Discovering Music Theory, The ABRSM Grade 5 Workbook (Theory workbooks (ABRSM))

A while ago the ABRSM reviewed their syllabus for theory exams. They abandoned some ideas of composition and focused on the core elements: * Rhythm * Pitch * Keys and scales * Intervals * Chords * Terms and signs Each chapter is clearly laid out and gives examples to follow. Typically, the ABRSM are out to make more money from you, so you'll have to buy the answer book if you're doing it self-study.

Excellent to study before exam.

Used for revision of music theory prior to grade 6 flute exam. Well presented and easy to follow

Not bad.

Great workbook but don’t expect to magically pass the exam with this - you’ll need tuition too. In the end only copious amounts of money could drag my daughter over the finish line: a £180 zoom theory course, an app and this wretched book which we both wanted to burn at the end. Good for practice but won’t teach you. Think I have secondary PTSD from the whole experience of passing that god forsaken exam.

Its amazing

Well structured workbook. I bought with the G4 version to with through with my son (age 8). We did all the exercises and a couple of practice papers and he got a distinction (68/75). The Answer book is also useful as some ABRSM stuff isn't followed by all publishers so good to know that is exactly quite on there terms. Also handy is The AB Guide to Music Theory for reference.

I mean- it worked for me! I worked through the majority of the pages just to get a jist of what would be in the exam and then just took the test online - I got a distinction (long overdue)!

Though the shipping was a bit long it was exactly what I expected!

The ABRSM series books are really good for music theory beginners! I wish they remade Book 6-8 as well to continue the series….
