Good ESP32-CAM kit...
Works as expected. The camera's image quality is not the best, but worth the price paid. The FTDI was fine. Connect the ESP32-CAM's digital pin 0 (labeled IO0 on the board, two pins away from 3.3V) to ground to put the board into programming mode. FTDI's VCC to ESP's 5v, GND to GND, RX to UOT, TX to UOR. After flashing, remove the digital pin 0 -> ground and reset.

Poor video quality

The included USB serial adapter did not work with the esp32 cam under Windows 10
The included USB serial adapter would not program the dev board under windows 10. As the description clearly states it has a fake FTDI ft232rl IC. I assumed that even with a fake IC, it would still work to program the dev board. Well, it does not play nicely with the Windows 10 FTDI driver. This led to a lot of frustration that cumulated in purchasing an Adafruit USB serial adapter with a guaranteed genuine ft232rl IC. That solved the problem and the device now programs without any problems. So if you do purchase this kit, make sure you have a USB serial adapter with a genuine ft232rl for programming it. The adapter that comes with it is useless. The esp32-cam dev board itself appears to work perfectly.

Camera problems lots of ppl complaining
Updated review: Stick to the AIthinker board. The example code in arduino IDE was written for them. I tried debugging this board for hours. Everything works except the entire reason a person would order this board... camera function. Tried known good cams used on authentic AI thinker boards. Manifests as cam error, but seems to be a flash error. Still don't know fix. Just get the AI board: "[E][camera.c:1344] esp_camera_fb_get(): Failed to get the frame on time! Camera capture failed"

Connector Issues
You'll have a hard time finding a connector / cable to attach to this FTDI board. I've tried USB mini, micro, C and B and none of those fit. Good Luck

No don't.
The Y-05 is useless. Just buy the camera and DSD TECH SH-U09C5 USB to TTL or some other combo. However, the ESP32-Cam seems to work well so, Ai Thinker (under ESP Arduion board) is the board to use.

Old Style USB Connector
The unit has a mini-USB connector, but its the "old" pre-cellphone style. It's a thick mini and a normal cellphone mini USB will not work. Gotta wonder how many years this thing has been sitting in inventory.
