With internal CD/DVD player/recorders becoming less common in PCs and Laptops, there is an even greater need for these USB external ones, and at around £20 this burner fills the gap. This unit has a short captive connecting lead underneath with both a USB-A plug and USB Type-C. As well as the optical drive it has 2 x USB-A sockets an SD and a micro SD reader. The latter sockets have no spring stop so just push them to the end. The disk drive, USB ports and both SD and micro SD sockets worked fine with Windows 10 OS, but if your connecting device is unstable or in need of more power, a micro USB socket on the back, and a lead is supplied. This means you connect both to the USB 3 and USB 2 sockets on your PC/Laptop. To play DVDs I downloaded VLC media player and this unit played the DVDs without a problem. I like this and it’s a good price for what you get.

The unit is compact and lightweight. It is a plug and play unit which is easy to use, even for someone who is not an IT expert. The only issue, being really critical, is that the cable would not fit flush in the space under the unit, which meant the unit 'wobbled' a bit when on a flat surface.

It arrived within only a few days! It works very well under Windows 10. The drive recommends VLC player which was already pre-installed on my computing device. It is a pretty quiet drive, too for its price class. It didn't need any extra drivers to be installed. Item is exactly as pictured. A bargain for those who need extra USB ports while using an external drive and card reader features. I haven't tried burning any DVD's yet but it works perfect with DVD films and tutorials on DVD. It was the right decision for me, so far, as it seems. The packaging is rather straight forward in a simple box, nothing fancy. Also, comes wrapped in bubble wrap.

This is the second portable CD writer I have tried from Amazon in the last month. Both said they were Windows 10 compatible. Both will read CDs but neither will write them!!! With this one I have tried three different burning programs and at least 5 blank CDs. None of the programs recognise this as a CD burner. I can't be sure but my guess is that, despite what the listing says, this burner is not Windows 10 compatible. The driver is 2006 and the instructions which come with the drive list only XP, Win2003, Win8, Vista, and Win 7 as compatibles, not Win 10. They also say 'this DVD/CD drive only directly supports Win7 burn'. They then go on to say that I will need 'burn software', which I take to mean apps like Nero, which I have.

Found some dvds lurking in a box and wanted to see what was on them but my laptop didn't have a drive. Ordered this drive as I didn't want anything too expensive and was really surprised at how simple it was to use. No software to load, no compatibility issues, just plug in and go! Only looked at data discs today, will be trying audio/visual tomorrow, but so far so good. Solid feel, neat little unit. Just read that it's a burner too, wow!

Bought this to read my many photos stored on discs. Does the business, but a a bit slow with a full disc.

This was so, so easy to use. Just plug in and go. I used it to install all my old original Sims games, Roller Coaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon onto my new Windows laptop that sadly doesn't have a disk drive. It's not too noisy when reading disks either. I couldn't say how well it works for watching dvds though, as I haven't tried using it for that. It comes neatly packed in a small box and the USB cable can be tucked away into a groove on the underside of the drive for easy storage. Brilliant!

Da das Notebook von meiner Frau kein DVD-Laufwerk hat, bin ich seit längerer Zeit auf der Suche nach einem extern Laufwerk und fand dieses Gerät zum Kaufen. Es ist einfach in der Bedienung, läuft einwandfrei. Kurz rum: ein ausgezeichnetes Gerät als Ergänzung zu einem Notebook ohne DVD-Laufwerk. Die meisten Notebooks haben seit einigen Jahren kein DVD-Laufwerk mehr. Empfehlenswert.

Je sais aujourd'hui il n'y a plus de lecteur sur les pc mais mois j ai préféré en acheter un externe je peut le mettre et enlever quand je veux il y a toujours un vieux cd à lire ou gravée des photos à sauvegarder on ne sait jamais moi je le trouve utile et pour le prix sa me convient
