Thermometer leaked and failed within a weak
Update to this review. I received the improved version in about a month. It appears to be better sealed at the bottom. I have had it in my pool since receiving, about 5 months now. After sealing the threads with teflon tape, like I suggest below, no leakage what so ever and has been very reliable. Battery lasted about 5 months and I just replaced it and renewed the teflon tape at that time. Absolutely working flawlessly. I also cannot say enough about the customer service. They responded quickly and sent me the new model in a short time. I am upgrading this review to 5 stars. I purchased this product anticipating that it might leak based on other reviews but was looking for a better way of measuring pool temperature. It worked fine for the first few days except for being off a couple degrees high (air had barely been above 80F for a couple of weeks and cool at night and it was indicating 81F very unlikely. After it leaked I contacted customer service and they will be sending me an improved version. My recommendation is if you purchase this use teflon tape on the threaded connection. After it dried out, I cleaned and reassembled it with teflon tape. Has not leaked since but still have inaccurate issue (might be exacerbated by the leakage?).

Very Unhappy with this Product - Would Not Recommend - Zero Stars if it was possible
I am so unhappy with this product. I purchased it in November of 2021, as a Christmas Gift for my family for our new pool. We live in the Northeast, so we did not use this product until late May 2022, and the return window had already closed. The product worked great for a few weeks. Then the display window on the unit that goes into the pool became foggy with condensation. We checked, and the top was on securely. We opened it, let it dry and it seemed ok, except there was some brown sludge (not sure how else to describe it) inside the unit - just a little in the bottom, but I was able to get it out. Probably every 2-3 weeks after that point we would have to replace the battery in the unit that goes in the water. It was always low, and then would stop registering. The brown sludge situation grew worse and worse and we KNEW for certain the top was on tight. We do not have young children, nobody was messing with the unit that was hanging securely off the back of the ladder. I would give this zero stars if possible. For the couple days here and there that it actually worked, it was great. It was definitely handy to have the remote reader inside the house so we knew the pool temp, but it was unusable probably 90% of the summer. Lesson learned, I will not purchase a product that is going to be used for a future season in advance any longer, because the return window closed before we even used the product. NOT RECOMMENDED.

A New Approach to Ensure a Better Outcome - 2025 Update - Still Works Great!!
I really like the idea of wireless temperature monitoring for my inground saltwater pool and have bought a number of different brands in the last 4-5 years. None of the previous units have lasted more than 3-6 months during each summer and they all seem to eventually leak, corrode and then fail. In an effort to get a unit that lasts more than one season, this year I decided to take a more comprehensive approach. I chose the INKBIRD model for two reasons; I have other INKBIRD products that have proven very reliable and this unit was half the cost of what I had spent previously. Regardless of the brand, all of my previous failed units had either leaked from the screw-on top or the bottom sensor. Knowing how corrosive salt water is to products used in my pool and boat, I decided to use marine sealant to ensure that this unit remained watertight throughout this season. Since the batteries in the floating unit would need to be replaced periodically, the sealant I selected was NOT permanent. I also decided to place a desiccant packet inside the unit to absorb any moisture and show me the level of humidity (it turns pink) when I change the batteries. As shown in the pictures I have shared, I carefully removed the screw-on top and the rubber gasket. First, I added the new batteries and paired it with the base (if you miss this, you will have to break the seal later). Then I used the 3M Silicon (shown) to do the following; coat the (internal) bottom connector, placed the desiccant packet inside, coated the base of the threads (using a toothpick), replaced/seated the rubber gasket, coated the top of the rubber gasket, and then tightly screwed on the top. After letting it cure 24 hours, I placed it in the pool and so far, it is working perfectly. When the batteries eventually need replacement, I will simply break the seal, peel off the old silicon and repeat this process (I have done this before using the same 3M silicon for other marine products and connections). Until something more watertight comes along, I plan to use this proven method to keep the unit safe from leaks and corrosion. Given the sale price and my past satisfaction with INKBIRD products, I bought a second unit to use in our hot tub during the winter. An additional note for those of you that have a saltwater pool, make sure you use sacrificial zinc anodes to ensure your corrosion is minimized. You can buy anodes here on Amazon that can be placed in the skimmer baskets, it is cheap protection! In closing, I will try to remember to come back at the end of this season and update this review with the productโs longevity using this approach. UPDATE on 4/15/2025: After two years, the probe and receiver batteries ran down and lost connection in February. I just opened up my pool, used a knife to remove the silicon, and opened the unit - bone DRY! After replacing the batteries, everything is working like new and ready for the new season. I just applied a new coat of silicon and closed up the unit for another two years of service. Please check out the new pictures of the old silicon ring I removed, the dry packet inside, and the unit ready to go again! It's the best pool temp probe purchase I ever made by far!

Great! When it works
I have purchased two of these thermometers and have had one replaced by Inkbird for free. I use this in my personal hot tub (chlorine tub) and love it when it works. I leave the receiver in my kitchen and never have to walk outside to verify the temperature; especially valuable on a cold snowy Michigan day. The good: - Long bluetooth range. This reaches through at least three walls and up two stories in my house without issue. - It reads temperature within 1 degree Fahrenheit of my hot tub temp - the company has great customer service and stands by their products The not so good: - I have had two of these fail in two years. The first one I didnโt know I could warranty so I just bought a new one. The second one I recently warrantied by emailing [email protected], three weeks before the warranty expired. - moisture will get inside and cause the sensor to fail. I have tried all of the suggestions in the reviews to prevent this and am convinced (on my third unit) there isnโt a way around the water intrusion eventuality. When this happens, I saw the temperature reading begin to deviate from the actual water temp by 10+ degrees and eventually my first unit stopped reading temperatures all together and was getting warm to the touch. I donโt know of a better thermometer for the price, with a company that backs their product by a 1yr warranty. I am looking for a better solution, but at $20-25 per unit, my current plan is to replace this every year EDIT: after going through a few of these thermometers Iโve found adding a few layers of Teflon tape to the threads works very well in keeping out moisture.

Love this product!
While researching a new Pool Thermometer, I found the Inkbird listed on Amazon. It is a floating thermometer with a separate remote screen device which wirelessly mirrors the pool temperature. We placed the floating unit in the pool and the remote device in the house within wireless range. At a glance from within the house, I could see the exact pool water temperature. I purchased the unit in early May (2021) when we first opened our pool on Long Island (New York) so I could monitor the temp as the pool warmed up. It worked great! In mid July, the device stopped working. I replaced the batteries, but it did not come back on. I reached out to Inkbird and they offered suggestions to get the unit working again. Basically, suggested that we replace the batteries. Tried that again and did not come back on. Customer Service took care of me and shipped out a replacement warranty (one year) unit and I expect to receive it via UPS in a few days. I love it when a company has a great product and great customer service behind it. it makes a huge difference for us on line shopper. I am glad to share this experience with others who may be considering the unit. You will get value for the dollars spent and they back it up. JF-LI-NY

Great value for home hottub
The original version inkbird thermometer was just the right idea for my home hottub. It synchronised well to the internal monitor, and appeared to track the temp well. The drawback was that due to re-circulating jets, this probe unit was getting sloshed around quite a bit and dragged to the drain. Water seeped in, and misted up the screen. I dried it out in a rice bucket.. twice.. and tried various ways to avoid moisture build up without success. External monitor continued to work fine for while until the probe battery ran out. then it became difficult to resynch the two units. The customer service was great!. They sent me an improved more water proof version (see attached diagram.. there is notch at the bottom of the probe, and coating on the inside of the probe to make it more waterproof). I have had it working in the hottub for over 6 weeks now. So far no mistying of the probe screen, which I am very happy about. For extra measure I am keeping the probe tied to one edge of the hottub (avoiding the recirculating jets). This new version is working great so far. Edited: After 6 weeks, the new "better sealed" unit also turned cloudy, and started loosing connection to my receiver. I was very dissapointed as I was hopeful and had taken steps to keep it tied and upright in the hottub. I opened up the transmitter, put it in a sack of rice to dry it out (dehydrate) for several days, put new batteries in. It worked for 1 week only, and then stopped. I checked the batteries and they had discharged. I put new set of batteries again, and this time, they discharged in 2 days. So obviously, some defect is causing the rapid discharge of the battery now. I have to drop the stars. Now need to look for a better solution.

So far so good
I use the Inkbird IBS-P0IR Wireless Pool Thermometer for my in-ground spa. I purchased it two weeks ago so I can give a review for a short period of time. The Inkbird does not come with batteries or tether string. You will need 2 AA and 2 AAA batteries. I found a good place for the thermometer is the skimmer. This way itโs protected from the elements and easily accessible. One reviewer mentioned moisture droplets forming in the viewing lens. I only experienced this once when I left the thermometer loose in the spa overnight. Once I returned it to the skimmer the lens was clear. The remote unit works well. I store the remote in a drawer in the family room which is about 25 yards away. No problem with the reading from this distance. For my needs I find the humidity reading useless. If you go to the Inkbird web site there is no provision to register a product but the unit comes with a business sized card with a phone number should you have a problem. Be sure to print your Amazon receipt and keep it with the card. For the price and the quality I recommend this product. Made in China. UPDATE: VERY IMPORTANT to buyers. After 2 to 3 weeks I started getting strange readings on the remote unit. I removed the unit from the spa and notice the lens was badly fogged up. I removed the lid and it was full of water. I removed the batteries, dry it out and installed new batteries. Now there is no remote reading at all. I emailed INKBIRD and explained what had happened and told them what I did. After 36 hours I got a reply. They told me to use a hair dryer to dry it out and try again. I said to myself, "it fills with water. So what if it works". After some thought, I complied and after no improvement I email them back told them the results and requested a replacement. They emailed back and said their parts department would send a new unit and expect it in 5-6 days. It arrived today from their parts department, not Amazon. IMPORTANT: When installing the batteries I noticed the spa unit now uses 2 AAA batteries when the old one used 2 AA batteries. Also, the manual appears to look the same but the instructions are a bit different. The buttons in the spa unit have a different look. So. they have updated this device. When you order and receive this device be sure it uses AAA batteries for both units. If they don't, I would recommend returning it. UPDATE: After 2 weeks of use the updated unit works flawlessly. No moisture in the lens and no water in the unit. I now give this product 5 stars. UPDATE: I so hoped this product would work for me. It's exactly what I wanted. After 6 months the replacement unit with the new design has now failed. The LED on the pool unit has no reading and now has water inside. No temp reading on the remote unit. I now have to give it 1 star.

Works perfectly! EXACTLY what I was looking for.
[22DEC21] update: device apparently works about 6 months on a pair of AA batteries. I'm satisfied with that. Put new batteries in there, tossed it back in pool, and we are back in business. So far, loving this thing. I can see a little condensation inside the screen, was a bit worried about that, but hasn't presented any problems. No sign of rust or leaking inside. I had been looking for a pool therm. A long time ago I had one that hung on a handrail from a string, but that handrail is long gone. I've been using an IR gun to measure it, but I wanted something I could see from inside the house - RF! This has worked perfectly. I bought it two weeks ago and immediately added batteries and tossed it into the pool. The pool sensor floats all over the pool, but mostly hangs out in the spa overflow, where it is subject to continuous abuse. The monitor is sitting on my kitchen island, about 30' away, indoors. When you test any RF instrument, the first thing you worry about is range and interference (from other RF devices, and blockage by building materials etc). To this date, the connection has been uninterrupted. Pool sensor has a pliable silicone (?) gasket that keeps the water away from its innards. While it seems like a good design, that gasket is the only thing between you and a failed device. Mine has kept the water out fine, so I trust it. Just make sure to screw the thing together tightly or water will enter and you'll be :( Kitchen monitor has no backlight. Not a problem for me, but would have been nice. Monitor has various MAX and MIN functions that I don't care about. Resetting them requires button presses on the back, and referring to the manual, which I'm about to toss in the recycler, so I don't care about all that. Monitor has a fold-out stand that will allow it to stand up by itself. It also has the ubiquitous keyhole mounting hole for wall-mounting. Manual is super-small. Get out the magnifier, old folks (me). But it is complete, with more information than you need (if you're installing multiple sensors in the same pool, god help you). I got mine up and working in 2 minutes, no problem. The manual diction was pretty good - a little chinglish, but far better than many other devices of this nature. No complaints there. * One surprising feature: it appears that the floating pool sensor is actually a receiver as well. I can change the temperature units on the kitchen monitor from F to C and the pool sensor changes as well. I'd guess that when the units is changed on the kitchen display, it's queue'd in a transmit buffer. Immediately after the pool sensor sends its temperature, it briefly listens for a response from the kitchen monitor. When the kitchen monitor receives its message, it responds with any changes and they are registered in the pool sensor. Then the pool sensor goes back to low power mode. I'm guessing transmit frequency is every 10 seconds.
