Does this have a flow restricter? Can it be removed without adversely affecting the design of the shower spray from the spray nozzle?

It does have one, like most shower heads these days. It's a green plastic bit under the debris filter. It doesn't come out easily; you have to basically break it apart with tools. I didn't compare the spray after I removed it to the spray before I removed it, but I can say that afterward, the spray is just fine. A nice, gentle shower that still manages to provide enough water.

How does this compare with a rainfall showerhead? Which one covers more area? Which one is more comfortable?

My friend has the rainfall style and hates it. To get any spray on you, you need to have it pouring on your head and down your face onto the rest of your body. They look like fun, but for everyday they are just stupid. The Forte is just the right amount of water, not too soft nor too hard, and it looks great. You won't regret the Forte.

Does thes swivel/pivot?

You can move it up or down, but as far as swivel no. This is a straight rain shower, shower head, very nice.

can i get this in polished brass finish ?

Yes, I have one in brass, and one in chrome. Both are very nice.
