8v Golf Cart batteries Brought back from the dead! Thank you Shumacher!
Bought for my EZGO golf cart as the batteries were fully discharged by accident and only registered .2 volts yes point 2 volts. I have a 48v golf cart 6 x 8v batteries and with this charger set at 2amp load deep cycle I charged each battery for 30 min. Like most carts my batteries are wired in series and I didn't have to disconnect the cables to charge each. Just connect the positive to positive and negative to negative on one single battery at a time and that brought my battery voltage up to 7.57-7.87 volts on each and once I did all six batteries I was able to plug in my EZGO charger and let it do its thing. the next morning I ran my cart without issue for approx. 10 minutes and put back on charger and again ran for approx. 15 minutes then back on the EZGO charger so I had 3 discharge/recharge cycles and cart runs like a champ. I always kept the water above the corrugated baffle things (not sure of the name) so wasn't an issue. If you do fill only use distilled water in batteries (it's cheap $1/gal) don't be lazy! I put this out there for others like me that didn't know exactly if or how to charge and 8v battery with a 12v charger since no one really makes a 8v charger. Neither the batteries nor this battery charger go hot during the 30 minutes, in fact the batteries never even got warm. I am sure there are plenty out there who will poo poo this but after much research online I took the plunge without issue and this charge saved me 800 for new batteries after I spent 800 a year ago for new ones. ideally you never want your deep cycle golf cart batteries to fully discharge as it puts stress on the battery and will shorten their lifespan but life happens and if you find yourself in my shoes I hope this helps you. This charger does have an auto kill circuit so it will shut down if a mistake was made. Best bang for the buck in my opinion and we are riding again!

Works great with my Charge-O-Matic
This is a great little battery charger. Robust and easy to use. I mostly use it to charge my trolling motor batteries. The only thing it didn't like was that the manual says to remove the battery after it's fully charged and I never remember to do that. Also, if I leave the batteries sitting for a few months, they discharge and aren't ready to go when I need them. I found a great solution, a product on Amazon called Charge-O-Matic. It is a long term timer that I plug the Schumacher charger into and leave the batteries connected. I set it to come on once every 30 days for 12 hours. Now the trolling motor batteries are always fully charged and ready to go and should last for years.

It is a nice little unit that works well on any of the ...
I bought this thing a long time ago, and should have done this review a lot sooner. I wanted to give it a fair and unbiased appraisal. I have used this thing dozens of times to charge everything in the way of 12VDC Auto/Truck/Lawn and Garden Tractor Type wet cell batteries. There are choices of 2 amp trickle charge, 10 amp deep cycle with conditioning, and 50 amp fast charge for 12 VDC batteries. It is a nice little unit that works well on any of the cycles you use. The clips are quality. The UL listed 120vac power cord is heavy and the charging cable out to the clips is heavy enough to do the job. It is a great charger! The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is no on/off main switch. It is a great charger, but would be so much better with an on/off switch on the unit. You need to remember to disconnect the AC power to the charger at the plug before disconnecting the clips from the battery under charge. That way you don't accidentally get (+) and (-) from the 12volt DC cable and hurt the charger output. It is a great unit to own and works well.

Best Value You Will Find
Except for an old used service station charger that was given to me, I have never owned anything but Schumacher chargers, and have never had one to fail. The old Schumachers that were replaced with newer models with upgraded features were all handed down and continue to serve family and friends. I ordered a model SE-5212A several months ago, and was very impressed with the upgraded features, especially the over-charge protection. This feature is a real worry-free way to keep a full charge on my lawn equipment batteries, my boat batteries (including conventional deep cycle and starting batteries). I have not had a need to use the 50 amp start feature on an auto battery, but I did use it on a small garden tractor battery. The tractor engine started with nearly no effort. I really believe this is the best charger for any of us do-it-yourselfers regardless of price. I was so impressed, I just ordered a second one so I can keep one in the garage and the other in a detached shop.

When you need a charger," why not have the best"?
I own two cars and a riding lawn mower and from time to time if you are like me you are going to find yourself in the need of a battery charger. When this happens be sure you have the best and this is the best. I've been complaining about having to buy a new battery for for my mower every year for the past several years, when in fact all they needed was a good charge. I was about to do the same thing again this year until I had the battery tested and all it needed was a charge. My old charger had been a good one but time had taken it's toll and it was time for a replacement. I always do a great deal of research before I make a purchase on anything and after 3 weeks of looking at just everything on the net, the SE-5212A was my choice and what a great choice it was. It was at my front door 6 days after placing order because AMAZON takes care of business. The charger is of real quality and is MORE than I expected. It is quiet, efficient and does a great job. Yes! I would reccomend this to anyone who is in the market for new charger.

What you see is not neccesarily what you get. And what you get is not neccesarily going to function.
It seems Amazon has been doing this kind of crap a lot lately. Show you one thing and sell you something different. Almost smacks of bait and switch. But I suspect ineptitude rather than deviousness. I ordered this charger specifically for the features shown in the picture above. (Model # SE-5212A) It's supposed to have an analog gauge with solid state switches for the 2, 10 & 50 amp modes. That's not quite the battery charger I received. I received model # SE -5212.CA. A similar appearing, but different charger that lacks the features/options I wanted. (see attached picture) The mode switch is a chintzy little grey button that you press to cycle downward through the charging modes. Press once for 2amp again for 10amp, etc. Thanks to the fact that not only is the mode button sticky, it's also partially covered by the plastic membrane of the face plate/cover. All that add s up to is a roll of the dice as to what mode you'll actually end up with. One press might get you 2amp or nothing. Or it might get you the 10amp mode. Add a second press and that's where it can really fun as that seems to exponentially increases your odds for randomness. And to make it even more entertaining, even the randomness is random. And instead of a nice sweep gauge that tells you what your approximate level of charge is, you get useless LED lights. You have three yellow LED's to the left that tell you what mode your in. 2/10 or 50. And three LED's on the right: Reversed (polarity), Charging and Charged/Maintaining. And to make it even better, you have a limited viewing angle on them. Straight on or nothing. Yes, you can see the LED's from various angles but that is misleading as the lights will illuminate the other positions if looked at from an angle of top down. And then to add a cherry to the top of this mess. My charger only functions in the 2amp mode. Switch it to 10 or 50, the charger will buzz a lot, but do nothing else. Guess we'll see how bad Schumacher customer service is.

You Think They Would Have Fixed That by Now!
Schumacher SE-5212A Automatic Handheld Battery My old battery charger went bad after about 15 years and I went to Amazon to see what I could find to replace it. Well, after bouncing around the internet for an hour, I finally decided on the Schumacher SE-5212A, it had all the features my old one had, I especially liked the automatic shut off. You can leave your battery on the charger all year if you wanted to. The only thing I thought twice about was a couple reviews from folks who had had the handle come off. As smart as I am, I figured these reviews were old enough that any manufacturer would have been embarrassed and fixed that problem by now, wrong!! Well, when the handle came apart it fell on the cement floor. That charger is heavy and when it hit the floor, the transformer tried to come out of the bottom of the charger. I was going to keep it, fix the handle with a couple of screws, it was only bent on the bottom, but when I went to use it, it hummed like a harmonica, it had worked as quiet as a mouse until it fell. I was kind of angry at this point and called the customer service for the second time and they said send it to Brownsville TX, felt good, they were going to take care of it, little did I know then postage was on me, all $16.00. It's been three weeks and I haven't seen the charger, about time to make some phone calls. By the way, the first time I called customer service the charger was clicking off and on, customer service said it needed to be plugged direct into an outlet, don't use an extencsion cord. Well, that won't be a problem, next time I need to charge the car I'll just have my neighbor help me push my car up on the back porch, I got an outlet the there.

Great Automatic Battery Charger
I replaced an old battery charger with this one and it is great. I use it with both marine (deep cycle) and car batteries since it switches back and forth. It charges fast based on the amp hours of the battery and the length of the extension cord if used. I carry it with me when I camp so I can recharge in the park if needed (if there is an electrical connection). The 2 amp charge is for small batteries and can be used as a trickle charger to keep batteries full. This is an Automatic battery charger so when the battery is full, the green light comes on and the charger switches to maintenance mode so it won't overcharge the battery. This means you can leave it connected all night and not worry about ruining the battery. You can also use this charger to start a car with a low (dead) battery. I like it and would recommend it.
