Similar to an earlier version
Trapping feral kitties who set up their tiny trio on my porch for TNR. Set up two traps for the mother daughter duo. As the stray, meaning dumped male, Sylvester, asked to come in the house to the kennel rather than walk into the carrier. He’s had a successful vet appointment. For the traps, set two up next to each other. The cats are use to me calling them for food. Upon working in their habits since November to make trapping easy. Today’s the day. Cat walked in this trap. Toward the wild caught sardines. Trap didn’t close. Cat walked out. As though she suspected something. Despite the traps being outside tied open for a month until we could get an appointment. Trap hack for quick release, add Vaseline to the hinge when set. Experienced trapper taught me this to help. Compared to the older version this trap is a little harder to close leaning on the floor panel. Upon setting have tested the trap a few times. Compared to the other that’s not been used yet this one requires more weight. Added wild caught tuna to the older trap. It closed easy peasy. Easily nabs the little lady. She feels so safe on the porch from working on grooming the cats for this event she didn’t wince when it shut. Kept enjoying her tuna. Meaning less stress for her. She didn’t freak when I walked up to cover her with a baby sheet. The only thing that the trap, old or new, doesn’t have is a clip to hold the gate closed. A friend lent me a trap that has a clip. Used a piece of wire to tie it shut. Since Tschuss tried to slip out. Her name means goodbye in German. The kitties aren’t very hefty despite eating well this winter. This one kitty probably weighs about eightish pounds and is less than a year. Maybe nine months. Tschuss was on the panel that should have helped shut the trap. Added more Vaseline and hoping this new trap works for kitty number two by tomorrow night for their Thursday appointment. Happy with the trap configuration. Like that the back opens and has a wire clip to create a sturdy back end. Easy to set. Only issue is the trap requires a little extra pressure to close. Hoping this next kitty will full court pressure the panel to help the cage close. Good deal. Should work long term when nabbing other kitties when they show up for TNR.

Great for CA ground squirrels
Well I like the effectiveness of the trap mechanism. So far we caught 9 squirrels in 3 days. 1 small one escaped the trap, my guess squeezed himself through door and side wall, 1 fatality probably stress, and the other 7 released fine. I’ve used these types of traps before for rats and they get messy quick. I’m not into smearing peanut butter or other items you can’t clean easily, that will attract flies. I put the trap on the ground in front of their burrows, throw a few peanuts around the trap entrance, toss a couple more inside to lure them in and then place a good size pile behind the far end of the trigger plate so they have to pass over the plate to get to it. I cover the trap with branches from my trees and usually takes less than an hour before one wanders in. Appreciate the tutorial video on how to set up. Without the video, I probably would have sent it back. Once I figured out the trap and how it works, it’s super simple and only takes seconds to reset. As others have mentioned, the trigger might need some “adjusting”. Mine was too close to the cage wall not allowing the door to fall. Some pliers, a little squeeze, and works just fine now. Update…going on a week and 19 squirrels captured. Trap works just as good as when it trapped the first one. I did buy a camo net to cover the trap in lieu of branches that became a pain after about the 3rd time. They’re going in the trap all the same with the net. B don’t be stingy with the peanuts. Squirrels are hoarders. I doubt 1 or 2 is gonna do it. I’m putting 8-12 in front of cage door. Another 5-7 inside the cage and 12-15 piled up in the back behind the trigger. Once trapped, they stop eating.
