Would a Sharpie smudge or Is the special pen required? Thinking of using these to mark water bottles at a party: is string long enough?

String should be long enough. Sharpie would work, just let it dry.

Is the material like plastic folders? Can I use ink stamps on these?

The material is plastic. Not good for ink stamp.

What material is the string?

Hard to explain, it's very strong, maybe like a fine smooth nylon type string. Maybe like a very strong heavy thread but no fraying. It's not like a burlap type string. Hope that helps somehow.

Can you erase and reuse the tag?

Not with the provided marker, you can't erase it.
