Mayhew Tools 24003 Center Punch, 5/16" - 8mm x 6", Black Oxide Finish

Used on steel and seen to be very durable. I had previously bought their chisel set and bought these because the chisels were good. I would recommend these.

Good quality product

Had these on hand "just in case" and this week I needed them. Broke off a stud in a threaded hole and decided the only way to fix it was drill out the stud. I used a punch to make a point in the broken stud end so a drill would not wander when I began drilling. The drill didn't dig in very well (not the punch's fault, but the type of steel) so I used a smaller punch and a smaller drill to start a pilot hole. After drilling almost all the way through, I went back to the larger drill and it worked. The punches did their job - the drill never walked. Even though the steel stud was pretty strong, the punch made a significant impression, and it looks like no damage was done to the punch itself. This is one of those tools you only use occasionally, but when you need a punch, you need it. Beware of using any other device as a punch if it isn't hardened steel - particularly when marking metal - they can shatter and cause injury or blindness. Wear safety glasses, and use hardened metal punches like these. So far, I'm completely satisfied with these.

Great as described

Very good quality, very impressed with Mayhew USA tools. Been caught out with their Taiwan offerings (cheaper, but not as good IMO). Used on stainless and mild steel, and no problems. Pouch is a little flimsy, but that the tools are top notch
