I finally used this for the first time today. It's made very well. It held my work perfectly for what I was trying to do.

I am very pleased with this product. I use it to hold small flowers or little branches which can then hold insects for my macro photography. The magnetic arms lock into the metal base very securely and the alligator clips are perfect on the end of the bendable arms. I wish I could get a 16 inch arm, as well, but the 12 inch one works fine, too. Great stuff!

I ordered the Kotto Third Hand at the same time as I ordered the cheaper one on the left (in m picture). I paid $9 for the cheap one and $21 for the Kotto. The cheap one is unwieldy and the "hands" are a fixed distance apart. The Magnifier is a nice touch, but considering the fact that the "clips" are at a fixed distance, it is unusable. The Kotto, on the "other hand" (pun intended) has flexible arms that are fixed to a solid base by powerful magnets. So virtually any position is possible. AND... they delivered an extra clip and an extra set of "footies." Kotto gets double marks for delivering a fantastic product and going the extra mile by delivering extra parts. While it's about 2.3 times the price, it's easily 10x better than the competition. I highly recommend Kotto.

I was looking for something that I could take down and put away instead of having it put together and being very bulky to put away. With the arms being magnetic you can take them off and put them back on very easily. No need to have a screw driver. The metal plate is very well made and the magnets on the arms are very strong. To put the clips on the arms you just screw them on and if you need to keep the clip from damaging the. item they give you plastic tubes you can slide over each part of the clip. I wish it came with 3 or 4 arms because I may need them down the road but I wasn't spending $45-$50 on something I may not use very much. Also if I really need additional arms you can get a pair separately for another $12.00 It's not as sophisticated as some of the other helping hands but it's very sufficient for my needs and you might want to think whether you'll be needing anything more expensive yourself. The reviewer who mentioned about the hole in the plate when you take the label off is a bit silly to me. I really don't care if there's a small hole made by the manufacturer when it was created.

I don’t know why I haven’t bought one of these before! I am not a everyday soldering person, but when I did I was juggling my soldering iron, wires and components ultimately ending up with a burn or two. I used these helping hands last night, and was asking myself why I waited so long to buy a set. The base is a made of metal, it’s heavy enough that it don’t slip around, and the provided heavy duty rubber bumpers that go on the bottom, stick and I mean really stick! So I am not worried about scratching up my work table. Now the best part is the helping hands themselves, you can move the around and the don’t rebound, the alligator clips screw on to the arm ends and a little knurled jam nuts allows you to turn them in any direction and then set them by tightening up the knob, the best part is how the working arms attach to the metal base plate, and that is a very strong magnet, it’s not shaky, it won’t move unless you want to, very ingenious of this manufacturer, my only regret is I got the smaller two arm set, and would have really wanted to get the bigger plate with more arms and maybe with the magnifying glass.

Exactly what I needed and Perfect for your work box and those on the road repairs: make sure you keep the magnets away from sensitive equipment though, the good and the bad is they are quite strong.

This is a great thing to have full stop. I’ve used it for holding wires to solder but also to hold things in place while glueing them together. The base is quite heavy for its size and so it doesn’t topple over. It’s really easy to use. The magnetic bases of the arms are really strong and the flexible arms can be bent into pretty much any position and once set they remain where you put them. Really useful, well made and decent value bit of kit.

Both Kotto products I purchased for courses have been surprisingly well made for their price point, and shipped quickly. I can fit the Kotto Fume Extractor on the base plate for these helping hands, and have them circle around to hold a PCB directly in front of the fan and filter. I was very skeptical of "helping hands" because most models looked unstable, poor quality. The excellent ones were nearly $100 for something that looked like it wouldn't fit at my workstation, or they would have large shipping costs and customs fees. This one is a relatively small piece of sturdy, powder coated steel with strong magnetic arms and clips with rubber grips, and rubber footpads. Just the right balance of quality and price for my workstation. It's easy to underestimate the difference that a stable hold on a PCB makes until you've had to SMT solder by hand. Kotto's doing an excellent job at what they make; unlike other fume extractors, for example, the Kotto one has enough power to pull fumes from as far as 9 inches away. If, like me, you're trawling amazon for a good deal, this is one of them.
