to TiGr’s lock. It’s appearance is modern and clean and there was true thought into the experience design. I loved it! And it was a happy surprise when I saw the clear coating upon opening the package today. Looking forward to using this lock and recommend it for anyone who needs a new one.

As Fierce As A TiGeR But As Lightweight As A Feather
As someone with a disability (I don't have any arms) I need a lock that is lightweight yet still tough and in my case nigh impenetrable due to the special modifications and additions of my bike. I think I have found it with the TiGr lock. PROS: VERY LIGHTWEIGHT (I cannot believe how light this is...genius engineering!) SMALL FOOTPRINT (I use the lock without the bike attachment it comes with. When I ride the lock itself moves/rattles very little.) CONS: SIZE (If it were a few inches longer from top to bottom it would be perfect! I do struggle locking it to my back wheel and frame to a post.) LOCKING (Due to its small size it gets very cramped making it hard to squeeze the two rods into the lock.) I am giving this 5 stars for the pure brilliance in the design of the lock. It's evident that a lot of work went into fabricating this. I realize this lock was not made to be used with feet but rather with hands. So 95% of people who use this shouldn't have any difficulty. However if you have big hands and/or fat fingers, arthritis and/or difficulty using your hands for the finer motions you may struggle with the lock as I do but you can use it. As this was my first outing with the lock I'll post updates.

This is a fantastic lock. Super light and really strong
This is a fantastic lock. Super light and really strong. My only drawback is that it is too small to go around my frame and back tire and still wrap over a bike lock. However, that was explained before I bought it and I knew that going in. There is a larger square version of it that does work.

自転車自体に取り付けられるのでありがたい。 おしゃれ。 購入して半年も経っていないので耐久性はわかりませんが、丈夫そうです。

Good for its weight.
This is a very light-weight lock, versatile, and useful when your bike is in your sight. I wouldn't leave my bike locked up with this in a high risk area or where it can be worked on by thieves. I'm sure they could cut it with a hacksaw across the piece that goes into the lock. But its light weight and compact form make it a good lock for very short term use.
