This is a great, simple tool for measuring paint thickness and finding previous body repairs. Is able to measure up to 0.015" of paint thickness. I performs pre-purchase inspections classic cars on a part-time basis and this tool helps find previous bodywork and gives my customers data on the amount of paint or filler on a vehicle. I highly recommend using one prior to buying a classic car!

For checking powder coatings it works to my expectations. I would recommend this product to anyone in the powdercoating business.

It's a piece of plastic with a magnet and spring inside and a sticker with some measurements on it. Doesn't feel very accurate for its intended use and fairly overpriced.

its ok for a quick test, as an inspector I use it for a pre-lim test but back it up with a digital to take a photograph for a report

Excellent product. Very durable I inspect 100's of vehicles a month and this is much better then the cheaper plastic ended ones that come apart .

Use to understand DFT of sprayed coatings on structural steel exposed to the elements [solar parking canopies] The magnet and spring gauge are an ingenious combination to gauge the coating thickness over ferrous substrates.
