Are these the same species as sea monkeys?

Accepted Answer

No. Sea Monkeys are a man-made hybrid species of brine shrimp known as Artemia NYOS. Although both are species of brine shrimp, the species created to be the Sea-Monkey combined the best traits of several species that provide shelf stability in any environment and allowed them to hatch in record time without aeration.

Question 2

How long do the vials last if you don't put them in water? I'm wondering if I buy them in advance for my fish, if they have babies.

I did notice a decrease in hatching quantities over time after opening the little jar. I highly recommend setting up a system with two seperate chambers with airation if you are raising fish. It's difficult to keep them alive for more than a few days, they start to stick together with a goop they naturally make and there is no real source of food for them, they are the food lol. I purchased these for growing triops one of my favorite hobbies.

Will the salt solution for hatching the eggs kill my snails in the tank?

I don't fully understand your question, are you going to try and raise these in fresh water? if so, then yes it will most likely kill your snails.the easy solution is go to walmart and buy a tank like I did, I bought the same tank others have said to try for ten dollars, pump included and use that. I finally got a few batches to hatch, but they take weeks from start to finish as they are super tiny to begin with. I gave up on hatching and now use the "walmart tank" to buy three portions of brine so I don't have to go a few times a week, good luck!  len

can they hatch from the water i use in my reef aquarium? Will they survive saltwater?

These are brine shrimp eggs; the species lives in saltwater. That being said, they are normally hatched in water that has not been aged. While water from your aquarium might do the trick, a freshly-mixed batch of saltwater would likely produce a better hatch rate. By the way, the Internet is full of information on hatching brine shrimp; YouTube is a good source (note: Sea Monkeys are brine shrimp).
