Took just a few minutes to install, and was the perfect fit. No issues with connections. Placed it in the machine, powered up and the machine was fully functional again and playing games. Do be sure to remove the solder as mentioned elsewhere (lots of good YouTube videos on the topic). Failure to do that will cause the head to not work. That surgery can be a little daunting to those not used to de-soldering. Been playing games for a couple months now; fast reads and no known errors. There are multiple heads designs for the PS2, it's worth your time to open your device prior to ordering to make certain you are getting the right head for your specific PS2.

Like many people out there, the lens on my PS2 Slim stopped reading discs properly and was in need of replacement. I went with this one figuring all the lenses came from the same place anyway and some positive reviews said that the blob was pre-removed, which was good for me because I currently do not own a soldering iron. The installation was easy enough after referring to a tutorial video on YouTube and my PS2 was once again able to read discs, but after about 3 hours the lens failed in the middle of a loading screen. At first I thought maybe the disc was dirty, so I cleaned it and still nothing. Then I tried different discs and while Compact Disc games still seemed to load, all of the DVD discs I tried failed to get past the Playstation 2 logo. So it looks like I'm going to have to find a lens from a more reliable source, instead of getting one from a random seller.

I got a used ps2 and not long after getting it, it wouldnt read discs. I decided to try to fix it myself with this laser. I was very nervous about this. Watched a youtube video and it didnt take long at all. My ps2 works like a new one now. Just make sure you get the right laser for the right ps2 model you have.

Just what was needed

Fit perfectly and works perfectly. Did not come with the solder blob on the 3 traces, but it came in an antistatic bag in a box in another box. 10 mins work tops and the ps2 reads discs like new.

Bought 3 of these lasers to fix a couple slim PS2’s that had disc read errors. This laser is one of the easiest installs on a console I have done. I installed 2 into systems that wouldn’t read any discs at all and they worked right away. I tested all types of discs and in all different conditions and had no problems whatsoever. I bought a few of these same lasers in the past and had to return them because they would only read PS1 games, not this time. I would highly recommend them if your slim PS2 is having trouble reading discs. Update: Only 1 out of 3 lasers I ordered worked. One of them worked perfectly for 30 minutes or so then reverted to only reading PS1 games. I swapped it out for the extra one I had and it didn’t read any of the discs I tried PS2/1/DVD. It’s too much of a hassle having to send back and get a replacement for more than half the lasers I’ve ordered. Not worth your time in my opionion.

These lasers do not appear to be new from the factory. New lasers should have a solder point that needs to be removed prior to use. I ordered two of these and neither had the solder point, and one of them didn't work at all, while the other worked perfectly fine, which is the reason for the three stars. Fortunately, I can return the one that didn't work.
