Unleash Blazing Speeds and Security with the SAMSUNG SSD T7 Portable 2TB External Solid State Drive
I recently acquired the SAMSUNG SSD T7 Portable External Solid State Drive in its 2TB variant, equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectivity. This sleek and portable storage solution has truly impressed me with its exceptional performance and reliability. Firstly, the design of the SSD T7 is sleek and modern, featuring a compact form factor that easily fits into the palm of my hand. The metallic finish gives it a premium feel, while the shock-resistant build provides peace of mind when carrying it around. In terms of performance, this SSD is an absolute powerhouse. With USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, I've experienced blazing-fast read and write speeds, significantly reducing data transfer times. Whether I'm transferring large files, editing high-resolution videos, or running demanding applications, the SSD T7 handles it all with ease. The storage capacity of 2TB is ample for my needs, allowing me to store a vast amount of data, including multimedia files, documents, and software applications. It's perfect for professionals, content creators, and anyone who requires large storage capacity on the go. One of the standout features of the SSD T7 is its advanced security options. The drive offers password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption, ensuring that my data remains safe and secure, even if the drive falls into the wrong hands. Furthermore, the SSD T7 is compatible with a wide range of devices, including laptops, desktops, gaming consoles, and mobile devices. The USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables included in the package make it easy to connect to various devices without the need for additional adapters. Overall, the SAMSUNG SSD T7 Portable External Solid State Drive 2TB is an outstanding storage solution that offers top-notch performance, reliability, and security. Whether you're a professional on the go or a content creator in need of high-speed storage, this SSD is an excellent choice.

Much faster than HDD it replaced
The T7 was received in Fat32 Format with MBR Partition. I'm using this as a backup drive for a Win 11 Pro Desktop PC, so the first thing I did was reformat the Drive as NTFS with GPT partitions which is better suited for the Win 10/11 OS. With that out of the way, I turned to the provided USB C to C cable, it looks like good quality, however it's only 1 1/2ft long, too short for my needs, for I'm mounting the drive forward on the right side of my case, thus I picked up a 3.3ft USB C to C 3.2 Gen2 Cable (to insure the cable is up to speed with the SSD's capabilities) The drive itself I slipped into a Portable Hard Drive Sleeve that mounts to the side of my case. This is an ideal setup, it protects the SSD and secures it's position without fear of it being knocked to the floor, cable being disconnected or the SSD being misplaced for that matter. You never know, it is small and thin. Performance is as expected. It reads and writes IAW specs, about 10x faster than the HDD it replaced. When being accessed the highest temps, I've seen hovered around 42C, well below the 70C max you'll hate to see before thermal throttling kicks in. I expect this drive to have excellent longevity, just as I have achieved with a pair of Samsung M.2 PCIe's. Of course, length of service is dependent upon the quantity of processed data. For anyone in the market for a fast, high quality and reliable SSD storage device, I don't think you can go wrong making the Samsung T7 your choice.

The SAMSUNG SSD T7 is blazing fast,
The SAMSUNG SSD T7 is blazing fast, with read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s. This means you can transfer large files, like movies and games, in seconds. I was able to transfer a 50GB file in less than a minute! Compact and portable: The T7 is small and lightweight, making it perfect for taking on the go. It's about the size of a credit card, so it will easily fit in your pocket or bag. Durable and rugged: The T7 is built to last. It's drop-resistant from up to 6 feet and is also water and dust resistant. This means you don't have to worry about it getting damaged if you accidentally drop it or spill something on it. Stylish design: The T7 comes in a sleek and stylish design that looks great with any laptop or computer. It's available in three colors: black, red, and blue. Easy to use: The T7 is plug-and-play, so you don't need to install any software to use it. Just plug it into your computer and you're good to go. Security: The T7 comes with AES 256-bit hardware encryption to help keep your data safe. This means that even if someone loses your drive, they won't be able to access your data without the password. Overall, the SAMSUNG SSD T7 is an excellent portable SSD. It's fast, durable, and stylish, and it's easy to use. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great way to store their data on the go. Here are some additional positive things to mention about the T7: It comes with a three-year warranty. It's compatible with PC, Mac, and Android devices. It includes two cables: USB Type-C to Type-C and USB Type-C to Type-A. It's energy efficient, so it won't drain your battery.

Solid, reliable, familiar...
I now own several generations (and 3 colors!) of Samsung T SSDs- T3, T5, T7 plus the Shield version. They've been my long-time go-to, especially as prices come down and file sizes go up. Thin-sliced from my 1st review: It's an easy-to-use and very secure little device, fast and simple to use across devices and even systems, as plugging in it opens a choice of OS and a window to log-in. The password is always what you assign at set-up, and it's hard-wired into the device, so it stays secure, requiring password every time it's first connected. Tech specs you can read. It's fast, blazing when connected to other SSD's. Gets a little toasty with huge transfers (like my 1GB initial transfer from another drive). It comes with two types of USB cables, which work well, and secure it well even if pulled around a bit on its short length. I'd note that the T7 Shield is an exception, consistently coming (in my experience) with a poorly designed connector/receptacle, nearly impossible to keep a solid connection unless you don't breathe or vibrate things when you type. That bad. I digress. This - the basic T7 (newer software interface but basically same as T5 - is one of those things that "just works". Like the others, on the Mac it may hava some small quirks - like saying it's disconnected when you first connect, or similar, but it works fine, 100% of the time for me thus far, all of them (knock on wood). Unless you really truly like the idea of the ridged design and heat-dissipation of the Shield, I'd advise against it (I called Samsung, they said they'd send a new cord, and didn't, and claim not to know about the port/plug issue). That off my chest, I love and swear by the T5s and T7s, and caveat emptor on the Shields.

Fast, lightweight, small, durable
The Samsung T7 Portable SSD 2TB External Solid State Drive works as intended. Like many other SSD's, this one is fast. Not only is it fast, it is lightweight, small, carries lots of storage and feels quite durable. Noise? None. The only freezes you would get would be probably from your own computer depending on reads and writes from other storage devices, whether it be internal or external storage. This device will not freeze on you. It is purposely developed for fast reads (view data) and writes (modify data). The computer recognition will see it as any other external storage media. This of course depends on your operating system, as it may use a different file system. This device came with a firmware installer, which you can delete, and if you want it back, you can simply go search up the model number of this device and redownload the firmware. This is a very convenient product, compared to something as slow as a hard drive, this SSD will not fail you. However, do take note that hard drive's last a long time, I have a 15 year old hard drive and it's still running to this day. I am not too familiar with the infrastructure of a SSD, as data is being read and written digitally, but hard drive's are easier to understand for me personally. SSD's do last too, but not as long as a hard drive. But, I am sure depending on your scenario and uses, you may prefer speed over longevity.

RELIABLE, BLAZING-ULTRA-FAST, LOW COST, LONG-TERM Data Storage.
First: I will shine a bright โeindeutigen Lichtโ to evince my respect and gratitude for the remarkable, hard-working, eminently respectful, and WORTHY OF TRUST delivery workers that bring important equipment to the doorstep. This is especially significant in my personal life because, due to my physical disability, I would not be able to venture about town searching for these essential components. Second: My Sincere Gratitude to Amazon for allowing me to share these thoughts and perspectives on their website. ***The SAMSUNG T7 Portable SSD (this particular model capable of 2 Terabytes data storage!) is a top-tier example of preeminent Samsung Systems, Electronic, and Industrial Engineering. The world (myself included) has come to trust, utilize, and favour the SAMSUNG T7 (and T5) SSD Storage systems because of the following ESSENTIAL QUALITIES: Very, Very, Very Low Probability of Error while performing trillions of read/write functions. Rugged Design/Construction. Light Weight. Very Easy Setup and Use. All needed cables are supplied (and the cables are of the HIGHEST QUALITY - like the T7 itself). Small footprint (roughly the size of a credit card, with the thickness of a pencil). If you need SAFE, RELIABLE, ULTRA-FAST, LOW COST, LONG-TERM Data Storage of any kind (Photography, Documents, Computer Backup, Financial Data, Music, Graphic Arts, usw, usf), the SAMSUNG T7 SSD is the BEST product for the vast majority of users.

Seems to work great
I have only had this item a few days, so this is a preliminary review. My setup is a 2018 Mac Mini with 32 GB RAM, using MacOS 12.4 Monterey. I am using the Thunderbolt 3 port on the rear of the Mini with the included USB-C to USB-C cable. Pros: Seems to work well and the read/write speed is fine for me. Nice appearance and form factor. Capacity is more than fine for my needs. It gets warm when using it, but nowhere near hot or even too warm. Both USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C cables included. Price seems fair. Presence of the drive on my desktop has been stable and works as it should. This is in contrast to other reviews saying that it disappears and reappears. Cons: Installation of software/firmware update was clunky and threw a number of seemingly significant errors, but ultimately was successful. May have not been fine-tuned for the newest MacOS. Samsung should clean that part up. Samsung should be embarrassed by their simply unprofessional online support. All of the links to manuals led to 404 errors. Does no one test out their support website for broken links? Manuals contain very little usable end-user information. The manual included in the package requires a magnifying glass to read. Just ridiculously tiny and unreadable text. The power light would be better on the side opposite the USB-C plug as that is the side that is most likely visible for the user. As it is, the light is hidden from view on my setup, but I can certainly see the drive on my desktop.

Perfect for Xbox Games!
We have 2 Xbox consoles in our house, one is the last-gen Xbox One S and the other is a current-gen Xbox Series X. While the Series X has blazing fast built-in storage, its capacity is lacking for modern game sizes, which is why I purchased this. Note of Caution (with Series S/X): This will not allow you to play some current-generation games created specifically for Series S/X as they require the extremely fast built-in storage that allows the game to load some assets "on-the-fly". You will be able to store them but will have to transfer to internal storage (or the optional expansion storage card). This is not an issue specific to this particular device this is a limitation of the console itself. You will still be able to play non-optimized games straight from this. This uses the fast USB 3.2 protocol that transfers data much faster than the older USB 2 versions that many are used to. If you have a previous-gen console with high-speed internet, you will likely even notice increased download speeds as well, due to the fact that your download speeds are not only reliant on actual internet speeds but the speed of your storage that your download needs to write data to - and the previous gen consoles used a very slow storage solution that created a huge bottleneck on download speeds. As long as you know what your intentions are for using this for console gaming (as in non-optimized games on current-gen systems or all games on previous gen consoles) then this is a very good purchase that I would highly recommend. I even bought the T5 version a few years ago and the speed difference with this T7 was highly noticeable and I was very impressed with the improved game-load and new game install/download speeds on my Xbox One. On previous gen console, I like to store the small "apps" on the slower internal storage and use this for game installs. If you have a ton of games that you need to use both storage locations for installs, I would recommend placing 360/PS3 backwards-compatible games on the internal storage first (since they are usually significantly smaller in size and load times won't have as much as an impact) and then games that you play the least. Some additional notes: I have gigabit fiber internet (both upload & download speeds). When downloading a new game, I was getting a consistent 550-600 mbps install speed. It's very important that you understand "consistent" because some SSDs will have a small cache that has very fast write speeds, but once it's filled up it will immediately drop down to a significantly slower speed - I did not experience this issue with this particular device. Also, it's quite likely that my speeds mentioned above is limited by the game server itself (or your ISP/hardware) and not this device - this device is capable of much faster write speeds than what I've mentioned, but I have not tested its actual throughput on a PC. So in summary, if you are on previous gen consoles (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, etc), then this is an absolute excellent buy. This will be much faster than the built-in storage of the console and you will notice improved DL speeds and game loading times. If you are on current gen consoles, this is good for the additional storage of non-optimized games so you can save the internal storage for games that require it.

Compact, reliable and robust
A transfer speed of 1050MB/s is decent compared to SATA disk drives. In the SSD category, it is average but addresses the needs of most situations and uses. I got the 2TB size, the most convenient option per MB, and a capacity large enough to serve as a backup unit when considering this device on the road. Its pocket size and weight are significant features, making this product an ideal solution for almost every need and situation. All my previous experiences with Samsung external SSD have been highly successful, never experiencing any hardware failure or data loss. I guess this red T7 will emulate its predecessors, but only time will tell.
