Nice Attache
I bought this to replace a Samsonite briefcase I bought about 23 years ago that looked very similar. This one is a little deeper than the one I had before and I think I like the extra room. They sure don't make things the way they used to. This one is well made but they used to be REALLY well made. I'm sure I'm not going to get 23 years out of this one. One thing I don't care for is the extra little compartments inside are almost useless in this one. Plenty of room for paperwork and such, but if you want a place to keep a few pens, clips, keys and things, there really isn't a good place for them. I feel like I need to get a little pencil box like the kids had in school too keep the small things in. Plenty of room for folders in the top compartment so you can get to them quickly and I do like the panel that lays across the bottom part (between top and bottom when you have it open) so you have some privacy when it's open. That's a nice touch, but when you want to look or get at anything in the bottom part, there isn't a latch to keep it up and it's a little difficult to keep it up while your searching for something. Yep...a latch would be good. The combination lock on this one is a little stiff and I thought it would get better after using it a few times but so far it hasn't. For the money it's probably a good deal and it looks nice. I pretty much bought it over others based on the Samsonite name, but next time I will look around a little bit more and maybe try a different brant.

A little large, but a great case!
I had been looking to switch to a briefcase and get rid of my old book sack laptop bag. I was a little skeptical of this case because of it's size. I didn't want to look like I was carrying around Nuclear Launch codes in my case, but this case is perfect. It is able to handle a leather notepad case and folders in the lid compartment, and my 17" Workstation Laptop (with extended battery) fits well in the bottom with the a full size thumb ball mouse and charger. Sadly the pen compartment doesn't really fit any pens that most people use. I think it might fit a BIC pin with no top. I was able to press in Pilot G-2 pens and snap it shut, but it is really hard to open/close the lid, because its such a tight fit. I like the little work space area in it. I can work on it, but I can also place books, notebooks, etc to store on trips. Overall a really good buy!

Know what your needs are...
First get out a ruler and measure 6 inches. That's how deep the Focus is. If you are looking for a compact briefcase, this isn't it. However, if you need space, carry items that won't fit in 4" cases or always find yourself expanding your brief, then this will change you life! It's a weighty case and I wouldn't want to walk miles carrying it, but for short commutes or in places where you'll face rough conditions, this is what you want. Yes, the pen and 3.5" disk compartments are dated, very dated. But, otherwise, the textured sides look quite modern and the interior follows course. If you write from a car/truck or in odd places, the detachable hardback divider becomes your new best friend. Any thicker and this would look like a small suitcase. Any heavier and loaded with a laptop it would get burdensome. However, I find that the Focus walks up to the line without crossing it. It fits the needs of a professional who is hard on his or her gear, finds him or herself in rugged situations, or wants the extra protection a hard plastic Samsonite provides; all while keeping a stylish, if not modern, appearance.

Not Like the Old One, But Still OK
I agree with most of the points in the previous review entitled "Well, that's a shame", but I think 2 stars is just too low. Yes, the pen holder is worthless, since 90% of my pens are too fat to fit in the non-removable liner slots. I found that business cards do indeed fit well in the other plastic tray. The lock is harder to use, but I don't use it very often. I miss the old divider, which was more flexible and had a handy zippered pouch built-in which is no longer in this model. This new case certainly is not as nice or as flexible as the similar one I bought around 20 years ago (and only recently broke). But it is still a good briefcase for the money, larger than most, still reasonably sturdy, and still has the feature that it won't open if it's upside-down. If this one lasts half as long as my first one, I'll be happy.

Great, Very Durable Case
I use this case all of the time to carry my laptop, several books and other items. It's extremely well built and solid. It's got a nice look to it as well... it kind of looks high-tech, at least as much as an attache can look. My father liked it so much he got one as well. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a durable case. It also has what I would call a table feature built in. There's a flap that lays flat at mid height when the case is open that you can use to put your laptop or documents on, to work off of. It's a really neat idea especially if you ever need to work right out of a chair without a table. It can also be removed if you don't like the small amount of space that it takes up. Definitely a nice case though!

If only I could personally approve all product designs........
Purchased. I placed some stuff into it, including some phone charging stuff I carry around everywhere. I didnt notice the phone charging cable (small) was overhanging the edge. Dropped the lid down. A small piece of plastic inside the right latch broke. Cant close or lock the right side. I will never understand why manufacturers use plastic on any key or critical high-impact and/or high-use portions of their products. If you want to make it out of plastics to save costs, then fine, but at least make the high impact or high use portion out of metal.

Sturdy hard plastic exterior. Very roomy. Combination lock. Reputable maker. 10 year warranty.
I recommend Samsonite Focus III 6" Hardside Attache because : (1) Shipped and sold by Amazon at a very competitive price (2) Maker Samsonite has a good reputation for durability. I am still using a Samsonite suitcase bought 20 years ago. (3) Exterior is made of hard black ABS (plastic) with grainy surface. (4) Locks are designed to prevent accidental opening. (5) 5 inches thick. Roomy for a 17 inch laptop, AC adapter, papers etc. Inside has pockets with straps and one hard full size separator. (6) The frame is made of light weight glass fiber reinforced polyamide. (7) 3-digit combination dial lock. No keys to lose. (8) 10 year warranty to first purchaser. Awesome!
I love this briefcase. My last briefcase was a tad too shallow for my needs. I found this was one of the only cases that was deeper. The added workspace flap thing is genius. If you don't like it, or are looking for just a bit more space, it can be removed. The big center storage piece on the case when open has a plastic form meant for pens... It's a total waste of space. My pens didn't fit inside there, so I just ripped it out and use it as a general storage compartment. Other than this thing, the only other drawback is the size of this case. Some of my friends tell me that I am carrying a "suitcase". You get used to it. ;) I'm a computer programmer, and carry this case everyday to work. Laptop, textbooks, notebooks, keys, DVDs, and a few file folders. :) Enjoy.

Great design. Highly functional
This is a very nice briefcase with a lot of space. It has a good design and looks quite sturdy. I particularly like the "double compartment". There is a separator. Great for keep personal or confidential items out of sight when you open your briefcase near other people. I like the design very much. I give this product a very high rating.
