How are these different than the tiles you can get at home depot or Lowes for 16 cents each??

The tiles provided by Aliand LLC are not from Home Depot. They made in the US and are the ones shown in the picture not in the cheap one shown in the complaint.

Do these have little knobs on the sides like the bathroom tiles at HD & the other hardware stores or are they smooth?

They are smooth and do have marks where the tabs were on too sides but they are smoothed . These are much more expensive however. I use mine for crafts and found some at tile outlet for 10 cents each.
