Friday the 13th Collection [Blu-ray]

I originally wasn't going to purchase this set, simply because I own the previous sets on both DVD and Blu-ray (From Crystal Lake to Manhattan as well as the tin that was released by Warner Bros. a few years back). I used to double-dip all the time when Blu-ray was a new format, and lately I've had little desire to shell out hard-earned cash for upgrades to movies I already own. That being said, something that is sorely lacking on most physical media today are the special features that made DVD collecting such a joy back in the day. When I saw how many new features were being added to this set, not to mention that most, if not all of the features from prior releases were being carried over, it was a no-brainer. Not even the Star Wars Blu-ray sets were that generous. I'm not big on audio commentaries, but Shout! went way overboard here. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives has four (!) audio commentaries alone. I noticed many of the new commentaries feature people who until now have been pretty elusive, like actress Kerry Noonan (Paula from Part VI) and Steve Miner (director of Parts 2 and 3). The two bonus discs would have been enough to satisfy most fans, but each film comes with its own batch of new and old interviews. The big selling point for me was getting both R-rated and unrated cuts of the original film and Jason Goes to Hell. With Part 1, I actually prefer the theatrical version. With the additional shots added to the unrated cut, Tom Savini's killer make-up is exposed more than it should be, which ruins the illusion for me. To my knowledge, this is the first time both versions have been available on Blu-ray, so it's nice to finally have the option (although most of the new special features ARE on the unrated disc). I still own my Jason Goes to Hell DVD, which DOES include the unrated cut, so I was a little bummed when they didn't carry it over to the original Blu-ray release. It's been reported that one shot is actually missing, which is where Shout's disc replacement program comes into play. The shot in question, where the character Ward has his wrist snapped in half, is undeniably one of the more gruesome shots of the unrated cut, so I understand why it's a an issue that it wasn't included. But we are talking about two or three seconds, so it isn't a particular deal breaker. The other nice addition, which would have been great about five years ago, is the inclusion of Friday the 13th Part III in stereoscopic 3D. It's bittersweet to see this, because they don't quite make 3D TVs anymore, so most of the people who want to see the film in true 3D already own these televisions. It would have been nice if Shout! included both the newer 3D version, as well as the anaglyph (the blue and red) 3D for those of us who missed out on the 3D revolution (sarcasm). As far as the 4K scans of the first four films go, understand that these are not 4K Blu-rays. You're still getting a 1080p presentation, but they were sourced from new 4K masters, so technically they should look superior to the last Blu-ray release. Personally, I didn't notice a huge difference, since these films were made on shoestring budgets and were mostly shot at night. That being said, the picture quality gets a slight boost during the daytime scenes, but I wouldn't go after this set merely for the new transfers. There's only so much you can do to low-budget 80's horror films. Each movie also gets its own disc, as opposed to the previous sets where two movies shared a single disc. That in itself should give each film a bump in quality. I also dig the artwork on each individual Blu-ray, as the covers mostly resemble what the films looked like back in the VHS glory days (with the exception of Part V, which uses that awesome theatrical poster as opposed to that weird VHS cover with the strange hockey mask that never appears in the actual film). Bottom line: aside from the extremely minute errors with three of the films (which Shout! has already addressed with a disc replacement program, free of charge), I can't see any reason to pass this up, especially given how rare these kinds of sets can be a year or so after the fact. If you're still interested in watching Part III in 3D without an expensive set, keep your old tin, but this makes a great addition to your horror collection. However, buy it for the extensive features and the awesome presentation, and not for the 4K scans, because unless you're a huge stickler for detail, I don't think the new scans makes a ton of difference, given that these are still technically standard Blu-rays. I'll keep it short and sweet. This set comes from Shout! Factory, also known as Scream! Factory for its horror releases. What you get in this set is Friday the 13th 1-8 from Paramount Pictures, and from New Line Cinema, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Freddy Vs. Jason, Friday the 13th Killer Cut (reboot/remake), and a two-disc set of special features. All in all, you'll receive 16 Blu-ray discs (1080p) in total. The first Friday will come with two discs, one for the Theatrical and one for the Unrated versions. This will also be the case for Jason goes to Hell. All 12 films will come in individual cases placed in a very sturdy beautiful carboard sleeve with very intricate artwork of Jason from all the films. In addition to the films, there will be a collectors' manual/book placed at the end of the sleeve. The poster and the lithograph that initially came with this set are not included as they were in limited quantities and sold-out back in 2020. When this set was initially released, there were some slight errors on three of the discs: Friday 3-D, Jason Goes to Hell Unrated, and Jason X. Those were replaced back then by Scream! factory through a program that doesn't exist anymore. However, my set came with an R1 (Revision 1) sticker on the bottom of the box. The three discs in question will also show R1 on their respective serial numbers on the fronts of the discs. This leads me to believe most sets sold today have already been corrected. What else? Oh yeah...Friday 3-D is really in 3-D if you have the proper equipment for that. I don't. lol I'm not gonna rate the films because this is a set that is obviously for die-hard fans and not the casual movie watcher or collector. Because of that fact, I only recommend it to die-hard fans. If you just want to own the collection without these extra features. Get the cheaper Blu-ray set for $40 minus the New Line cinema films as they are not really in the spirit of Paramount's work anyway. Better yet, just get a DVD set for like 15 bucks if you are just looking for some Halloween fun. No use overspending just to see the films.

So, I’m a huge horror fan but also a Friday The 13th fan, when I found out about this box set I was excited to purchase buuuuuut after reading reviews on here and other places, I was 50/50 about buying it. I initially didn’t wanna do it but as I was thinking about me getting this eventually, I bought it. When it arrived it was in a small box with good packaging as you can tell by the picture (I was seeing whether or not my iPhone marker was working on the barcode haha), I opened up each case and disc and they were all good. Though Part 6’s case had a small scratch on the plastic but nothing big or anything. So for this section overall, a solid 9/10. Now, one of the biggest worries about this set is Part 3’s, Jason Goes To Hell’s and Jason X’s discs. You may be wondering why? Well, when this set first released, those discs had issues. Part 3’s intro wouldn’t work properly when viewing in 3D, JGTH would have a missing scene and X would have an audio malfunction at the sleeping bag part. Scream / Shout factory eventually sent out replacement discs through a program online that resolved this. Some people even bought the set with the original AND replacement discs inside. For this Amazon one in this case, the replacement discs are the ones you WILL get. So no need to worry about that, but if you ask how am I sure? The replacement discs will have “R1” at the end of the serial number on the discs as shown on the pictures. This will tell you whether or not they are the replacement discs aka the ones you want. Overall a 9.5/10 for me personally. Per other reviews, you kind of take a gamble I guess whether or not you receive a damaged or undamaged box set. Is it worth it? Absolutely! if you love physical media and/or are a Friday The 13th fan. I say go for it, I paid around $141 for it and I love it!

It is so comprehensive, as far as bonus material goes! The only thing missing from this great boxed set, content-wise, is the 6-hour documentary Crystal Lake Memories, and that's only because Shout! Factory/Scream! Factory were probably not able to strike a licensing deal with it's distributor. That's a shame. But, honestly? There's so much other amazing bonus material in this set that it's really only a minor quibble on my part. Also, the first four films have gotten brand spanking new 4K restorations. And, both versions of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday have been given new 2K restorations. Considering the ages of the films themselves, the new restorations look great! Not perfect, mind you. Again, you have to take the age of each of the films in question into consideration. But, this is probably the best they have looked since their original theatrical releases, if not better. Kudos to Shout! Factory on a job well done! It's also really nice that we get new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks on many of the films, as well as their original theatrical audio tracks, too! Please note: the blu-ray discs for Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th (2009) that are included in this set are reprints of the original Warner Bros./New Line Cinema/Paramount blu-ray disc releases of the two films. While they do have new disc artwork, the actual contents of the discs have not been altered in any way, shape or form from those original releases. Last, but not least, I'd like to give a shout-out to the YouTube content creator Jeff Rauseo. His channel (formerly called Films at Home, now just Jeff Rauseo) is all about all-things blu-ray and 4K UHD blu-ray. And, Jeff puts out some great videos about physical movie collecting, and his thoughts on the state of the industry in general, as well as an occasional release disc review. If not for all of the great deals that he posts on his channel's community page, I would not have been aware of this boxed set's price drop down to just $90 here on Amazon in October of 2021. Thank you again, Jeff! You and your channel are a priceless resource to the blu-ray and 4K UHD blu-ray collecting community!

Shout out to Shout Factory for this collection of one of the most iconic horror figures, Jason Voorhees! All 12 movies, not 13(?), with 4K for the original 4 chapters. Then, "A New Beginning" came along. Then, "Jason Lives", "The New Blood", well.. Jason vs. Carrie, then "Jason Takes Manhattan ". From 1980-1989, there were 8 films total. Then comes the "second" final chapter, "Jason Goes To Hell", which was released in 1993. Im sorry, Jason x, is my very last one to watch! But, this box set has everything and more. The 1st 4 films are 4k remastered with the original mono audio or the 5.1 master audio because it's fuller and scarier, thanks ti Harry Manfredini. You get the original and theatrical cuts of Friday the 13th (1980), Jason Goes To Hell (1993), and the 2009 remake! A whole weekend of extras! And a 60 page booklet about the entire franchise! Highly recommended!

Shout Factory's 'Friday the 13th' collection is excellent if you're a fan of the films. They're loaded with extras, some of which were on previous releases, but I missed out on the 2013 blu-ray collection, and I avoided buying any discs separately because I assumed a set like this would eventually be released. The big selling point for me is the inclusion of Part 3 presented in the format for active 3D shutter glasses/3D TVs as opposed to the anaglyph (red/blue) of previous releases. Having gone through them, I'm especially fascinated by the 'behind-the-scenes' Part 7 extra. I consider it the last GREAT 'Friday the 13th' film. and John Carl Buechler's proposed sequel probably would have fared better then what we eventually wound up with. I also appreciate Elizabeth Kaitan's appearance, as well as Shaver Ross's appearance for the Part V BTS, as this series probably isn't high on their list of lifetime achievements, but much respect from a fan. Anyway, following Lar's character, 'Tina', might've been interesting and better than what we got in Part 8, which, like the other two big 80's slasher's (Elm Street & Halloween) basically killed its' respective series in '89. Discs, cases, and box all arrived fine. The transfers of the films look fine. Saw some complaints about a shot missing from the unrated version of Jason Goes to Hell... I guess if you're a big 'Jason Goes to Hell' fan, that might be a deal breaker, but it's also possible, if not probable, that you have bigger problems if you actually like JGTH.

Bel packaging, buona la qualità video, pur essendo master molto vecchi e già di bassa qualità all'origine, la shout è riuscita a fare un buon lavoro, peccato per il suono mono per i primi film, ma più di tanto non si può pretendere. La seconda versione delle cover a mio avviso è praticamente inutile. Da non dimenticare che c'è tutto quello riguarda Jason, compresi i film più recenti, freddy Vs jason ed il reboot friday the 13th 2009. Elogio al venditore che si è prestato a darmi intero supporto per una transazione veloce professionale ed amichevole.

All the movies in one place , great extras and a couple of unrated versions as well

This is my rundown of whether you should buy this collection in light of the problems reported by customers, whether you own previous box sets and my own buying experience. I ordered this from Amazon US and it arrived within a week, that's a week early. I paid just under £100, and because Amazon US clear customs fees, you will have no Vat/duty to pay in the UK. The boxset arrived in a small rigid box, not much bigger, with a little airplus padding included. In terms of what you're getting here: 16 bluray discs, 13 amaray cases, a hard case and a colour booklet. I own all the previous deluxe/limited edition F13th collections as well as other collectable memorabilia : the hardback Crystal Lake Memories book (Titan Books), the Making of Friday the 13th book (Fab Press), Crystal Lake Memories 4 disc bluray set (missed out on the limited edition with bonus dvd interviews) , His Name Was Jason dvd, the original R1 From Crystal Lake to Manhattan Ultimate Edition dvd set , the previous limited Complete Collection bluray tin, as well as the 8-movie bluray collection which was a cut price version. I also own the CD soundtracks (score only unfortunately) of parts 1-5, just wish the others were re-released in the same pressed (and not CD-R) format and that we got all those typically great 80s songs included for all those movies. Despite this I still picked this boxset up - see below*. Let's tackle the criticisms : problem discs - agree it's an oversight and a little hassle but just take 10mins to use the replacement programme (I got shipment confirmation within a day, just hope they actually arrive!), marks on discs - agree there were some minor marks on some discs but nothing too worrying and the marks on the bonus discs do clean off (for some reason the inside of the bonus disc case had a layer of dust/powder unlike the others, needless to say I cleaned it with a dry cloth), damaged sleeves - yes just one but not torn just a little crumpled, lack of new extras - agree for people like me who own all previous best versions (*see above) you're not gaining too much here but there are still great new extras to be had, strength of outer case - the case is strong enough but the real problem is the careless 'fans' who will slam this around and completely tear the shrink-wrap off and thus lose their protection - as evidenced by the countless neanderthals doing unboxing vids on the web (being meticulous with belongings is a key attribute of any true fan, for example the first film memorabilia I bought in my teens back in the 80s is still in perfect condition, nor do I leave my film collection out unprotected on shelves to collect dust and fade like most do), lack of uncut films - agree this is a major frustration and even though we have more deleted scenes here they aren't comprehensive - for example Part 2 (this is what happens when a major studio is involved with making/distributing exploitation films - Elm St 5 anyone?), damage in transit - either I was lucky or Amazon US have listened to criticism as even the corners of my slipcase were spot on and no amaray was cracked, clear instead of blue amarays - just an example of the lunacy out there, duplicate/missing films - no problem with Amazon US as all the films were present and correct (my mate who bought direct from Shout Factory suffered duplicate/missing films - seems Amazon bothers to check before dispatch as I've not read a single example of this happening on this website). One little point I want to make is I'm a little disappointed that the sleeve artworks aren't always 100% authentic to that of the theatrical/VHS ones (in particular part 5). In addition it would have been nice to have had a few Cds of all those songs featured in the movies over the years (none of which made it to the CD scores). So for the price I paid, I would say this is well worth it. It's not without it's faults: the minor hassle of getting corrected discs, maybe lacking in new extras, still no sign of fully uncut versions for all movies (they will probably never materialise for nothing other than politically motivated reasons, and not because the footage is truly 'lost'), but it's the best out there, and the only set to finally offer worthy packaging for each movie. What's the alternative? Stick with the cheaper 8 movie bluray set and miss out on the remaining films (personally for me, as someone who was around when the original came out, 1-9 are masterpieces, 10 is flawed with CGI nonsense but still good and the last film which feels authentically 'F13th' enough, F vs J and the reboot are typically post-modern and thus a big step down in quality, still good for their era, but don't feel like part of the franchise), or the tin (which I paid £87 for brand new and was riddled with problems, not least tightly held scratched discs and packaging that left alot to be desired). Buying from Amazon US proved to be a perfect transaction and experience for me. At the price I paid, it offered solid value for money, and the disc replacement programme was easily used. So all in all, do what a true fan would do and pick it up while it's still 'cheap' !!! UPDATE 17/5/2021. I ordered my replacement discs online on 22/4/21. The discs had UPS tracking but despite requesting text/email updates, the tracking only goes up to the discs arriving in the UK Airport. So for me, my discs arrived in Heathrow on 2/5/21. They took till 17/5/21 to arrive at my property, which says something about how professional and efficient Americans are compared to us. I had emailed Disc Shipment on a few occasions and they were very quick and courteous with replies. I am however, disgusted that the three discs are each shipped in paper sleeves then packed in a tiny, flexible card envelope (it didn't even say 'do not bend' or 'fragile' on it) . My discs did arrive in perfect condition though and after zipping through each disc, films and all extras, they played perfectly- this is a small miracle considering the shocking lack of care in how they were shipped. Your replacement discs can be identified by looking at around the edge of each disc - they will have a 'R1' at the end of the numbers. Be aware Disc Shipment say you will receive the replacement discs within 25 working days of shipping, so mine came early.

O box é maravilhoso, a qualidade de som e imagem dos filmes está impecável, do 1 ao 4 com novas restaurações em 4k e do 5 em diante mesmo não sendo nova restauração ainda assim estão com mais qualidade que as edições anteriores... E o melhor de tudo é que cada filme está em seu respectivo disco, nada de 2 filmes no mesmo blu-ray. Além de tudo isso ainda temos um farto material extra. Recomendo!!!!!
