This is a highly effective tool for getting sleep back on track. Better sleep lowers other health risks, too.
The human body naturally produces Melatonin as part of the processes leading to sleep. An area of the brain called the superchiasmatic nucleus detects falling light levels, leading to an increase of Melatonin in the brain, and sleepiness. This can be thrown off through the use of artificial lights, by shift work, jet lag, staying up later on weekends, etc. For those who are having regular difficulty falling asleep, lowering the lights an hour before bedtime may help to raise Melatonin enough to overcome that problem. At other times, it might be helpful to take a Melatonin supplement like this one. As always, it is important to communicate with your physician. It is also possible to check for interactions using apps like epocrates. I have never come across interactions with Melatonin. Researchers keep working, though, so what is true today could be a little different tomorrow. Currently, Melatonin is being investigated as potentially helpful across a wide variety of disorders, may of which are associated with age. Those who are interested might wish to look that up. A very conservative starting place is the NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Disorders. That website will not jump ahead on anything too quickly, so if you are interested in the very latest developments then keep going through the scientific literature. What to expect with Melatonin: This dose of 3 mg is convenient as it is going to work quite well for most people These are solid tablets. If you have never taken Melatonin before, then you could use a pill splitter to try out a 1.5 mg dose or so, and see how that goes. Most people will go on to the 3 mg dose. However, there are some people who may find that they do not seem to clear the Melatonin easily, and then using this may leave them sleepy in the morning. That is not the usual response; those who have morning drowsiness are few and far between. If it happens to you, and you have allowed for a good long sleep ("normal" is 8 or 9 hours per night), then do cut back or stop use and figure out why it is affecting you in that way, because that should not be the case. If you tried to get away with a short sleep, well, you are part of the human race so for your own better health it's best to figure out how you can get those 8 or 9 hours. Many people who have told me that they have too much to do so that is impossible, find that they function so much better that once they are getting enough sleep regularly, they are still able to get everything done. If you are allowing those 8 - 9 hours to sleep and still find that Melatonin leaves you groggy in the morning, then it may take the help of medical professionals to figure out if there is some interaction, genetic anomaly, or... ? Using Melatonin is by far much safer than taking pharmaceutical sleep medicines. There is no comparison! For example, the genetic zolpidem that is sold under Am_bien and other names has been found to substantially raise the risk of multiple cancers (risks begin to increase after only 3 doses), it only adds about 20 minutes of sleep, and it interferes with memory so what actually happens is that patients do not remember the sleeplessness, and think that it works better than it does. The memory problems often extend to other things, too. An internet search of the generic name already given here will take you to that research; add the word "cancer" if you want to know more about that unfortunate effect from pharmaceutical sleep medication. It should be included in the inserts that patients receive; sadly, it is not! Melatonin is not a pharmaceutical; it is what your body produces in order to sleep, so it is great that we can have it on hand to boost the levels when that is needed. Finally, down to the particulars of this brand. I've tried it, and find that it is a good quality product. It arrives with a clear seal over the cap that comes off with no difficulty (just twist the cap and it will go). Do watch for that safety seal, though. So far, mine have also arrived with an inner removable flat seal and some cotton. It does take Melatonin a while to work. It will vary depending on whether your stomach is empty, etc., and with use you'll learn how much leeway to allow. I find that I should take it about 45 - 60 minutes before I would like to sleep. Then it will provide me with a "sleep window" of about an hour during which I can fall asleep. If I get busy and work past it, then I can miss that window. I tend to get busy, so it is helpful to me to set a timer or a reminder on my phone to go to bed. I've had this on subscription for a while; that has allowed for extra savings. I am needing to take this less and less often, though, so when I realized that I can change my subscription I thought that I might provide this information in case it will be helpful to someone else. Take care, and sweet dreams!

Amazing Must Have
This melatonin works really well for me. The 3mg were too low a dose for me, so I started taking 2 tablets (6mg) and that really did the trick. It helps ensure that I start feeling sleepy around 9-9:30 pm and that I can fall asleep easily by 10:30 and stay asleep throughout the night. I will def re-order.

Great! Dilute 10 times in water for recommended low dose 300 mcg melatonin. . USP ensures purity.
the USP on the label insures that the pills are tested independently and contain exactly the amount on the label with no impurities. You can get the recommended 300 mcg (microgram not milligarm)dose by diluting a pill 10 times in water to provide 10 doses for each pill. The 120 pills in this bottle will provide 1200 doses or over 3 years of use (assuming you use this every night) and the cost will be less than one cent per dose. The recommended dosage of melatonin based on medical studies is only 300 mcg which is 1/10 of the amount in each of these pills which is 3 mg or 3000 mcg or 10 times the recommended dose. The smaller dose is more effective than larger doses. Its virtually impossible to find pills with that small 300 mcg dose, and if you do they are very expensive. But the solution is simple. Dilute 1 pill 10 times in water. For example, take a 500 liter (1/2 quart) bottle fill it with water put in 1 pill, shake it up, and then using a small measuring cup take 50 ml or 1/10 of the bottle per dose. You will have enough for 10 nights. Melatonin dissolves in water so this works well. When the pill dissolves there is a residue of the filler powder (probably starch) that falls to and remains in the bottom of the bottle. I carefully pour the liquid with the white powder in the bottom into another bottle to leave the residue on the bottom of the original bottle in order to have a totally clear liquid. If you use 1 pill in a half quart (500 ml bottle) then one dose will be 50 ml. You can buy a small measuring cup and mark 50 ml with a magic marker, to measure out that amount. The liquid dose at this dilution works great and takes about 20 or so minutes to kick in. Obviously you can take a larger amount than 50 mil if you want a larger dose, but because this is now a liquid And you can use a larger or smaller amount of water to dilute one pill 10 to 1, if you would prefer. This works great for less than a penny per dose. and the USP label insures it has been tested and contains the stated amount of melatonin with no contaminants.

So far so good . *updated
Tried melatonin a few times before, had trouble with really bad dreams, tossed the stuff out. Thought I would give it one more try, this time at a lower dose, ordered NatureMade 3 mg . Worked wonderfully last night, went to bed early, slept 7 hours straight, had a vivid dream, only this time it was one I would like to have again. LOL. Not groggy at all this AM. I'll take it again tonight and see how it goes . Am going to try the 4 milligrams extended-release melatonin ( NatureMade ) , would like it to last a little longer before waking up . Have been using Costco sleep aid, Doxy Succanate , good product, but am out of it when get out of bed, only lasts 4-5 hours , some nights it just doesn't work. Can order it at Amazon if you want to give it a try , it may work well for you . UPDATE: This NatureMade 3mg does put me to sleep , lasts maybe 51/2 hours , 6 hours max , tried extended release 4mg , same thing . Last night I woke up at about 330 AM , took second 3 mg , slept until 9 AM . No more groggy this morning than I usually am . I'm old ( er ) now , nothing works like it used to .

I got 3 mg in error. Wanted 5mg. But, I found that two of these made me sleep better than just 5mg.

Deeeeep sleeps
I started taking these to help get my sleep schedule back on track and theyโve been working perfectly. The 3mg dose is just rightโit helps me fall asleep naturally without feeling groggy or "out of it" the next morning. Since they are drug-free and from a brand I trust, I feel much better about taking them regularly compared to other options. The bottle comes with a good amount of tablets for the price, making it a great value. If you're looking for a reliable way to catch some better rest, these are definitely worth it.

Good product
Very nice product. It is very effective. Start with half tablet first, because excess of melatonin can case weired nightmares, only a quarter of tablet will work for most of the peoples who are taking melatonin for the first time. In first few weeks of usage a little lathargyness can be felt in the morning , but again this is very common for all kind of melatonin supplements & will disappear with time. I suggest taking it at least one hour before bed time.
