POWDER 1995

Love this movie. One of my top ten to watch. Reminds me of someone I know (not an albino). Sean Patrick Flanery did an excellent job playing Powder. His emotions, sadness, wanting for a human connection is easily seen in his performance. A story of how people's fear of the unusual and extraordinary, the impossible, can turn to evil. It's a good story and a good curl up on the couch movie with your significant other or even your kids. Teach them that just because someone is different looking and doesn't fit societies model of "normal", they still feel pain and should be understood, not misunderstood. You might just like them and find out they are more normal than they appear....A+

Sean Patrick Flannery plays our protagonist nicknamed “Powder“ due to his incredible albinoism along with a lack of body hair. SPOILER: Powder is born to an uneducated and mentally-stressed father who just lost his wife/the mother giving childbirth... When the father sees his albino son, he rejects him and we can see this child is extremely different in that the newborn infant responds to the rejection. Umpteen years later, Powder is working his grandparent’s farm where he has self-educated himself with a substantial library of books which he has memorized. His grandfather dies and authorities are called… Lance Hendrickson as the sheriff with a wife who is dying from cancer and in a coma and his redneck xenophobe deputy who enjoys abusing his authority and harasses Powder throughout the movie are managing the neighbors/spectators while they have called in a social specialist (Mary Steenburgen) who is very sweet and dedicated to provide sanctity and structure for this now homeless boy ~ by placing him in a boy’s home. Naturally, there are bullies and one who is the leader and wants to harass Powder... Powder amazes the entire cafeteria filled with these boys with his response to the harassment. Of course, being in an uneducated rural area we can expect a poor response to someone as amazing as Powder. He shows many different talents no other human has and only causes more trouble for himself almost every time. Jeff Goldblum as one of his teachers is a strong kind advocate for Powder. Needless to say, Powder has a terrible time dealing with average uneducated people who do not realize what a powerful prodigy Powder is... So we have lots of distressing drama ~ all the acting is exemplary. This is an excellent drama with Syfy entwined... I believe this movie was poorly presented to the public, but I believe it will become a cult movie. This is a GREAT MOVIE and the PRICE is INCREDIBLE! A very worthy purchase and something you can you show the entire family!

Sicher werde ich mir diesen Film noch oft ansehen! Allein durch die Tatsache, das zwei meiner Lieblingsschaupieler, nämlich Lance Henriksen und Jeff Goldblum agieren, ist dieser Film für mich interessant. Aber "Powder" bietet sehr viel mehr: Durch Sci-Fi- und Mystery- Aspekte im Film wird die Botschaft, Menschen und Wesen so anzunehmen, wie sie sind, noch mehr betont und zun einem Gleichnis. Der Film zeigt das Schicksal eines besonderen Menschen mit außergewöhnlichen Gaben, der sich aufgrund seines auffallenden Äußeren nicht hinter der Maske des Durchschnittsmenschen verstecken kann um unauffällig in der Masse unterzutauchen. Der Zuschauer lernt die vielen Facetten der Reaktionen auf Andersartigkeit kennen, die möglich sind: von Hass über Angst, Grausamkeit zu Mitleid bis Liebe. Ich würde, falls möglich, diesem Film noch weitere Sternchen geben und das Prädikat "Wertvoll". Der Film brilliert durch seine Darsteller, Patrick Flanery ist genial in der Hauptrolle, Lance Henrikson (bekannt durch seine Rolle als Frank Black in der Mystery-Serie "Millenium") und Jeff Goldblum scheinen ihre Rollen auf den Leib geschrieben zu sein. Leider können viele der Menschen, die aus einem solchen Film lernen sollten, mit solchen Filmen nicht viel anfangen und sehen sie sich gar nicht erst an. So ist es sicher wieder nur das Publikum, dass diesen Film lieben wird, das sowieso bereits so denkt, wie es eigentlich durch den Film vermittelt werden soll. Die Botschaft wird somit nur von denen vernommen, die sie schon längst kennen... Noch eine kleine Randbemerkung: Ich weiß nicht, ob Absicht dahinter steckt, aber die Geschichte dieses Wesens "Powder" erinnert mich "irgendwie" an die Geschichte des Michael Jackson....

Un film che a quanto pare solo in pochi ricorderanno. L'ho cercato tanto ma l'ho trovato solo in lingua inglese da Amazon. Se si ha un po' di padronanza con la lingua, i sottotitoli possono aiutare nella comprensione. In italiano sarebbe stato del tutto diverso... più ricco e più passionale.... Indicato per animi sensibili che sanno cogliere le sfumature ed il messaggo del film.
