Does this have the Prop 65 label on it? The one that says the materials have been known to cause cancer in the state of california?

Yes, it has the prop 65 label on it, but no information as to what chemicals or the amount. I returned mine because the return process is painless and there are other similar stands out there at similar price points without these chemicals.

What is the diameter of the base?

Just under 6.5 inches. It has a heavy base and very stable to hold any microphone.

Does one have to add weight plates to preven heavey mic toppling over? If so, what is the diameter of the shaft?

No extra weight needed. I have two Samson MD5 stands and mounted with an EV RE-20 microphone and shock mount. The base is heavy enough to easily support this combo. Shaft diameter is about 1/2" threaded metal.
