Netro Whisperer 2nd Gen Smart Plant Sensor, APP-Baed, WiFi Connected, Solar Powered for Outdoor Use

I did such an outstanding job during my complete lawn overhaul when simultaneously tilling deep into the clay layer below the dominant sandy top layer mixing the two layers together in order to provide some semblance of water retention for my grass. I completely forgot that I did that and thanks to the whisperer's moisture detection levels I've been able to identify that I have in fact been drowning my new lawns for over 2 years now resulting in extremely poor growth performance. I was baffled! I did everything right and went the extra mile on everything I did to insure amazing results. Well I followed the neighbors' around me and their watering schedulings like an idiot! No one does a complete lawn makeover like I did anymore as they all just order new grass and have their lawns sodded. Well, that means they all suffer from the same nasty sandy top layer that doesn't retain any water and they have to water the hell out of their lawns everyday to keep them green and growing. I lose such a trivial amount of soil moisture on a sunny hot day thanks to all of my previous efforts, and it was your sensors that solved the riddle!!!!!! Why NONE of my reseeding would survive. Why I had so many blank spots where sprinklers merged and overlapped when watering. My summer water bill is going to be a fraction of what it's been from now on, and i've already observed dramatic improvements in my lawn along with a seeding project that's actually working!!!! The customer service i've received has been OUTSTANDING!! Show the sensor blade the proper amount of respect when inserting and reinserting it into your lawn's soil as it is designed to disturb the least amount of your lawn/soil while leaving a minimal "footprint" as possible. The blade is not very thick so as long as you pay attention when inserting to verify you are going in perpendicular to the ground, and not at a funky angle, otherwise you will be putting unwarranted stress on the blade. When I was running around my yards collecting multiple sensor readings (as I am sure all new owners will initially do), in order to identify any trouble spots not receiving their proper irrigation, I broke a sensor blade. Customer service bent over backwards to assist me with a replacement ASAP. I started out purchasing 2 sensors to give them a shot, and now I have 4 because they are that AWESOME!!! The smart watering function is not immediate as the sensors have to "learn" your lawn's needs and once they collect enough data they begin to create an optimized watering schedule whilst simultaneously functioning as watchdogs with their persistent monitoring and intervening when additional waterings are needed!!!!

Ordered one. It set up and worked fine. Ordered a second and readings appeared way off compared to the first. Sent it back for a replacement. Received replacement, and the device again reported bad measurements. Temperature was reported as 486 degrees F and soil moisture at 1%. Unit finally decided to work, but only intermittently. After contacting them, received one email message from tech support with little advice. Finally, a very nice customer support agent agreed to send another replacement unit. I also ordered a third unit at this time. I received the two additional units, and they also worked fine. On reflection after experience with these new units, I believe I was in error in sending back the second unit. I concluded that it was bad based on distinctively different measurements from the first. Yet, it turns out that moving the unit around would likely have resolved the issue. In other words, I was too impatient in sending back the second unit. I now have three good units up and running. They all work fine, and are reporting reasonable numbers for light, temperature, and moisture. I now think that this is a GREAT product that, while expensive, will save me a lot of money spent on watering my lawn. They are well worth the price. The software is highly professional. Technical support could be better, but customer support is excellent. Thus, I highly recommend this product to any who are reluctant to buy.

Overall, it seems to be working great. However, we noticed there doesn’t appear to be a way to enable push notifications in the app. Right now, you have to open the app each time to see updates from the sensor. I wish they would add phone push notifications so users can receive alerts without needing to manually check the app. It seems like a basic and useful feature, so I’m not sure why it hasn’t been implemented yet.

The first thing the item received was the latest Whisper-2 revision, and I am glad for that. It took a little effort to get it recognized by the Netro program. I am glad they have a web version of the application, as setting it up for the circuits you want to have the sensor control is better on the laptop version. Why I got it was that I had an area that was underwatered, and the best solution I could think of was to get the sensor moisture meter to take charge of the amount of water applied. That area has improved in the time after I set up the sensor.

Can’t really speak to the performance characteristics of this item because it never worked. When I determined that the color it was flashing meant it needed to be charged I left it in direct sunlight for 12 hours. When that didn’t work I tried another 12 hours. When that didn’t work, another 12 hours. When that didn’t work I returned the item. Might be a great item, but, alas, I’ll never know.

Great product and great customer support

As per directions, on/off switch does not work as advertised. You need to remove plastic cap every time to turn on or off. Expect plastic cap will wear down rather quickly.

I have been running two of these along with a Netro Pixie. Setup was a pretty painful process. In order to set it up, one has to start the process in the Netro app, switch to the wifi settings to select the Whisperer, and then come back into the app to complete setup. However, it seems there was a bug with their Android app and between the second and third step, the state would be lost and one would have to log back into the app. But this was now impossible because of being connect to the Whisperer for wifi! My phone is quite new, so it wasn't the operating system shutting down the app due to memory. Ended up using split screen mode to have two apps on on the screen simultaneously in order to avoid the issue. The second thing I wish I had known is that you can only attach one Whisperer to a Pixie. I have two different flower beds attached to the same irrigation system and I was hoping to use two of the Whisperers, but only one is attached to the Pixie while the other is just on its own and only serves the purpose of providing data. Finally, make sure you don't let the battery get too low. One of my Whisperers was behind a plant and I didn't realize in time that it was running out of battery. The app provided no notification to indicate that I may want to place the device elsewhere to get a better charge. Since it discharged a week ago, I have not been able to get it to work again, even after leaving it out in the sun for several days. Overall, an interesting idea, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

Habe nun jede Zone mit einem Sensor ausgestattet und die Integration über die Netro API klappt auch. Einziger Manko bei mir ist/ war sie nicht mit dem Aufsitzrasenmäher zu schrotten ( ist mir nun schon 2x passiert ). Wichtig zu wissen, es gibt Whisperer und die neueren Whisperer 2.0. Beim Einstecken in den Boden Vorsicht, mir ist der Dreieck unten schon mal abgebrochen... Das könnte man am Produkt selbst verbessern. Ich bewässere mit dem Gesamtsystem nun ca 3000 qm Rasen und 5000 qm Garten. Paralle habe ich auch BHYVE im Einsatz, aber die Produkte von Netro sagen mir mehr zu und laufen stabiler.

Works perfectly with Netro SPARK, the USB charge before relying on solar is a great feature, and support was awesome when I had a senior's moment establishing and resetting Host mode on setup.

Funciona muy bien, controla la humedad y por tanto el riego, ahorrando agua y manteniendo las plantas y cesped en perfecto estado

E' arrivato oggi quindi lo devo ancora provare, a differenza degli altri sensori che ho, hanno aggiunto una porta usb per la ricarica, molto utile, il tasto posteriore per l'accensione e di gomma e copre perfettamente la presa usb. L'unica pecca, come sempre , mancano le istruzioni in Italiano, sono presenti solo in inglese e spagnolo, almeno potevano mettetele sul sito ufficiale. Tra qualche mese aggiornerò la recensione.
