Perfect SSD for Rivian Gear Guard
The Samsung T7 Portable SSD 1TB in Titan Gray is great for my new Rivian and works perfectly with Gear Guard. It’s extremely easy to set up — just make sure to plug it into the first USB‑C slot under the armrest. It connected seamlessly and I just had to format at it when I first installed and it was good to go after that. That takes about 1-2 minutes. Before buying, I did a lot of research and read through Reddit threads from other Rivian owners, and this SSD was consistently recommended. It’s built for speed and performance, and it handles the constant video recording without any issues. It also seems well‑suited for the heat it will be exposed to inside a car, which was important to me. I also love how sleek and compact it is. It barely takes up any space in the armrest and keeps the interior looking clean. Overall, a great choice for anyone using Gear Guard on their Rivian.

Super fast, light, and small. Will get warm but not to extremes
The first time I used this drive I did notice that it got very hot. I'm not sure why but upon subsequent uses it has gotten warm but never so hot that it slowed itself down or came close to causing any internal damage to the drive. I did not update the firmware and I formatted the drive as ExFAT. The size is amazing. I can stick this in a pocket easily. It's smaller than a credit card and my wallet is thicker than this thing. It comes with a USB 3 to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-C cable. So you'd think if you have a USB-C capable computer you'd use it and I almost always do but there are times when I have both my USB-C ports taken up so I'll use a USB-C hub to connect this drive with my other external devices. I only do this in cases where speed is not as important and I can afford USB 3 speeds. Usually this is when I'm backing up the work I'm doing on the T7 to another external HDD that is only capable of USB 3 speeds. There's no benefit to be had when you're transferring files to or from a USB 3 drive and a USB-C drive. You're limited to the slowest link in your chain. Now, when I do music production I make sure to keep a USB-C port free for this drive and the speeds are so fast that it's as if I'm working off my internal SSD. Almost no noticeable difference in speed at all. I use this drive with my M1 MacBook Pro for music production. I keep my Logic Pro sound library, all my logic sessions, and my own personal sample library on this drive. I connect over USB-C and the drive is more than fast enough to do music production directly off of it without having to transfer anything to my internal storage. All of my music production is now done directly off this drive and the only thing running off internal storage is my DAW itself. Audio and video production takes a ton of storage space so having a drive like this that's fast enough to run audio and video production from is a lifesaver. I no longer have to worry about how many samples or libraries I want to install and I can just buy a bigger T7 if I ever run out of room on this one. Generally, I will move finished sessions to a regular USB 3.0 HDD for archiving and this SSD is more for working directly from. There is one time when the drive can be just a bit slow. There is no lag time whatsoever when recording or loading files. The only time I see a lag is when saving a Logic project session file. I'll get a spinning beachball for like half a second. It's not a big deal at all but I know that if I was using internal storage it wouldn't do that. This slows me down by only half a second every hour. It's not even worth mentioning but I guess I am just to be thorough. I mean, this thing is fast as hell but in the end it is still an external drive and technically it's going to be just slightly slower than your internal drive.

Recorded 7 simultaneous video streams to it live, no dropouts
I use this as the recording drive for a podcast studio. Six ISO camera feeds plus the switched program feed, all 1080p at 30fps, written directly to the T7 during the session rather than transferred afterward. Seven simultaneous video streams and no dropped frames, no write errors, no drive dropping off mid-record. Transfers off it are fast. A 100GB video folder came across in about a minute, and running two transfers at once — audio folder and video folder simultaneously — didn't cause any stalling. It formatted cleanly to exFAT, which is what you want if the drive moves between a recorder and a computer, or between Mac and Windows. On heat, since it comes up in every review: it gets warm during long recording sessions. Not hot enough to be a problem, not hot enough to burn you. Writing that much data continuously generates heat and it has to go somewhere — I'd rather it end up in the drive's own enclosure than back into the machine. I can't confirm whether write speed throttled during recording since I had no way to monitor it live, but nothing dropped and every file came out intact. Included cable is a proper data cable, not a charge-only one, so it hits rated speed out of the box. That's worth noting because plenty of drives ship with junk cables. Small enough to disappear into a bag, no external power needed.

Lightweight, fast, and perfect for storing photos and videos!
Lightweight, fast, and perfect for storing photos and videos! I do a lot of video and photo work on my phone, so having a portable SSD that’s lightweight is a huge plus. The transfer speeds are extremely fast, which makes moving large files quick and painless. It works smoothly with my phone and computer, and I love that it’s shock-resistant and durable. It also runs completely silent - no noise at all - which I really appreciate when I’m working. For anyone who works with videos, photos, or large files, this SSD is an excellent choice. It’s reliable, compact, and offers plenty of storage without adding extra bulk. Considering the performance and quality, the value for money is great!

Fast, Portable SSD Lifesaver for M1 MacBook Air and M4 Mac Mini Storage Woes
I snagged the Samsung T7 Portable SSD (1TB, Gray) about five months ago from Amazon during a sale (~$90) to tackle storage limits on my 2020 MacBook Air M1 (16GB/256GB) and 2024 Mac mini M4 (16GB/256GB). As a web dev hobbyist training local AI models (e.g., Phi-3 Mini on my blog archives), I needed quick, reliable external space without slowing down my macOS Sequoia workflow. After reformatting to APFS in Disk Utility, it's been a seamless daily driver—plug-and-play via USB-C, no Samsung software required. Here's my experience from months of heavy use. Pros: Speed is the star—real-world reads/writes hit 850–950 MB/s direct into my Air's USB-C or Mini's Thunderbolt 4, blasting through 50GB ML datasets in under a minute (way faster than my old HDD). The 1TB capacity swallows backups, Python environments, and 4K video projects effortlessly, freeing my internals for active work. At pocket-sized (2.3 x 1.5 inches, 2 oz), it's perfect for shuttling between my portable Air and stationary Mini—no bulk for coffee-shop coding. The gray metal body with rubber grip shrugs off desk bumps, and it stays cool during long transfers. On my UGREEN Revodok 105 hub (for the Air's HDMI/charging setup), it runs stable via USB-A 3.0 (500 MB/s), but direct USB-C shines. Cross-platform? ExFAT default works great for Windows file shares with family. For the price, it's unbeatable value—durable, encrypted (hardware AES 256-bit), and future-proof for Apple Silicon. Cons: Out-of-box exFAT is fine, but reformatting to APFS (GUID scheme) is a must for Mac optimization—takes 5 minutes in Disk Utility, but newbies might skip it and see slower speeds. Theoretical 1,050 MB/s drops a bit on M1 USB-C (due to single-lane limits), but still blazing vs. competitors. The short USB-C cable (6 inches) means desk cable management, and no IP rating for water (grab the T7 Shield if outdoorsy). Tip: For M1/M4 Macs, erase/reformat to APFS right away (Disk Utility > Erase > APFS, GUID). Connect direct to USB-C for max speed; use with a hub like UGREEN's for multi-peripheral setups. Great for Time Machine—set it up in System Settings for automated backups. If sharing with Windows, stick to exFAT. This T7 is a no-brainer for Apple users needing portable power on a budget. It transformed my cramped setups into smooth-sailing storage havens. If you're juggling AI data or creative files, buy it—you won't regret!

Fast, Reliable, and Compact — The Perfect External SSD
I’ve been using the Samsung T7 Portable SSD (1TB) for a year now, and it’s hands-down one of the best storage devices I’ve owned. Whether you’re a photographer moving large RAW files, a video editor needing quick transfers, or just someone who wants fast, reliable backups, the T7 hits the mark in every category. Performance Speed is the biggest selling point here, and the T7 delivers. With USB 3.2 Gen 2 support, I consistently see read and write speeds in the 900+ MB/s range when connected to compatible devices. Real-world use backs it up—transferring large batches of photos or video files is smooth and snappy. What used to take minutes on a traditional external hard drive now takes seconds. It’s also incredibly responsive for everyday tasks. I’ve used it to run applications, store active project files, and even as a scratch disk for video editing. It handles everything without hesitation. Portability and Design The T7 is sleek, lightweight, and about the size of a stack of business cards. It slips easily into any bag or even a pocket, making it ideal for travel or working on the go. Despite its size, it feels sturdy, with a metal body that gives it a premium, durable feel. I’ve dropped it once (accidentally) from desk height, and it didn’t even leave a scratch—both the drive and the files were perfectly fine. Samsung includes both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables, so it’s compatible with just about anything out of the box. I’ve used it with a MacBook, Windows PC, and even a tablet—no issues on any platform. Security and Software Samsung offers optional password protection with AES 256-bit encryption through its software, which is great if you’re storing sensitive data. The setup is straightforward, and the interface is clean. That said, you can also just use it as a plug-and-play drive without ever touching the software—it’s flexible depending on how you want to use it. Reliability After heavy, regular use, the drive hasn’t missed a beat. No corrupted files, no dropped connections, no strange noises (as you’d get with spinning hard drives)—just consistent, solid performance. It stays cool under load and reconnects instantly when switching between devices. I’ve also appreciated that it doesn’t need an external power source—it draws what it needs directly from the device it’s plugged into. ⸻ Pros: • Blazing-fast read/write speeds (up to ~1,000 MB/s) • Compact, lightweight, and durable aluminum design • Plug-and-play across Windows, macOS, and more • Comes with both USB-C and USB-A cables • Optional password protection with AES encryption • Completely silent operation • No external power source needed Cons: • Maximum speeds require USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (slower on older ports) • Included software is basic (fine for most users but not feature-rich) • Costs more than standard hard drives (but well worth it for the speed and reliability) ⸻ Final Thoughts The Samsung T7 1TB Portable SSD is one of those rare tech products that does exactly what it promises—and does it exceptionally well. It’s fast, reliable, and thoughtfully designed. Whether you’re using it for work, backups, or media storage, it’s a hassle-free solution that feels like a real upgrade over older external drives. It’s not the cheapest storage option out there, but if speed, portability, and peace of mind matter to you, it’s easily worth the investment. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

*REVIEW AIMED FOR GAMING USAGE OF THIS SSD*
So, I've recived this SSD a week ago and i have used it extensively on Long Gaming sesions (Around 3-4+ hrs) On Online Muliplayer Games (like Destiny 2) And i haven't expereince any Overheating issues or Frame drops AT ALL. The SSD comes with 2 different Cable Combos depending on your system and it's meant usage: USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB. (IF YOUR SETUP SUPPORTS IT, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TO USE THE USB-C TO USB-C CABLE BECAUSE THAT CABLE IS THE ONE WITH THE FASTEST SPEED.) And honestly, I was amazed when i opened the package and saw the variety of cable options it has because other competitors from what i saw dont offer more that 1 cable and this product comes with 2 cable options so that's a +1 for me. The SSD desing it's small as it claims to be it's super light so it will fit every space you put it on and it won't look ugly like other SDD's Desings out there. The only incovinience i had with this Product it's that my SSD camed with a diffetent format (exFAT), I personally don't even know what that is but i did a bit of research and if you meant to use this SSD i totally recommend you to switch or double check the SSD's current format because i learned that after i downloaded 4+ games into it and had to re-download them after i realized that because if you switch formats it will delete everything you install and let me tell you, Switching exFAT to NTFS (The format you should be using) it makes this SSD be a BEAST. I played on it before i switch formats and it loaded games really quick but it wasn't until i changed format that this SSD really started to shine in all it's glory. PS: BE SUPER CAREFULL BEFORE OPENING THE SSD PRODUCT BOX BECAUSE IT COMES WRAPED IN A WAY THAT IT YOU OPEN IT WHILE STANDING OR ON A HIGH PLACE IT COULD DROP TO THE GROUND, Luckly i was sitting on a chair and it landed on my lap. Also, as an optional suggestion i put my SSD on top of 2 small Lego pieces just so it could have decent airflow in case it starts to hear up

Fast and Light device
Got this delivered in 5 days (from US to Singapore), i would say pretty fast shipping. Slightly disappointed as the box is quite badly damaged in transit, but item inside remains fine. Came with 2 cables, usb a or usb c options. Used the usb c option to connect to my macbook air. did some transfers and also used it as a time machine back up. Although I didn't measure it, it seemed fast enough and I am pleased with the performance of it. Nice blue color, super light and smaller than credit card size. (thicker for sure). Runs a little hot during long transfers so hope it stands up to use. Price of this item fluctuates quite a bit so if you are not urgent, monitor for a good time to buy.

Turbo charged a slow Mac
Bought this to deal with a slow iMac. Although only just over two years old, my iMac was painfully slow to boot up (usually taking 5 mins or more), get Mail and open programmes like Pages. I had long discussions with Apple support (who were great) but never really improved the situation very much. However, one of their staff said he ran his old Mac from an external SSD and he suggested I did the same. Hence buying the Samsung drive. It has been a revelation and the Mac is an entirely new machine, with a boot up time of less than a minute and near instant opening programmes and downloading Mail. It’s been brilliant and well worth the effort. The Samsung drive is tiny, a little larger than a credit card so it hides away under the Mac. Very pleased indeed.
