I needed a laser that makes straight lines for table top gaming. So not for what this is traditionally used for.There are bespoke laser pointers that do just that and made for the hobby but those cost just as much as much if not more than this because of the hobby tax.For this purpose this device works admirably but worse than the bespoke pointers because its much bulkier. For a hobby laser this gets three stars but I give it 5 because its multi purpose.In addition to the laser it has a 6" ruler and a tape measure which is extremely useful in the hobby. Also I can't tell you how many random times I needed a straight edge and this bailed me out from having to run downstairs as I keep this on my desk.But it is also has uses outside of tabletop gaming. I got some vinyl album wall mounts as I wanted to display a 4x3 grid of records on my wall. The laser made lining up the records an absolute breeze and nothing was crooked. Dare I say I think this may be its intended use.
